As you know one of the problems of being sick for a bodybuilder is the loss of appetite and consequent unintentional loss of weight and muscle mass.

Maintaining an eating schedule is paramount to counter this problem. Ensuring calorie intake will be the most important factor in keeping muscle, as illnesses usually incapacitate their victims and deprive them of what they need most- proper nutrition.

Your eating schedule should be broken into small meals per day rather than 3-4 typical big meals. The benefits of doing this include:

  • Increase in metabolism thus increase appetite
  • being able to compromise poor appetite by eating smaller and lighter meals.

Types of foods which are key to those suffering a loss of appetite are usually natural and soft:

  • Bananas are known to be easily digestible containing 100 calories
  • If you lack any interest food, a morning smoothie we a few hundred calories from whole fruits and milk

  • Weight gainers are good to boost your calorie intake that maybe lowered due to illness

High calorie liquids such as cranberry juice and grape juice along with cereals, shakes, and soups, can provide the energy and calories needed.

And remember, visiting the gym whilst your ill will only delay your recovery and is inconsiderate towards your gym bro's and sister's. Stay home, keep warm, sleep and eat!!
