Use Google scholar to research it and you'll find that there is evidence. It's not a very strong supplement but just something to keep in your arsenal and like I said below it really only helps with irresponsible use, and doesn't do anything for people who decided to be monsters in their 20s and wrecked themselves stacking orals. You are very correct that lots of water is important to help filter things through your body. Also finding A supplement company that actually puts the product they claim is in their supplements is super tricky.

Bang on the money right there!

We have steroid testing but I don't know of any supplement testing.

In order for my results to be 100%positive I have to be 100% positive im using what I think I'm using.

I used liv52DS last year and the pain it gave me was horrific......I binned it

Milk thistle alone bro isn't going to cut it......

I completely agree with you. I want to saying is there is scientific evidence to support its ability to help the liver heal and regenerate faster. I'm not saying it's like a nuclear weapon of liver care, only taking care of yourself and running responsible dosages of our supplements will keep you safe. I know for a fact that it reduces my liver enzymes because I'm in a position where I can run them every week possibly multiple times. It's not something that's really going to fix a liver that's been damaged by irresponsible steroid use due to ignorance. Which is why all the people who've been here for a while preach moderation and responsibility.

There was a study done on milk thistle and it was shown to do......very little if anything. Googling it shows so many conflicting anecdotes but once you get past the bullshit you will find actual studies that showed it had no effect on regeneration, it only protected. Not worth it at all for regen but only for an added protection and not the only thing to use.

XmadXscientist's picture

There's is tons of conflicting reports and it's hard to sort through. Make sure you only use the real reports and not abstracts to decide. An abstract is just someone's opinion of what happened. Even if no regeneration( despite that it's used in alcoholic cirrhosis) I think it's worth the 5$ for extra protection. I use natrol supplements for my ala and milk thistle. If you have the studies on hand refuting it could you pm me?

Here is one from tje mayo clinic that says more real research needs to be done since after 5 years of continous use it did little for regeneration,

http://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/milk-thistle/evidence/hrb-20...

Here is the other report showing milk thistle improved liver function, but offered no regeneration at all.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK11896/

And once again, inconclusive. So as it is its good to use alongside a proven liver support mechanism.
To see if it really works you need to do a 100mg a day halo or methyltren cycle for 2 weeks and take only milk thistle as suggested by the bottle and take a blood test. Unfortunately if you prove it does nothing you just killed your liver. I dont bother with it much anymore. I use turmeric and tudca on its own cycle, I take it for 90 days then take 30 days off. I like to try and keep the immune system I was born with stay strong by letting it work naturally. Now on cycle is a different story lol.

XmadXscientist's picture

I should have been more specific with the term regeneration when I used it and framed it more towards the acute damage relating to our habits or maybe someone who overdosed on Tylenol or the like and not cirrhosis. The studies are inconclusive because big Pharma can't patent it and they're the ones spending money on research so there will never be more investigation. Agree with you that it should only be used in conjunction with other liver protectants like tudca. Anyone using it on its own is nuts. If anyone tries it with Halo well then at least we held the process of evolution along right?

kibby's picture

Can you post bloods showing this??

Not doubting you buddy, would be very valuable to the members on eroids.

If you could state your doses in conjunction with your blood tests

Idk if I still have labs, it was a thirty percent decrease. I wasn't on cycle though. I had been using Alka seltzer for several weeks and ran my labs to see how it affected my enzymes. Surprisingly they were 20% worse than running orals. I used 1 gram morning and 1 gram at night. I was still using the alka seltzer and my enzymes dropped about 10% below normal levels.

I agree where on the same page bro far as people have to be safeans research...

Milk Thistle has the potential of helping a bit but expecting anything more than "a bit of help" from it would be unwise IMO.

The best thing you can do to keep a healthy liver is stay well hydrated at all times and preferrably avoid or at least limit orals. A solid diet will also keep your health on point, which will also keep liver health on point.

preferrably avoid or at least limit orals.

Bingo, and I seen his question didn't even specify orals or what kind and dose..........

Milk thistle is one of the best my doctor even told me to take that when mine were elevated and I'm one to listen to a doctor

Not all docs are smart and/or right

Something like 70% of the population has an iq under 100. As a medical professional I'm sad to say it translates to every level of that field to. I've had to call docs in the ER half a dozen times to stop a spinal tap simply because they couldn't diagnose mono.
