My Skinny Brethren

ad

“I can’t gain weight because of my fast metabolism.” You have heard that same mantra hundreds of times. If you’ve been thin most of your life, just as I have been, chances are you have also chanted those same words on at least one occasion – I know that I have.

It flat sucks, doesn’t it. You might be someone who spends day after day, month after month, and, in some cases, year after year without gaining weight. You’ve busted your ass off in the gym with little to no results. You may even ask yourself, “What the fuck did I do wrong?!” (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Total Recall).

How many times have you heard a co-worker or friend say the following words: “You’re so skinny! I thought you said you worked out!” Yes, that’s the one . . . The one thing you don’t want to hear after all your vigorous work in the gym. Could there be a more aggravating, asinine thing to say?! To deflect you retort with the usual response most skinny guys give: “I can’t gain weight because of my fast metabolism.”

Here’s a question for my fellow skinny brethren that is worth pondering:

What exactly do you mean by fast metabolism?

It has come to my attention while perusing through the forums that many of us skinny guys are full of shit! Yes!!! Full of absolute shit!!! I am going to provide an example of something I often see in the forums, which I confess is anecdotal, in this link here: https://www.eroids.com/forum/steroids-qa/steroid-cycles/bulking-cycle-1

If you read the comments section in the link above, you have seen for yourself that the OP, likely a Bostin Llyod fan, claims to eat 5000 calories per day. Can anyone point out the disparity between his false claim and stats? Well, if you cannot, I suggest you look up the number of calories a guy with his stats needs to consume every day to bulk (using the TDEE calculator): https://tdeecalculator.net/

Unless you suffer from hyperthyroidism or some other unknown medical condition that precludes weight gain, there is no reason you can’t gain weight if you are consuming sufficient calories. You must be honest about your degree of discipline and dedication when it comes to proper diet, if you truly want to see your weight-gaining goals come into fruition. If you are willing to put forth the effort, there are knowledgeable members here that will help you along the way.

In the meantime, to help you get started on your bulking journey, look at some of these wonderful treasures written by other members on the site (included is workout advice):

Not me, if I drive past a few fast food places on a highway I gain weight

jrod91384's picture

I always said that. 5'10 120 at 26 years old.
I didn't put anything on until I truly dedicated myself. Diet workout and rest.
Don't blame your body. Blame the work ethic

That's the ticket -- proper diet, workouts, and rest!

That's a lot to read, but judging by the comments below, it's good stuff.

That used to be me. I would eat large quantities of food in one sitting but only 2 meals a day. I wasn't getting anywhere near the amount of calories I thought I was. Now I get between 5-6 down daily.

That's true. A lot of them don't have the ingredients listed on the label, and others have ingredients not listed on the label. I tend to stay away from pre-workout and post-workout supplements. A couple cups of coffee will usually do me just right!

Theres a guy in my gym, was skinny as a rail. He said his job and his metabolism stopped him from gaining weight. I gave him a training schedule as well as a food regimen. I told him to weigh himself once every 2 weeks. He started off at 135 at 5' 7 2 months ago.
As of yesterday he weighs 160 and he put on some nice muscle but of course fat too, it was a bulk. Not the most ideal size difference but size nonetheless.
I told him fast metabolism is just another way of saying lazy. No aas either all natty. Now I have to remove some fat and trade it for carbs to really blow him up. Teacher, teach thyself lol.

Not to shabby there! 25 lbs. is a good amount of weight to pack on in 2 months, especially for a guy who stands 5' 7". That's what it's all about . . . Helping other guys (like the one you mentioned) realize their goals are achievable with the proper dedication and mindset! Hell yeah!

He is young still too, at 26. His dad made sure he stuck with it as well since he works for his dad and they both go to the gym. I told him the sky is the limit.

People think they eat alot until they actually weight out and record everything. They are usually eating about half of what they think they are.

I used to eat large amounts of food in one sitting. The problem was I would only eat 2 meals a day, and I now know I wasn't eating anywhere near the amount of calories I thought I was at the time. I had no understanding of macros, calories, nutrient timing, etc. I weighed 140 soaking wet. LMAO!

I appreciate the kind words, Murph. Whatever karma this post may have received would be owed to the other members whose links I provided. I just wanted to steer fellow newbs in the right direction, that's all. About a year ago I would peruse the forums and read a lot of solid advice you gave to other members. Glad to see you are back!

My brother and sister got mad at me because they were complaining about wanting to lose weight. I said "losing weight is easy, just cut calories...gaining muscle is a lot harder, and requires work"

Christophany's picture

Truth!

Doing both at the same time. THAT is where the fun begins.

Oh yeah. My favorite is: "I'm an ectomorph." Uh huh. I used to think that too. Then something funny happened. I trained harder and smarter, started eating more and better, and dedicated myself to being the best I could be. And… lo and behold, turns out I was a "mesomorph" this whole time!

Christophany's picture

Great input! I used to say the same thing, and I have steadily been putting on weight since I started eating more. I used to think I ate a lot, but that wasn't the case. Sure, it takes time to put on quality weight, but anyone can do it as long as they do not have a medical condition which prevents them from doing so; all they have to do is eat!

You may even ask yourself, “What the fuck did I do wrong?!” (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Total Recall).

Yes! You're a funny motherfucker. Always laughed out loud at that part. But you missed: "TELL MEEE!!!"

BOOM! 10 minutes more for their school principal. With this new and innovative program, you can overcome life's obstacles with click of a button on your cellphone. LMAO!

Ah, a meditative tape. Your ever magnanimous guide in pondering the age-old existential question: "what the fuck did I do wrong?"

Alas, it only provides the inquiry. The answer, you must seek for yourself. Your journey is begun.

Lmfao I believe only a wise man can can answer that question and to women not a single man is wise

That scene is priceless! LMAO!
