+ 1 How to choose the right gym shoes for lifting
I some times see gym goers wear flat shoes to run or air bubble sneakers to squat. Some people just don't care, but they don't realise that this can cause serious injury.
Weight lifting -
Very few gyms allow us to go bare foot, which in my opinion is rather dangerous. When lifting it is important that you have a firm, flat grip on the ground. This ensures proper form and that your stance offers you a safe grip — especially important if you are lifting heavy.
The best thing would be to get your self a pair of olympic weight lifting shoes such as the Adidas Adistar:
- they help you lift more weight
- less of the force being generated by your legs is being absorbed by "floppy" shoes
- It sets you up to be in the right positions in BOTH the start and the finish of the lifts
- You can squat far more upright with them, which results in less torque on the lower back
The problem is such specialised gym shoes can be costly, but there are alternatives:
-
Minimilist shoes such as the 5 finger bare foot looking ones are known to be good for lifting

Believe or not I personally find converses suitable for lifting, thanks to its flat soles

Olympic Weightlifting shoes. I have found they help on just about everything but mainly lower body lifts. They make it easier to balance and keep proper form. I never deadlift or squat without them. They are awesome. Even on flat bench i find the elevation of the heel on the shoe makes it easier to incorporate your body and keep strict form. For cardio I just use basic running shoes, couldn't catch me dead wearing those toe shoes lol
AnonConverse chuck taylors best ever shoe for lifting !!!
i wear sandals to the gym bro

nike romaleos 2 the ones i am looking at
I own a pair of 5 finger shoes for deads and squat days and a pair of saucony for all other days and jogging.
Are the 5 fingers shoes in you opinion better than the flat sole shoes?
I think so. The komodo version I have has a slightly more built up sole cause and gives a lot of traction for when I have to dig in and put a shit ton of force through my heels. I am very picky when it comes to shoes and what I liked about vibram is that they are sized by the cm instead of U.S. shoe sizes so you can get a true fit to your foot. It does take a little getting used to wiggling your toes into their little spots, but once you break em in it is awesome. They even sell 5it finger socks so you dont get bad foot odor built up in the shoe. That is my .02
