Joining the Military
going through college right now, i got another 2 years left till i finish. oh yea im 24 yrs old.
Im thinking about just dropping college and going for it. I always wanted to be a marine or join the air-force, ever since i was 18.
School & work is a life that sucks and tiring, not to mention im living a very worried life right now, which definitely got me thinking , maybe i should just join the military, why wait right?
what u guys think,
should i stick it out these two years and join as an officer in the military,
or should i join now as a recruit /grunt?
to all the people here that went through the military, how did u guys like it? would u do it again? Tell me about ur best /worst experiences?

KidRiot has a lot of great comments below...
I was in the same boat as you, got out of high school, started college and joining the usmc was all i could think about. almost said fuck it and went in but ended up talking myself out of it, like everyone else said the military is always going to be there for you. Finish up school first, it will make it much more beneficial.
Currently an 0-2 and I fucking love it
If you have any questions just send me a PM and I'll tell you whatever you wanna know
Marine RECON
CleyonJoining the military is a great thing to do, I applaud all those who volunteer to serve our country. However, you are halfway through college! Finish your degree, and THEN join up as an officer! Get into ROTC for the next two years of your college career, and when you graduate head off to OCS. I haven't read all the replies below, so if I'm just repeating what's already been said I apologize.
Look at it this way.....You are half way to your education and it doesn't speak very well to any special operations unit that you quit college. I was special operations and the officers were head and shoulders above regular fleet officers. They did the same stuff we did and earned their respect because they deserved to be there. Secondly it's all about options! Thats the name of the game in any aspect of life. The more options you have the more chances for success you have. The more doors you have open. The military will always be there, but the time you have right now and the drive and focus to accomplish your mission of a degree will not. Incorporate your degree into your mission plan and make it one of the objectives in your life. Two years is not that far away and before you know it you will be living a great life with twice the opportunities and half the work. Trust me guts and glory can only carry you so far. You do need more than just balls and hard work! you need an education personal motivation to succeed where others fail! And yes I wish I never got out and was still in the desert somewhere freezing my balls off with my brothers! Best experience of my life....but I am working four times as hard for my education now with a family and obligations that make accomplishing my mission all that much harder!!!
CleyonThis is the first time an enlisted man has praised an officer! I need to go check the temperature in Hell... ;-D
thanks bud you convinced me , i think i ll finish the two years and i ll join NROTC, but i cant wait man. honestly been something i always wanted to do
No better friend no worse enemy.
If some one has to ask if they should join the the Marines then its not for them. If they like the easy way the the Marines is not for them.
If its in your blood and you are hardcore then be a Marine no questions asked.
Just know if it was for everyone then it wouldnt be the few.
I would suggest you stay in school and follow your heart
thanks for the advice man, i wasnt really asking if i should join, i was more asking wheter i should wait or not. i appreciate it brother thanks for those videos lol, i laughed but i know what im going in, or so i think i can handle it
definitely finish your education first bro. your experience in the military can very from being super shitty to being awesome. your education can help you get in with a good job. officers vs enlisted.... go with officer. your experience in the military will be more rewarding that way. do not let recruiters talk you into joining until you are completely finished with school.
My youngest son served in Afghanistan and came back a shell of the man I had raised. He had the choice of a year in prison or join the Army. If he was alive today he would tell you that he should have chosen prison. Stay in school and if you still feel the need to join then choose the air force or if you still feel like dropping out consider looking into becoming a Fireman.
CleyonFirst off, you make it seem like your son would have had a beautiful life without the EVIL military ruining it. Bullshit. (if you're even telling the truth, and not some anti-military troll) Your son was facing a year in prison, so he probably wasn't the best person in the world anyway. Do you really believe that he would have been better off getting ass-raped for a year than serving his country? Do you think he would have come out of that better?
Secondly, I don't believe you are telling the truth...
Army spokesman Lt. Col. Bryan Hilferty.
“Army policy reflected in Army Regulation 601-210, paragraph 4-32a states ‘waiver is not authorized if a criminal or juvenile court charge is pending or if such a charge was dismissed or dropped at any stage of the court proceedings on condition that the offender enlists in a military service,' ”
I served 7 combat tours between OIF and OEF in which my last tour resulted in combat injuries that almost cost me my life. I spent 27 months at WRAMC recovering and rehabing from injuries sustained in direct combat action and had to medically retire from the thing I loved most in my life next to my family...I miss the brotherhood everyday of my life..just because some people are genetically weak and cannot hack it, does not mean the rest of us have those genes..i do not regret a second of it..man up, shut your suck, and quit contaminating the rest of the population with your weak opinions....RLTW Motherf****r...
There it is! X2
CleyonThan you Snakeeater for your service.
the military isnt for everyone that's for sure, ive seen dudes cry themselves to sleep in boot, dudes killing themselves right after getting home from iraq for seeing things they cant live with.. ive seen shit some people cant handle, all i tell myself is that wow glad that wasnt me . but as for you i would finish my 4 years out, go in as a officer.. you get e5 pay, dont listen to shit from people, have a nicer place to live.. officer is the way to go for anything. be safe.. dont bust your ass for nothing
thank u for ur service man, i think i will just join NROTC, so i can join & finish school. and i know its gunna be tough man, i been through alot of tough time so i think im up for the challenge. it might suck, but i been the most positive in my worst time. also learned the most about myself in my worst times.
I loved my time in. That being said, stay in school. Take the time to decide what you expect and want out of the military and then research to see if it exist lol. Best experience, there were many great ones, at the top graduating BUD/S. The worst losing your best friends.
Im reading a book called "American Sniper" its an auto biography of a navy seal. u guys are fucking sick. thanks for ur service
Stay in school.
The first 2 years of the military will be more like school anyway -only a lot more physically and mentally challenging (not in a glamorous way).
Finish school, join the military, get the (much) higher pay grade.
I agree! Stay in school!
Some ppl like the military for structure, a sense of belonging and travel. Others just like to not have to think and be told what to do (everybody is accountable to someone) But if you are playing the grass is greener game because you think it will be "easier" than your life now then finish school and if you are still hating your life than go for it (and going in with a degree puts you ahead of the curve)
no im not going for it because my life sucks lol (which it kinda of does). its something i always wanted to do. its just was a decision that i'm wieghing but its clear now that i should wait. thanks

I was enlisted in the Army Infantry for 5 years after high school. I got out a few years ago and have been using the GI Bill to go to school ever since. I'm going to go back as an officer after I graduate, because that's where the money and respect is. Dropping out of college to enlist is a joke bro, don't do it. Enlisted get treated and paid like shit. Just my two cents.
Bro good on ya for wanting to join. It is really a commitment and life changing decision. Air Force would def be my recommendation, and as an enlisted person I would say do the school for two more years and become an officer. Way more advantages and you don't get treated like a 12 year old all the time like us enlisted folks. Plus a first year lieutenant makes more money than a six year sergeant. I can tell you if I had the opportunity to go back and join as an officer I would do it in a heartbeat! If you have any questions feel free to ask bro!
i think i will join NROTC. that way i get to finish school and join. its the smartest decision . thanks for the advice
I would say there is pros and cons either way you go here. For example, if you stay in school then you can join as an officer which means a lot more money and respect. However if your not into managing things and people, you may want to join as an enlisted member and be more of a grunt worker. Some people prefer that type of work. Plus you could finish school on the side while getting it paid for. In this type of economy, I would be screwed right now without the military. Good luck with your decision!
yea this economy is killing me right now, thats why i was thinking about it.
Why do you want to be a Marine?

I want to be a marine because I can, the military will help me learn more and more about myself. u know, i found that i really understand who i am when shit hits the fan for me, this is why i workout. its a way for me to explore pain and see how far i can take it, its how i get stronger. this is why i want to be a marine , i want a physical challenge.some these videos were hilarious , thanks
