+ 3 Wife low T at 26 years old

ad

Hi ladies, hopefully grrl and some others can chime in here.

My wife and I have been concerned she might have a hormonal imbalance for a few years now. She has all the signs of low T or some other hormonal imbalance. Low energy, low sex drive, low motivation, hair shedding, etc etc. Despite these issues she has managed to get herself into fantastic fucking shape. Gets 8-9 hours of sleep a night, exercises 5 days a week (weights & cardio), eats clean.

She finally took the plunge and got labs done from her OB.

Total Testosterone was 15ng/dL (Ultra sensitive LC MS/MS method <=75ng/dL)

TSH 0.62 uIU/mL (range 0.40 - 4.20)

Iron is on the low end but within range

Lipids good

CBC and WBCD good as well

Doc did not test for estro or progesterone, said levels fluctuate to much in women to be worth testing

Once we got the results back we knew the testosterone was very low. From what we have read, under 25ng/dL is considered LOW for women under 50 years old. Under 20ng/dL is considered LOW for women over 50 years old. My wife is 26 years old with 15ng/dL, which is low even for a 70 year old women. Despite these results, the doctor said her testosterone is fine and her labs look good. What am I missing here? My wife is very confused as another family member who is almost 3x my wifes age had total T of 13ng/dL and was put on TRT (different doctor) yet my wife's doctor said her levels are fine.

I have been on TRT for 2 years so i somewhat know how this works on the male side but i have ZERO experience with the women's side of things. Do her numbers look good as the doc says or are they considered low?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you

First off fire your doctor. No estrogen no progesterone levels. Fire him. Get those levels checked chances are they are off as welll. Until those are identified any help I can give is suspect

She’s NOT depressed or mentally ill. WHY take antidepressants? Cbburr is absolutely right find a clinic take the drive if you need to.

Docs prescribed Zoloft, she pics up script tomorrow. Seems backwards to me.

Reached out to a few bhrt docs in the area but nothing concrete yet.

If you do not find a bioidentical hormone Clinic locally don't be afraid to go for a drive. It's only every 3 or 4 months, worth it to find a good Clinic. Feel free to shoot me a p.m. if you have any questions about hormones for chicks. I've been going to the doctor with my wife for the last 4 years.

Update: Primary doc spoke to Endo and Endo says her T levels are fine. They want to put her on a whole bunch of other meds to mask the symptoms, energy/anxiety/mood/ etc etc. This seems backwards to me. Why not treat the root cause? Could it be because of her age?

She is getting frustrated with this, every document she has read says her levels are below the LOW end and she's having all the symptoms yet these doctors keep saying they are fine.

CBBurrr's picture

What a croc of shit.
Local doctors tried that same shit with my wife. Wanted to give her Paxil.

Do some research and find a well-respected identical hormone replacement therapy Clinic.

Thanks brother. Reached out to the local Bhrt clinic as soon as my wife sent me the email from the doc.

Testosterone is way safer than antidepressants and benzos.

Couple weeks after pellet implants my wife's level will be around 200 NG / DL 4 months later it will be at about 50. She's happy energetic and horny.
She's going to do the wax thing every once in awhile, her clits about the same no other androgenic side effects at all.
I've shopped around, most clinics charge between 400 and 600 bucks to do the pellet implant and consult. They will prescribe any other drugs as well as some important supplements like vitamin K & D.

pickle's picture

Agreed, thats why im shocked that they would recommend antis and benzos instead of looking at a hormone treatment. I should have known, when we moved and transferred insurance/doctors i saw a doc in the same place about getting my TRT scripts transferred and he said the same thing these docs are telling my wife. He wanted to put me on antidepressants and said my T level of 180 was fine at age 25. Idiot.

Thats fantastic man, glad its improved her quality of life. That seems like a deep taper off, but the 4 month level is still like 3.5x higher than my wifes is now LOL. Im hoping for the same for my wife. The protective husband side of me comes out when these docs refuse to help her.

Endos are not always the end all be all. The numbers very so much ie from 10-25 ( I’m just pulling numbers) that is a big difference and just because I feel ok at 10 does not mean that Somebody else will. Maybe find a different dr that will listen to your and you’re wife’s beliefs are and that is the dr you want to go to. Tell them how you two feel and if it’s a good dr he will listen and consider as long as her labs all look good.

Give DHEA a try, for woman it can convert to test. Start with 25mg ed and push to no more than 50mg ed. Good luck brother

Wife has been using DHEA on and off since you made the recommendation. She feels so much better on it. Quality of life has improved drastically, so have her gym gains. Thanks again for the rec man.

Thanks brother. Will talk it over with the wife.

Not sure why someone would neg this and not post their issue with it.

My friend also has the same symptoms. Doctor wanted her around 70. She’s a different person now, for the better.

pickle's picture

What specific changes did you see once she leveled out around 70? Glad your friend got everything worked out, thanks for the info brother.

Muffins's picture

She is more assertive, hair shedding has stopped and she is thinking clearly. She felt like she had ADD prior to the treatment. She was super low single digits.

Endocrinologist is your answer. Your guessing low T, but it could be a million different things.

Working on getting rec from primary to see endo. We are not guessing low T, blood work says its low T, very low T. I posted results up top?

CBBurrr's picture

Sometimes a gynecologist is not the best doctor for treating hormone disorders. They're just a box doc.

Bhrt clinics are popping up all over. They will do way more thorough blood work. Probably put your girl on some pellets and bring that test back up above 45. They will also handle anything else that shows up on blood work. Even the thyroid will probably be bumped up to the high end of normal.

pickle's picture

Have not seen Bhrt before but quick google search came up with Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, is that what you are referring too?

Going to see if we can get a rec to an endo from her primary. If that falls short then i will be exploring your option more thoroughly. Im guessing bhrt clinics do not work with regular insurance?

CBBurrr's picture

Yes, my wife has been on it for 4 years now.

Testosterone is delivered by pellets under the skin. Good for 4 months.

Not too expensive either

CBBurrr's picture

Most do not work with insurance, but your meds can probably be covered.
Every city has these clinics. If the endo does not solve the issue, go this route

Box Doc is hilarious Smile

Really agree on those who are saying to get to an endocrinologist.

Caeser's picture

“Box Doc”... LOL!

zeusmarada's picture

Please keep us posted on this thread, cuz I'd really like to hear what info you discover and what treatment options are suggested, both by the medical system (docs) as well as peeps here who've had something similar occur on their end. Thank you for candidly sharing this post! This thread can/will help a lot of people in the future. +1 for being open and candid.

pickle's picture

Thank you brother. My wife has been struggling with this for a long time, she was relieved to see that her T was so low, it gave her a bit of closure. Now its time to see how we can fix it. I will keep everyone update as this progresses, thanks!

Caeser's picture

Two things...
One - best for her to consult a doctor
Two - As I understand the Forum...your wife should create an account & ask her questions; frowned upon to “ask for a second party”...unless things have changed around here.

pickle's picture

Hey Ceaser. She has been consulting her doctor, her doctor ordered the blood work. As far as posting for others, if its our SO i thought it was fine as i often see guys posting questions for their wives. If im wrong then someone tell me.

Just PM Kodiak mate - she's pretty good at responding.

Thanks man me too. This doctor said the acceptable range for insurance is 8-60ng/dL which i thought was weird.
