A buddy of mine swears by the affects of going in the sauna after a hard workout. Wondering if there's any benefit of this, or any studies detailing benefits of this procedure.

RustyhookerSoreness, recovery, and general health. Many case studies. Sauna gets blood flowing so everything surrounding that is sped up. Nutrient delivery, acid reduction etc. Stretching in sauna after also helps. Virus, cold, flu live in very specific temperature as well and your body raises temp to fight em off. Sauna...body is held above normal while youre in there. Hydrate though....you pour off sweat and electrolyte balance and fluids in general are keys
I just couldn't handle one of those after training no way, I feel drained and dehydrated enough already lol Would make me feel ill.
There are studies on saunas working to help muscle soreness/recovery. These are normally done with cold tubs as well. The drastic changed in temp from hot sauna to cold water helps with inflammation
My buddy installed a sauna in his new garage. We sauna at least a couple nights a week. I have found it to greatly reduce doms. He has a horsetank filled with water that we go in a few times during the sauna. The hot and then cold shock is what really does it I believe. Sweats out all the toxins in your skin which is a plus also. I also wore my heart rate monitor in there to see what effect it was having. Had me up into the 120+ range once I started sweating good. Good cardio and all I have to do is just sit there soak in the heat and sweat. That is my kind of cardio.
For looks: Yes. I believe saunas help us shed unwanted fat & water QUICKLY.
But the overall health: I honestly don’t know if saunas are good or bad in the long run.
From my experience I think it definitely has it's benefits, Scandinavian countries swear by it. I've always found it to provide more of a relief to sinus / congestion issues than anything else, but zoning out in there for ~15 mins will certainly relax your body and mind anyway.
But as others stated, depending on who else is in there it can be a health hazard. Huddled in close together in a small wooden room, heavy breathing with all the bodily fluids seeping out. Always fun.
Personally find more relief in doing a non-intensive swim in the gym pool after a hard session, dunking myself in cold water does it more for me.
TricepatopsIt all depends, for some with health problems sauna can be dangerous. I find public saunas to be sorta nasty and don't like sitting in naked guys ball and ass sweat.
Right. Also wouldn't you want to reduce inflammation afterwards? Seems like a cold dip would be better.
purely a feeling from my opinion but its fucking amazing...i already sweat like an Italian peeling an orange so its nice to get a roast going for 10-15 min... coming out of there it is so refreshing.
