Points sytem needs a redo
While the old system was widely misused and abused...it still had it's postives. The new system makes it next to impossible to get any points anymore. The ones that do come are far and few. While I think the new system was a great idea, now that its in place, its widely underused, and pretty much just sux (sorry BFG). I can thumbs up great advice all day long, and its really doesn't give any kind of reward for my thumbs up, unless a user that still has all the points from the old system thumbs up your response or posting. Its practically impossible to reward one for a postive contribution.
Human brains like a reward system that actually rewards them for putting in the time and effort that goes toward helping others or contribution to the site. We can sit here and say that points don't matter all day long, but to me its pretty obvious that they do by the lack of responses to noobie questions anymore. Why would we want to try and help very much if there's nothing in it for us...most of these questions are ones that have been asked time and time again, and there gonna continue to be asked forever. Yet members aren't answering like they use to be answered. I notice if my points move, but I definetly don't notice if my one stray response or comment gets a "thumbs up" I think the new system hinders the site, rather than helps the site.
In my opinion a medium between the old and the new needs to be put into place.

The main difference between the new and old system is, not every vote counts now, withn the new system. You need 50pts yourself to actually reward a user 1 karma point.
It's much harder to receive upvotes for comments like "lol" and "no homo", because 50+ users (I like to think) actually know what kind of comment is karma worthy.
With the old system, it was common for certain users to gain 100pts in a few days for being cute, funny, or popular.
NastyNateI totally agree the old system was widely adused...I was apart of that myself, but the new system seems to restrict a good majority of users that have been on here a while from awarding any type of points whatsoever. I see fairly active and knowledgable members on here with less than 50 points that have been on here 3 monthes or more...and I'm not just talking about myself, my new account is only a couple monthes old, and I'm slowly climbing towards the 50 mark...but others on here seem like theyre at a standstill and yet I see them helping others all the time. It just seems to restrictive to me, seems like the only ones that are really able to participate in the new system are the ones that rolled over points from the old system.
Think of it like politics...you have to have friends in high ranking positions, or pitch a campaign that they'll buy into
I've gotten points and my karma didn't go up, that must be cause I didn't respond. I didn't know thats how it worked. I give redundant advice all the time, whether here or at the gym. Some guys ball wash for points and that's just not my gig. That's prolly why I don't have a ton of points after nearly a year here. Thing is I woukdnt be juiced to the gills, if it weren't for this site so oh well I win and as a added bonus I've made some awsome friends here, and though I don't know them in person I feel as though I do.
No points even though there's a thumb up must be someone under 50 and were not talking age
Youv gotten a thumbs up and didn't recieve any actual karma points because the person that gives you a thumbs up has to be +50 karma for it to count. I don't like it either, and it pisses me off because if its not fare to help someone and they cant reward you because their karma is too low.
Damn, they have to be above 50. Wow I haven't even been above 50 for all that long. +1 my brotha,
Yes. At 50 we expect you to know what is a good advice and what is bs. After all, you were awarded 50 kudos from your fellow members.
Thanks for the +1, I havn't had one of those in a while. I still try to hand out points by the old system. If its helpful, cool, or funny, then the person is getting +1ned and I try to hand more points out since the system is harder to get points now. I don't do the whole lets point eachother for retarded dirty comments deal. Its fun to read but I don't think people should go from +5 to +305 karma in their first 2 months for that shit. It got bad their for a while.
True dat true dat brotha, a lot of those guys didn't last too long around here so they got there's.
This is what they are trying to avoid. Was that comment really something that should have been pointed? Use your ability to award Karma wisely, or it doesn't mean anything.
Most of the time the new guys you are helping don't even know how points/karma works. I'm not looking at people's status when trying to help just try to help whoever you can just like everyone helped us when we were new. The way it was it was easily abused, you'd have a bunch of new and or fake accounts pointing each other back and forth into the stratosphere for saying "no homo" and shit, til you have someone here 1 month with a shit load of karma who never really did anything, so that there comments were now looked at differently. I have had others who could, point me when helping a new guy, so it sorta can still work, but the new people and some vets, have to to start by reading the rules.
It still could be abused, take two people that are either married or just buddies at the gym, and they decide to rep each other for bs. I dunno, all in all I don't pay that close of attention to it. There's always going to be someone bucking the system. And in no way am I accusing anyone of doing so, reading the rules was something I did about a year ago a.d maybe I need to take another look, if that's what your getting at there.
Not at all, you posted after I posted that. I'm just saying in general, I see people new and old saying things they shouldn't or posting where they shouldn't bla bla bla.... In general people should know what they can and can't do and understand why. As far as abuse I think the mods can see that, if it happens regularly.
The mods are pretty overworked for they're voluntary time. My pics are disabled for whatever reason and I notified bfg about it and haven't been able to resolve it so I get no avatar no ebc and no recognition cause unless its people that no me well they don't recognize the bald grey round head. I've never repped eatbig b4and have watched him mature though his first cycle etc. I don't feel one bit bad for repping him bro. Ive read enough of his posts and never had a lot of diallect with him so I seized the opportunity to rep him. I believe I've read plenty from you also and watched you mature in knowledge too. That's what this site is about.
Try using firefox or chrome browsers.
I gotter fingered out bfg. Just changed my browser and scwaa fwaaa. In like flinn.
I for one could give a rats ass about points.I really just got involved with this site because of the sources. If I end up helping some noob because he really he does not want to put in the work to study and learn.Or some schmuck doesn't want to read the reviews on gear bought from a source. Then so be it.Bar non truth be told it will come down to diet and training anyway and half these kids wont listen. So who really cares how many points we have.I know my arms are huge and my c*ck is stiff what else is there?
Totaly agree with both of you!....wait what?
sgtstedankoHuman ego, likes rewards. Not the brain... Who cares about points, brother Nate. Just share you wealth of knowledge. I think some members aren't answering like they used to, because they've already answered the same damn questions a million times.
NastyNateBro, none of us would even be one here if we weren't into feeding our egos in the first place. I don't stick needles in my ass, follow strict ass diets, and try to lift unbelievable amounts of weight for no reason at all.
sgtstedankoHonestly I don't really care. I'm here for different reasons I guess. I know who I am, as a man. W/or w/out eroids, I'm still that man. Every morning I wake up, anyway. I don't give a shit if i've got 400 points in here, or not. It hasn't changed my life. As long as I don't see that little red box, & can get quality gear, advice, & experiences, etc. I'm happy. I'll give you a point, just for communication, even though I disagree. Have a good one, brother.
NastyNateJust putting in my two cents....I feel like the new system hinders the site rather than help it as a whole. The old system enouraged more overall partiipation and contributions....I'd be curious what the numbers were in a month span on the new system and the old system...i bet overall post, replies, pic, etc...have all went down statistically
