Joint pain, test only cycle

ad

So I am full blow in my cycle of test only. I haven’t been on in a while and maybe age or something else has more to do with it, but the elbows are inflamed mostly with extension exercises. Should I just stay away from them or does anyone have any input.

Makwa's picture

the problem with chronic inflammation is that you really can't get rid of it without rest, or some good meds. Every time that joint moves it gets irritated and inflamed. Now put it under load and move it and it gets even more irritated. Let's assume this isn't estro related to creaky joints but just normal joint inflammation from the stress of lifting weights. I have had my fair share of joint pain throughout the years. When it would get to bad, I would have to run some prednisolone for a week or so and not do any lifting. Sucks, not lifting but it worked and I could go back to 100% intensity without any pain. The prednisolone knocks out the inflammation so the joint isn't being continually irritated and allows it to heal.

My most recent round I had bicep tendonitis for nearly 6 months. It really put a damper on training. I could hardly do anything. Tried all the natural remedies, omegas, joint supps all that type of crap that is supposed to be good for joints. Nothing worked. Was talking with a nurse we were on a cycle ride with and she mentioned to try some meloxicam. Got some from my doc and within 3 days my joints were completely pain free. Miracle stuff. I also have some arthritis and it knocks that out to. Now i have a permanent script for it and take it when I feel a little achy or sore/stiff joints. No joint issues since. Much better than prednisolone and I can keep training.

Yup meloxicam and robaxin have been a staple for my lower back arthritis for awhile now…common sense and listening to the body it’s all good these days…

Are you worried about doing more damage long term since you just can’t feel the pain?or is it just reducing the inflammation so there is no more damage, because the inflammation is the source of the problem

I can definitely feel pain Lol The inflammation is the problem. The meloxicam knocks it out so everything works smoothly again. I think more long-term damage would be done by working out while everything is inflamed. When trying to figure out my bicep tendonitis, the doc said that the tendon basically goes through a little hole in your shoulder or something like that. When your tendon is inflamed it doesn't fit through that hole very well and just keeps rubbing on it continually aggravating and inflaming it. It will never get a chance to heal. Reduce that inflammation and now the tendon fits through the hole without rubbing and has a chance to heals since it isn't being continually inflamed anymore. Can work out pain free now.

I agree buddy, you can try all these different supplements till the cows come home MoooOOOO but at the end of the day - nothing heals like good old rest and time. If you can take a solid week off training and or even better 10 days, it is so much more effective than say 2 months of ramming every supplement down your throat possible and the rest. This is why doing a Deload week every 4 weeks is so beneficial if you like medium to heavy training, just doing a light week where you are still lifting and getting blood into the area but not putting it under strenous load is so beneficial.

Makwa's picture

I usually come back stronger after a week off. Everything just feels refreshed

press1's picture

Its because as time goes on you are training more and more in a fatigued state, both in muscle soreness and general fitness level. Then when you have a week off supercompensation occurs where you completely recover over and above the level you were at before in terms of your base fitness and strength level, meaning more muscle and strength than you previously had.

Most of my "pain" is in my right elbow which has been bad since I experienced a bad hyper extension in high school. I do have tendinitis in both biceps at the shoulder, but those feel fantastic based on exactly what you said, rest. I had to suck it up and not touch a barbell on flat bench for a solid year & now I am pain free there.

Never tried meloxicam for myself but my older dogs are on a product called metacam which contains meloxicam .
The difference when there on it is unreal.
Been told they should only stay on it for short periods as it’s no good for the heart, same applies for us too.

I asked my doc about long term use and he said it is safe. He has a ton of people on it for arthritis control who take it pretty consistently and have been on it a long time. He told me to take as needed. I just take it sporadically when I feel my joints get a little achy or my arthritis flares up and it knocks it right out. But obviously with any long-term NSAID use you should be consulting a doc and getting regular checkups to be safe.

I think almost all of us have been in that boat. Try out some Voodoo flossing. It helps a great deal

Are you doing a lot of barbell and dumbbell extensions? If so switch to machines and cable pulleys, bring down volume or intensity depending on how you currently train too.

Also, training early morning within three hours upon awakening makes you more prone to joint problems.

Wildling's picture

The only extensions I do without cables are French presses with a dumbbell. I ran through it last night with 70lbs with little irritation. Cable pushdowns are a huge culprit… I think spreading my hands out with a wider bar will help with the torque.

A friend of mine absolutely destroyed his elbows and I’ve felt some pain too, from coming up too far on cable triceps exercises, like push down and rope pull downs if you bring your forearms up past Parallel to the floor it might cause you some trouble over time

Owes a Review × 1
Wildling's picture

My biggest issue is my natural width. I haven't measured in a while but my chest is 57" around, so bring my hands close together probably doesn't help anything. I will focus on stopping my forearms at parallel.

How’s your diet? Are you eating acidic foods? I had to cut back and it helped slightly but i might have to go a little more extreme.

Rosschestzip's picture

What would eating acidic foods do? Inflammation?

Started back on pretty much carnivore Sunday. I eat frozen cherries and mango every night as a little treat, but that’s it.

SimonM84's picture

If you sacrifice the cherries and mango’s, it would fully take effect regarding your colon bacteria. That’s more paleo I’d say. I did carnivore for 5 weeks religiously and it worked like a charm but I’m not going to lie, I ended up getting inflammation. I think it was just too much beef for my system not to mention, I did have constipation. I’m on somewhat of a meat and fruit diet now but I do have my squash and salalds. I’ll go full carnivore again within the next few weeks.

I changed my water to alkaline as well as adding some lemon and danlion root tea. I’m on GH so my joints have been very achy lately, might need to cut back. I’m definitely less inflamed now than I was a few months ago.

Wildling's picture

We’ve been doing the alkaline water for a while. It helps with my gut a ton but too much isn’t the best for you. Happy medium I guess…. I had a ton of success with the layout I set forth earlier. I have bowel issues already and this kinda resets things. I do agree it is pretty much paleo. I can tell when I veer off and eat junk or processed foods.

Yep, totally. With strict disciplined diet like that, you have only increased sensitivity which is a good thing. Your body will be able to detect what harmful for you more efficiently.

Jockstrap's picture

Pushing well above your norm? Extra zealous? How are you doing warmup?

Wildling's picture

I actually make sure to warm up extensively. I could press the stack on extensions before, 180lbs, but have been just increasing reps. I focus on tension and stretch. I really started noticing it during deadlifts a couple days ago. I am shooting for 30 days in the gym to start the year so that may have something to do with it. My body may just be sore and tired.

Jockstrap's picture

Sounds like youre hitting it hard with good warmups. heat post workout can help relieve lactic acid with continued bloodflow. But rest too is a key point. Getting older isnt fun. Haha. The growth comes during rest and recovery. You got this. Enjoy

Edit....if you run blood test and estrogen is low then tne on cycle works great. 50mg about 1.5hours preworkout with carbs. The fast uptake boosts the heavy lifts and quick conversion bumps estrogen.

Rosschestzip's picture

There’s the typical things you can do- stay hydrated, joint supplements, eat a diet that reduces inflammation, drink a little olive oil everyday. All of those little things have helped me a bit but also if I wait till the end of my workouts to do any of the movements that bother me, it’s 10x better. Even if I think there warmed up, they are not. Idk if they take longer to warm up but my shoulder and elbows will still hurt a little if I do movements in the first half of my workout, I’ve noticed a HUGE difference doing them at the end when the area is flooded with blood and 100% warmed up. Maybe take like two weeks off from extension movements and take some joint supplements and omega 3, fish oil, olive oil or whatver you decide and then maybe start slow and see if there’s any improvement. Maybe see if you can change your workouts to avoid those movements as much as possible? Hope that helps, joint issues suck

I’ll focus on taking some time off. If it bothers me, I’ll just move on and reassess after a week. I don’t supplement omegas but started carnivore again Monday. I’m hoping it’s just inflammation with a mixture of exhaustion.

Ya for sure inflammation is killer. If you can stomach it, try a shot of olive oil once a day, it’s literally lube lol. And like I said number one thing for me has been warming up like crazy, like only work that joint once your pumped

glucosamine can really help joint pain aswell. My wife has been taking it for about 6 years now. Can be a little pricey but really does help. Hope you guys have a blessed evening

Taken glucosamine for a long time, biggest waste of money for me. Imo it has a placebo effect you just want it to work.
Deca does help but as said it’s a masking effect.
Prednisolone if you can get it is good, along with deca its the only way I can train (am old)

Maybe a little npp would help? I'm 40 now and was having similar issues with tendon in my elbow. Started running npp and it's gone away completely.

That would probably help. I think my estro is in the gutter which is common for me… if I hadn’t finished four weeks of blue hearts two weeks ago, I’d jump back on that wagon to see if some bloat may help. I was planning on jumping on five weeks at the end to create a nice bookend coming off.

I would never do a Test only cycle anymore solely for this reason, last time I did my shoulders were sore and took forever to heal - so I always use NPP now. If you want to lift heavy and you do it for years then your joints will suffer, no way around it. Known many heavy squatters now with bad knees, benchers its normally shoulders or elbows, deadliftrs its usually hips or a shot lower back Lol

Jockstrap's picture

Just dont forget deca masks injuries as well. Pains alleviated til youre finished with the cycle and boom.

press1's picture

I think it helps mask soreness and maybe tendonitis a little, but its not strong enough to numb injury pain. Even if I use NSAID's I can still feel the injury and most likely cannot lift properly or at all.

Rosschestzip's picture

Really? I’d have full tits if I ran 19-nors like that.

SimonM84's picture

Lol same

press1's picture

I use to run high Tren and NPP together all the time and never taken caber, can run big test and high DBol and never use AI either. Everyone is different mate, most guys would need them.

Rosschestzip's picture

I never need an AI, but need caber on 19-Nors but haven’t needed one yet on tren which is weird but whatever. I always run masteron with tren but back when I used to use NPP I didn’t use masteron with it so idk if masteron having AI properties helps lower prolactin also or what or if I’m just getting old and changing lol

Wildling's picture

I’ve never needed AIs either…. My joints turn into shit on them which makes me think this is mostly estro related, which could be great verse the alternative.

press1's picture

Exactly the same here bro - everyone told me years ago that I must take an AI even though I felt I didn't need to. So I took adex for a week and my shoulders would feel dry and sore. I think absolutely oestrogen helps joints because when I use good Dbol I feel like I am 18 again LOL No soreness at all, full speed in lifts again etc. If for any reason you start to get bitch tits just use tamoxifen and the joints will still be fine.

Wildling's picture

Dbol is such an under appreciated supplement.

Dbol Bad Lol

press1's picture

1000 Upvotes!!!! Lol

It gets dismissed because its an old steroid with all the newer things out there. But imo its still the best oral, gets you Stronger, Bigger, Happier! & doesn't destroy your insides. I think a lot of guys when they try it get shit versions so they feel rough on it, or it doesn't work as well. A lot of guys want to look lean too - Dbol isn't that type of steroid, anavar will always be the better choice there. The quality of the raw is more important than the Jano result. Same as Oils.

Wildling's picture

You’re probably spot on. I haven’t run a test only cycle in maybe 5 years or more. That was a younger me as well.

I haven’t run NPP in a minute. Is 3x a week still sufficient at 100mg?

If you want some strength out of it plus the pain relief/cushioning I would go for 400mg/wk (60mg ED) or yes shoot it EOD
