Our murder rate is much lower though. UK is 1.2 per 100,000. USA is 5 per 100,000 and 60% of the USA murders are with guns.
The reason why the UK supposedly has a high violent crime rate is because what we define as a violent crime, this would be classed as a violent crime in the UK http://www.eroids.com/forum/general/off-topic/irishs-first-good-deed-of-... but in other parts of Europe like Spain it wouldn't. If you give a cop lip in Spain he'll slap you and it's in no way classed as a violent crime but here in the UK they would be. In the UK even if you don't have any injuries whatsoever you can still be classed as a victim of violent crime. If we used the same definition as other countries it would be one of the lowest rates in the world.

those guns suck, more expensive than a "real" gun and fail after a few shots, though they are made of composite plastic and could get by a metal detector, good for some applications I guess
StevebYou only need to make the lower receiver with the 3D printer. The rest you can buy regular metal parts. People have done it and shot 2000 rounds out of a rifle with no problems.

No ones said anything about removing the second amendment, just military type weapons that are designed for people in a warzone like the AR-15. If no one in the US had that type of weapon why would you need one? To defend against someone? If you need an assault rifle to defend yourself then you're in serious shit.
Take a civilian ar-15 into combat, let me know how that works out for you. Most will fail if you run the nato ball thru them because the operating pressure is higher and the gas tubing isnt designed to handle the heat. They arent select fire, they have lighter components, etc. THEY ARENT MILITARY-TYPE WEAPONS. Explain to me how a semi-auto ar-15 shooting .223 Remington is more dangerous than an M1 Garand shooting .30.
I use my ar-15s for competition shooting, sport shooting, and tyranny protection. Anyone who tells you they use their rifle for home defense is either a liar or doesnt have neighbors. The crooks on the streets arent carrying ar15s because they are way too damn expensive and for their purposes, a mossberg 500 (300 dollars) or a keltec POS pistol (cheap) or a highpoint POS pistol (cheaper) are just as effective. So you kinda gotta wonder why the folks in washington are so scared of them? If I ever need it to defend myself with my m4, I will acknowledge, yes, I will probably be in some serious shit: in this scenario, however, it is likely that the government, and the unarmed, will be in some seriously deeper shit.
Okay the gun I said might be a bad example but still my point is perfectly relevant.
What scenario do you think you'll ever need your m4? Unless you're in the military, police or a hitman I can't see anyone needing it.

ALL weapons are "military style weapons." The knife you use to cut your chx up is made of way better steel with a way better age than the military weapons from the 16th century. Many people every year are stabbed with them. We should ban them. Single-fire breach loading weapons were the very best that the turn of the 20th century militaries could field. They kill people every year. Ban all hunting rifles. The modern automatic handgun (glock, sig, springfield) has the same firepower that 2 squads of regulars from the American Civil War could have applied. Ban all handguns. The only thing that differentiates ar15s, scars, acrs, etc from these other weapons is the type of people who own them generally dont trust the government, and most of us were trained by the government in how to use them. We scare the hell out of the government. As one of Obama's appointee's said in 2009, "Never let a good tragedy go to waste." Gotta use the emotion stemming from the sandy hook shooting to ban assault rifles (even though he used pistols).
Martial law, economic collapse, disease outbreak, natural disaster, etc, etc. You dont see the need for YOU to have it. I see the scenario where I MAY need it, and therefore choose to have it. Is MY rifle hurting you, in any way, shape or form? No. So why worry about whether I have one? Unless its sneaking out and killing folks while Im at work, its a non-issue.

A gun is a weapon and its sole purpose is to kill. Luckily nothing has ever come of it, but I know what it feels like to want to defend your family and home.
The reality as I have mentioned before, is 99.99 % of all threats that I will face can not be defended by a gun. From illness, to my mortgage, to drunk drivers and the tax man, none of those things can be fended off with a gun.

Look to see how all the states w/the strictest gun control are still the states w/the most gun violence. Also how, in the past 20 years violence using a gun as the weapon of choice (murder, etc, etc, etc) has gone down like 49%. Just not in the states that are:

Somebody with a vantage point in an urban area, with a bolt action rifle, effective out past 600yds with an oil filter over the end of the barrel is far more dangerous.

But I dont hunt deer with that round, because it doesnt hold a candle to the killing power of a single 30-06. The argument that the .223/5.56 was designed to kill and maim, and the rounds that a hunting rifle shoots werent is just garbage. Id expect better from a guy with that many stars on his collar.
