+ 12 Being more welcoming

ad

Just noticed a trend recently that I'd like to get some discussion going on. Are we becoming a little unwelcoming and dare I even say hostile towards new members recently?

Fact - there has been an abundance of stupid cycles particularly from new members, which immediately gets people's backs up. Doesn't mean everyone that joins is in the same category though. Yes, I know all the "have you read the rules" stuff gets tiresome. Buts that's reality. Some of you guys are coming across as unfriendly, not something I think we as a community should portray ourselves as. Some of the responses I see are becoming quite obnoxious.

Just flick through the regular pages, straight off the bat there are members making smart ass comments like "do you even lift" etc. there's also a habit of ganging up on those deemed to be in the wrong. Surely we can communicate better than that as adults?

I've seen a lot of people come and go in my time here. Think of just the last few months, we've got some great new members with good knowledge and new ideas. Do we want to scare them off? In truth, some will have been. I want new ideas, I want to learn too. Sure sone new members won't be great additions, sone if the ones we already have aren't either!

Let's try and be a little more welcoming, it's in all of our interests.

It's great timing I think that you made this post. I have found myself becoming more and more intolerant of the new people and the ridiculous posts. I'm sure it's a combination of trolls, ignorant, stubborn, and simply stupid people. The only one that should be tolerated of these are being the ignorant. Ignorant meaning they simple don't know. These guys get hammered with the same thing "Do some research". We were all new at this once and everyone does things differently but part of researching is asking questions. This is where I see the bashing happening most and have been part of it at one time or another. It is because we get sick of the trolls, the stubborn, and the stupid people. I believe this is where the good ones fall through the cracks or get chased off. A couple of us had entered a post of a youngster that obviously had done a significant amount of researched. He had some unorthodox perspectives. He also had some serious embellishments in his workout routines. This was the focus and I fell into the harassing of this kid. Now the kid took it well but refused to admit his embellishments so we didn't let up. I had noticed the next day that he had a similar post but had deleted the entire post from the day before. I went back to it later and it was gone too. While backing up through my browser I realized I had captured this entire post from the day before. So what did I do? I copied and pasted it and posted a new topic to continue the fun I had had from the day before. The others from the night before noticed it and it started back up. Hell even a mod jumped in to take a couple shots. After having a laugh I started thinking about it and it made me feel shitty. I realized I had become a bully. I fucking hate bullies and had become what I hate the most. I deleted that post and went to another post of this kid welcomed him to eroids. I have talked to him via pm. He had asked about bridging and I advised him to not do this (there was much more to this pm but that's the gist of it). He's was receptive to the advise and it was refreshing to talk to a younger member that was open to solid advice. The whole point of this rant and sharing this experience is that I agree and though this is not my nature bashing and bullying. It's easy to fall into. Especially in groups. I don't think these other guys are any different. They're good guys but fell into this group attack. I mentioned how I was feeling in my post and they agreed and I quickly deleted it and tried to make amends. We need to be conscious of our behavior and remember that if we don't have something to contribute then it's best to say nothing at all. This is to all of eroids I am sorry for the way I behaved to this particular newb and will be more conscious in the way I treat others especially when they're legitimately seek advice.......

i saw one time when a guy actually posted a pic of his drivers license because everyone thought he was 19 and they were relentless with trying to run him off the site. not too smart but it turned out he was really in his 40s. it seems like one guy says something sarcastic or whatever and then it just snowballs from there, especially if a high ranking member gives someone shit about something. then everyone else feels justified in piling on.

I just wanted to say, the reason I like this place so much is I have found it very welcoming. I have tried several other similar pages in the past few years, this one is by far the best for many reasons. The majority of the attitudes I see around here are lovely. Mind you I do not really interact with new members, but the regulars, MODS, and vets around here are very pleasant. I could write a novel about why the other sites suck and this one's great but I just wanted to point of some positives. Smile

Carlos is back, Noid is carrying his red bar again. good stuff fellas, I agree Cat, I've seen an uprising in crazy cycle information given out in the si boards. I almost passed on another young gun getting carried away with his dosing and compounds, turned out he was open minded and receptive and was just regurgitating info he was given elsewhere.

Roid Noid's picture

I just call it how I see it.

tonytulo's picture

Awesome to see you back noid.

Roid Noid's picture

well just as long as you dont get yourself into trouble! Smile

tonytulo's picture

Catalyst's picture

Good to see you back in a mod tag Noid.

VIKING EVOLUTION's picture

Aaaah ... Humbled again................ thank you bro Smile

Catalyst's picture

Anything I can do to help let me know V.

kodiakGRRL's picture

sometimes, you take my words away and all I can do is simply nod my head and say "yes, Carlos" because while he may not truly know it, he is one of the most amazing and insightful people that I have the good fortune of calling a true friend.

Catalyst's picture

Glad you're back mate.

Pale's picture

Yes, welcome back brother. I have wondered over the last few months how you have been doing..

PIN_CUSHION's picture

fusebox's picture

Ok I've been here 3 months. And I can tell you from being on Here every day that there are a few people that if I see them comment or start a post I steer clear no matter what. Then there are a few people that if they post some thing or comment I will go read it no matter if it relates to anything I'm interested in. I also haven't posted much because I don't like to stir the pot so to speak. I'd rather lurk and maybe throw something out there if I have a funny one liner. But I always feel like a thread killer. Seems like anytime I post something that persons thread dies. Not sure if it's because I'm a noob or what. Just my.02 I think I'll go back to lurking in the shadows now

fusebox's picture

Pretty much scared to death of half the people on here. But after being on here as much as I have you can tell who can help without being above the situation so to speak. A wise man once said don't argue with stupid people, they will just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. I didn't want to be that person

PIN_CUSHION's picture

Well way to go this thread was pretty interesting, lol

fusebox's picture

And another one bites the dust

PIN_CUSHION's picture

haha, you really are a thread killer. I'm like you though you learn who to steer clear of to avoid conflict, and you learn who to creep to gain knowledge.

Dickkhead's picture

Bro, I agree with you, BUT . . .

When new members post the equivalent of I'm gonna do it anyways, no matter what you guys say or do well the guy is gonna get a reaction from me that is somewhat less than welcoming.

If he then gives me more lip when I try to explain that 1,000 mg of Tren for your first cycle is not advised . . . well then my response is probably gonna be in a somewhat annoyed tone.

If he then tells me to fuck off well then I'm probably gonna agree with the little bastard and tell him to do the same as well - with probably more highfalutin vocabulary.

Every situation is different and I know that you know that the scenario I just described happens too often.

Catalyst's picture

In those scenarios I back you all the way mate. If they're a tool, let 'em have it.

aneas's picture

As much as I agree with everything said, it feels like there is a variant of this thread created every couple months making the same suggestions...that people be more friendly, lay off on the dog piling, etc... What ever changes though?

PIN_CUSHION's picture

Try and become more involved. You've been here 2 years with only 30 comments. It's doesn't seem like you've invested enough time. Also stats are very important here especially when in open forum, heads up in case you decide to post and ask questions about AAS.

aneas's picture

Yep, and in those two years I've visited the forum almost daily. Fear of being attacked for saying something unpopular is the main reason I don't post. You only need to say the wrong thing to a single high karma member and boom, you've got a shit storm, you're in the negatives for karma, and you've become a pariah. In fact, I'd probably better log out now before it happens to me in this thread lol! This thread just spoke to me so I had to agree and thumbs up.

Catalyst's picture

And that's exactly what I don't want to see, people feeling what you've just expressed. Disagreeing is one thing, but nobody should feel as though they shouldn't post.

I can't fix it mate, but I can make everyone aware.

PIN_CUSHION's picture

Potential bashing maybe. Negatives for karma? not so much. You have to be straight up trolling or give advice detrimental to someones health to get negs.

PIN_CUSHION's picture

I try to be as respectful and helpful as I can. I try to avoid flaming, because believe it or not it's very intimidating making your first post and takes a lot of courage, I know because that's the way I felt. It's easy to jump on the bashing bandwagon, but not so easy to have the patience to answer the same questions day in and day out. If some one is asking questions that clearly show their lack of knowledge then it is our responsibility to point them in the right direction and make sure they have a full understanding before they begin any cycle, not resort to flaming them. On the other hand if someone shows disrespect right off the bat then I will have no part in trying to help, they clearly have the "I know all" attitude and can simply figure it out on their own.

Then there are straight up trolls, but they are easy to sniff out, in that case flame away, lol.

and another thing when I first joined I didn't know to read the rules, so everyone deserves a chance to make it right.

Catalyst's picture

Agree with everything you're saying here Pin. It's guys like you I don't want to see scared away. You've been a great addition helping people out here, I don't want Pin mk2 leaving after 5 minutes because the bully brigade all want to pile in on the bashing bandwagon.

We were all new once and we all made mistakes.

PIN_CUSHION's picture

I appreciate the kind words. As long as there is structure from the ground up things will run smooth. It's a trickle down effect. BFG-MODS-EXP/ADV- everyone one else. I just try to follow the standards you guys have set.

WINNING's picture

This is true, I was never looked down upon when i first started! Did I get my ass chewed by Roid Noid and almost quit eroids yes! Have I made messed up cycles that have been corrected by senior members before, Yes. We all make mistakes and deserve ass chewing at times. However, the problem lies when for no apparent reason a senior member lashes out to a noob. It will come out in the wash eventually and whom ever is made for eroids will stand and whom ever isn't will fall. No one here owns this cite, with the exception of bfg of course. No one is above the law, we all can get hammered at any time. Give respect and show love people, this is the internet but......we're also dealing with people lives, so tuff love when needed and If I can help out any, just holla.

Catalyst's picture

Exactly. Often though it's not even experienced members, it's guys that in the grand scheme of things are still fairly new to AAS / eroids. I don't like watching people being belittled or bullied.

WINNING's picture

I'm with you on this, great post btw. +2
