Is a truck too impractical?

ad

Yup, still searching for my next ride. I've looked at just about every single good MPG vehicles, and I like none of them...They are all literally the exact same thing, just look different, and none of them look good. Yes, they may get good mpg, but they have no heart and soul. They're fucking tiny, no room. I can't really justify spending 15-20k on a car I'm not attached to, and have zero emotional feels for.

This is where trucks come in. I love trucks. They're big, spacious, fun, not to mention I love sitting higher above the road. I found a few I really like, and when my dad asked me what I'm looking to get, his response was a big ol laugh saying I will be unhappy within a year because of gas mileage.

I really don't know what to do. Should I just say fuck myself and my spiritual side and buy some generic sedan and have no emotional attachment to my vehicle, thus not give two shits about it. Or say, fuck it, might as well spend 15-20k on a vehicle you WANT.

go truck! just got a 2010 silverado few months ago and i love it. flex fuel but i use the regular cause it gets better mileage.

I have a 2009 Silverado that I got rid of because it was killing me in gas. Now they have all this flex fuel shit and more advanced tech with MPG. I have a soccer mom jawnski now. Honda CRV. Fill it up once every two weeks!

I dunno brother, I travel strictly by Harley... And my practicality has me looking at a second Bike right now LOL!

Something to keep in mind, 20k will get you a really nice new car with a good warranty. 20k will get you a base model light duty truck like a tacoma, colorado, ranger, etc. I have a late 90s F-150 4x4 with a lift and big wheels and tires, loved it till $70-80 fill ups on 15mpg highway. I now loathe my truck and drive my wifes economy car anytime I travel more than 5 mins from my house. I also wouldn't buy anything domestic to the US new. I'm very unimpressed with the quality and longevity of anything chevy, ford, and chrysler are producing. I get to deal with their poor quality on a daily basis. I'm a technician at a dealership btw.

If you don't use the truck bed every day its a waste of space. Buy an SUV Full Size! Many to choose from on the older years! Escalade (pricey But nice) Tahoe, Expedition, Yukon, Navi.... Pretty much from the 2005-2008 you can still get decent mileage from a private sale for the right price.

I drive a Toyota Tacoma w/ a shell on the bed. I couldn't drive a car. I live in the sticks and need 4x4. I like to be able to haul whatever I want too... I had someone give me a brand new gas grill last night, try getting that in a car? If I didn't take it right then they were gonna give to someone else... Ask Ed though, I think he has a Prius?

Tahoe.. 2 door. 97... beast.. love it..would NEVER go back to
a normal car.. paid $32K for it brand new.. has 90K miles.. drives like its just broken in.

My next one, is a used truck. lift kit, 40 inch tires,etc.. I dont care about
what is in the new ones at all.. I laugh at car commercials on tv. look for something
around $12-15K and you will be stylin... check out ebay.. find a beast.. (local).
take it to your dealer- before you purchase and have them check it over to see
what it needs.(or doesn't) and go from there..

I see trucks all over for like $10K an under for sale and there killer..
Your Dad is jealous ...(j/k).. dont worry about the gas mileage.. worry about
keeping it for 10 years.. and beating on it..

my 2 cents !!

Turbo diesel.. once you get hooked on rollin coal, you will wonder why you ever even drove a gasser

mechtech's picture

Turbo diesel is nice until you have to pay for maintenance and if anything fails, literally anything, you pay 2-3x parts and labor of a gasser. They are impractical unless you need it for equipment or farm use.

Get the truck brother. You'll never regret it. Unless of course you are a homo. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I love my Silverado. Have had a few. If you are handy, take on projects, or have animals, etc. it can be awesome to have a truck. Go for it bud

If your an out doorsy kinda guy (fourwheeling, dirtbikes, manual labor etc) and you'll use it for what its used for then yeah.. Just don't be one of the tools that buys one because it looks cool.. Those guys can't even turn a truck correctly let alone park one LOL

I myself I'd be lost without my truck, everyone always says the gas the gas, but if u buy something just because of the gas savings U WILL NOT BE HAPPY.
Drive what u want not others think u should!

Get something you like thats going to be fun. Life is too short to live a boring life. Thats my plan is to get a truck that I don't really need but would just be badass to have and drive.
