For illogical reasons we are repeating the social and fiscal policies of Europe and expecting a different result - go figure. We're absolutely broke and no person that is 'up to speed'will argue this fact. I am in daily contact with a fair number of this nations military and business owners which gives me confidence that this nation is still producing great leaders who will help work us out of this mess when the opportunity presents itself.
Presently we are on a south bound train, however, this is still and always will be the greatest nation. No disrespect to my eroid brothers in other country's. My comment is shoring up my view as a US citizen during a challenging time.

Since we are on the subject of America going to hell in a hand basket. What do you think the people who lived during the civil war thought? It was right in our front yard right in our face and there was no way to escape it. In the South there was a HUGE number of civilian casualties with the destruction of Southern cities and farms late in the war.

While this is a great write up, I don't see how this has bearing on the issue we were discussing. You do have an absolute right to your opinion, just like I have the right to question why you would agree with the statement that was made. My comment was directed at you because your answer to someone that did not like the direction his government was taking the country in was well, get out then. The example you gave was of a president and a country that did the right thing in protecting life, liberty and the persuit of happiness for everyone. I dont see how this example has any bearing on the conversation of whether someone can give there political opinion without being told "leave if you dont like it." To answer your question, I think that both sides thought it was a tragedy that so many people died in the civil war. If you look at it from a present time perspective, while still a horrible thing that so many had to die, the civil war was a necessity in order to enforce the Constitution which promises to uphold certain unalienable rights for everyone. I don't understand the correlation between the civil war and witch burning with someone being upset about the present government mirroring the fiscal policies of other countries that have consistently failed.
