Row Row Row your boat

ad

Recently I've come across some literature describing injuries associated with various types of rows. For example the one-arm, bent over dumbell row, and upright rows. With the bent over, the risk was associated with hernia, in the upper groin. With upright, it was recurring shoulder pain. Has anyone had any of these types of injuries from these old school exercises?

Do upright rows so heavy they turn to cheat shrugs bro (:

Seriously though there's risk of injury with every exercise there is, and everybody is different. Just try it out and see how it feels.

There is risk of injury in any exercise. Do what works best for you and your goals

You can get a hernia from just sneezing. Not a fan of upright rows anyway.

Yeah like press1 said, you are very unlikely to get a.hernia.from rows. The only way I see that possibly happening is if you are going super heavy on bent over rows and are in a weird position where your trying to like balence the weight and partially standing upright almost in a partially complete deadlift position while doing the rows.

With bent over barbell rows you are more likely to tear a bicep especially if using straps, than get a hernia or groin problems. But you would have to be going very heavy and be pulling underarm to do it. Upright rows I wouldn't bother with - there are much better more natural & effective exercises for traps and shoulders. Pretty much all the guys I have known who have got hernias were doing Deads without a belt, so invest in a good 3" 10mm belt. I have a 13mm but it can be too restrictive at times.

I’m sure it you google “blank exercise” and “injury” you will get a hit for anything you can think of.
