College, second thoughts on my major...
So, I get out of the military in Oct. 2012, so I wont be in school until 2013. For a long time, I thought I wanted my major to be Kinesiology, because I love nutrition and fitness so much. But lately ive been having second thoughts...
Problem is, besides Kinesiology, I dont know what else I could major in. What else I am really passionate about. Truth is...nothing really. I love working out, I love being fit and healthy, I love proper nutrition. I guess im getting these second thoughts because I do want to compete in body building eventually.
Job wise...Im not sure what I'd want to do. Definently not a personal trainer...I cant stand people who cant research and motivate themselves. Plus I cant control their diet. Physical Therapy...mmeh, doesnt sound interesting enough, and I cant really see myself being 250lbs+ being a physical therapist.
I honestly dont know...Obviously I want a good job after college, and to be honest, jobs with kinesiology just dont sound interesting enough. The knowledge is beyond interesting, but the jobs dont sound too hot.
I still have a while to really choose. And they say college students change their major at least 9 times, so I guess im SOL until I really find what I want in my career.
Any thoughts guys and grrls? I guess I need to really broaden my horizons a bit (guess thats what college will do i hope).

I'm going for physical therapy-high school girls only,no old people allowed, those are my rules.
I have more then a few friends that got bachelor's degrees in business and economics and can't find any jobs in their fields. On the other hand I have a good friend who got his bachelors in geology and is making dam near 6 figures right out of college working for an oil company. So my advise is to get a job that can translate into oil field work.
AnonI started off in Commerce. Switched to Biochemistry with a concentration in Food Science, got a masters in human kinetics.
I love what I do now, but no doubt about it College is a bitch. You need to take something you're going to love or else loose motivation quickly.
AnonLook into a technical trade, pay is very high and you don't have huge debt at the end.
Plus you would be super smart, and be able to do really cool stuff for yourself.
changing majors 9 times? that sounds really exaggerated. nobody i know changed their major more than once, sounds like a justification to keep you in school longer just like how you have to buy new books every dam semester.
stick with what you know and are passionate about, sounds like kinesiology is a good path for you. what i would do if i were you is double major in kinesiology and business, that way you are empowering yourself with the knowledge of both worlds, one fails then you could fall back on the other or use them both to your advantage e.g. opening you own practice.
to excel outside of college is all about networking. knowing people and building relationships is what will get you far in life.
TxBigBoyBro if you haven't already done your basics then start there, cause like you said everyone ends up changing majors. I suggest just choosing the major you think you want and if you get into it and decide you don't like it just use those classes as your minor. Just start with basics and maybe a couple classes in your major to see if you like it cause trust me even though something sounds cool you might have a totally different opinion after sitting through a couple classes. I changed my major 3 times but luckily all my credits counted cause I didn't get to far into each subject before I realized it wasn't for me or I wanted to do something different.
AnonPre Med biology chemistry
With the way the world is going you're better off dropping out and selling drugs.
Or being a money lender! Or even better drug dealing and money lending, the perfect combo!!
I'll tell you what NOT to major in...because you can forget about a job in an economy that is about to collapse::
PSYCHOLOGY
ART HISTORY
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
ECONOMICS
JOURNALISM
ANY SOCIAL SCIENCE MAJORS
ANY LIBERAL ARTS MAJORS
I would advise hi-tech...engineering....bio tech...cyber tech...etc...
Anyone who thinks this economy isn't going to completely collapse on a global scale is in complete denial. There is no recovery...there never was a recovery, and America is in for a huge wake-up call as this government continues to print and spend fiat (phony) currency. Too many free rides for too many people.
AnonMajoring in Psychology: an excuse to take Gen Ed's for 4 years then get a degree.
AnonReally you don't say.. what makes you such an expert in psychology degrees?
tread-mI don't do politics much here but thats spot on...never was a recovery and too many free rides!
tread-mYou can go into healtbh science and even find specifics within health science that interest you. A lot of options coming out as to direction. Doc, PA, CLS,..many options which include staying with your health science degree making a nice living if you don't aspire to go further. Just leaves the door open and those degree's will allow you to live anywhere you choose at any time being in high demand at all times. Yes, as Erik said, you will major bio or chem as a rule 2 years before entering health science to finsih your degree. Its a tough degree program as compared to basic but more opportunity IMO.
AnonPhysician assistant ...is the new doctor
Health Science then you have plenty of options. You could be a 250lbs+ chiropractor!
tread-mOr go anywhere from there, my daughter has a health science degree making really good money as she weighs her options to move forward...great advise!
Thank you sir!
