Gloves - Yes or No?

ad

Hi All.

A Mate of mine recently posted a pic to his social network page and got some MAJOR heat from his followers for it.

This is what he posted:

It was obviously meant as a tongue-in-cheek joke at those who wear gloves when they workout. But some of his followers IMMEDIATELY got on the defensive soap-box and berated him for posting it with reply comments consisting of, "I work out with gloves and I'm not a woman", "I wear gloves when I work out because I don't like my hands to feel rough afterwards", and my personal favorite, (And this was a beauty), "I wear gloves when I work out. I can bench press a full 220lbs. I'd like to see any woman do that". o_0

(These are just so just some of the dumber comments made).

I responded with my own admission that I too wear gloves when I workout, but I wear them for a multitude of different reasons. Firstly, my workout gloves are probably the best quality gloves I have EVER used, which also have wrap around wrist straps attached to them. I use them to help protect not only my hands from the callouses, but to help support my wrists too. Secondly, I workout in a bodybuilding/weight lifting gym, where grunts, groans and moans are an everyday sonnet to the iron and not in some fitness mecca where you get intimidated by some Lunk Alarm for breathing too heavy. Therefore, hands do get torn up by some non-glove wearing members which results in blood being shed and I don't want to catch Hep-C or some other blood order because of it. And thirdly, I use the back of my gloves to wipe sweat away from eyes instead of reaching for my towel and they help to soak up and remove the sweat that skin simply doesn't.

There are of course other benefits to wearing gloves when working up, but I just wanted to give some of the reasons behind why I use them.

Who else refuses to workout WITHOUT using their gloves? Or simply refuses to wear them, MAYBE because you want to feel more in control of the bar by not wearing them, etc?

I'd be interested in hearing your opinion/s on the subject.

Best regards.

Honestly it's really up to you and how your hands take it. I used gloves because it helps me lift heavier and doesn't mess it up as bad as it did when i didn't use gloves. make sure you go with one that best fits your need.

I use grip pads for pull movements. Still maintain the feel of the bar, and building grip strength as well. Plus I don't get the gnarly calluses on my palms anymore.

I don't wear gloves and the reason is grip! I like to feel the bar for safety. One time and the last time I used gloves I was benching and because of the gloves I don't think I had a good grip and I dropped 225 right out of my hands with arms fully extended. Shit bounced off and I caught.. Was sore as fuck for weeks because I'm sure I broke some ribs .. Fuck gloves lol

I don't use gloves, the callouses on my hands should prove it lol. I only use wrist wraps. I feel you can't develop strength in your wrists or hands from wearing them that's just my opinion. I felt weaker in my hands when I used them.

never once used gloves for lifting... agreed with pic

I'll use gloves only on pulling movements if the bar is too small a diameter.
