Does lifiting increase the risk of arthritis?
ad
All over the place I read about people who are morbidly obese ending up with Osteoarthritis, which in laymans terms is worn out joints due to carrying the excess weight.
Now I'm sat here looking at a photo of Big Ron leg pressing weights which would probably amount to the weight of 20 fat people and wondering how the hell this all goes together with the above.
I know very few of us are pressing big ron size weights but are we putting ourselves at risk or not?

I've been lifting and bodybuilding for close to 40 years. When I am around mortals and hear them whine and complain about their aches and pains from their sedentary lifestyles.....I have no more pain then the couch potato and can certainly outperform all of them at anything. I don't know any pain free 50 year olds that aren't dead.
i have it in both my hip joints no matter what you do in the gym cardio or anything with legs your going to fill it afterwards period. my doc told me keep doing what im doing in the gym but light weights only on the legs.
repetitive movements of any type cause wearing at the joints. those joints get inflames and arthritic build up occurs. The way to break down arthritis is thru heavy lifting movements...which wears the joints aggravating arthritic promotion. Its a fact of aging. To not have arthritis means doing the movements that caused it. Simple answer is do you wanna be in pain and stiff/not mobile or do you do this for life and keep your mobility? I will lift til I die....
for sure!
