Separated AC-Joint doing Inclined Bench Press...?
Going fairly heavy two days ago (275), I failed on rep five. It came down on upper chest under control. No one noticed for a minute or so. During that time I felt a pretty strong pull across inner front delt. Later it hurt. Next day I was at gym doing traps lats biceps and I felt the spot where the clavicle (collar bone) meets acromion process and the distal end of clavicle is elevated about 3/4". Buddys at gym could see a distinct difference from the other shoulder.
Its sore to the touch and if I push on the high spot where the bone protrudes upwards, it flexes up and down. I called urgent care and explained. I asked if I should go there or E.R. They said to come on in. Nurse looked at it after 90 minute wait, spoke to Doctor, then told me its dislocated so I need to go to ER where they can "pop it back in place."
Jerks should've told me that over the phone.
Anyone have experience with this?
I came home to eat but will go to ER shortly.

Here's the XRay

Is this what you've got? I don't think you can pop these back in. I did one when I was a teen and the Docs just let it heal on its own,
I think so. Did they tell you it was a dislocated AC Joint? It looks like yours got pushed outward toward your should whereas mine juts more upward, but juts gotta be the same thing.
That said some get surgery; some don't, depending on the degree of separation. I got XRay on disc to show my Ortho and a definitive treatment plan should emerge at that time.
Did it, and does it ever affect you?
Thanks
That pic is from a mtn bike forum, not me.
I did not do anything about mine, it was 30 years ago.
The just called it a shoulder separation and did not even mention surgery as an option. It does not affect me in any way now, and looks almost normal now.
I would discuss with your ortho, but don't stress over it too much. No need to go to ER.
P.S.: after looking at your stats I was very doubtful that this little dude's photo was you!
Lol
I went to the ER.
It's a commitment I made to myself recently:
Get hurt, abone appears to be out of place, pain, loss of range of motion, etc?
Go to the doctor!
Need XRay and other diagnostic tools not available at regular doctor?
Go to the ER!
Lol
As I age, it's become increasingly important to me to not be a stoic hero or overly rely on self diagnostics so that I can ensure a continuation of my training and the quality of life it brings--I ain't no bullet proof kid no more!
It's a dislocated AC joint as I thought.
Depending on the degree of separation and the amount of damage to the ligament which holds the two structures together, they either suggest rest, or surgery. The ER Doctor said mine seems to fall in between and my Ortho will decide if it needs surgery. I already have an upcoming MRI for pre-existing problems with the rotator cuff/bursa or whatever is causing pain and loss pelf ROM for which I'm riding the wave of a second cortisone injection into the joint capsule [the first one by the way, was like a miracle. It set my shoulder back 30+ years. Before it, for a couple months I could hardly lift overhead at all, even the bar on my back for squatting was excruciating (I had to force my left humerus into hyper external rotation after each set until something in the rear part of the joint seemed to slip/PPP back into its groove), and sleeping was hell]. So with the XRay the ER gave me on disc, plus the imagining studies from the MRI, a definitive treatment plan should emerge.
Meantime, I'm gonna baby it like I have been. ;-)
...right.
Chiropractor took carenof mine. Cheaper than the ER.
Thanks bro. I've gotten pretty conservative regArding medical care over the years. After seeing chiropractors who claimed to be able to cure anything from deafness to the clap by back-cracking, I ended up fairly effed up by putting off "real" medical care due to trusting the Chiropractors I knew.
I don't mean to disagree with you, your experience is your experience and thus valid. I just feel better after having begun this process with conventional Western Medicine. Notwithstanding the fact that a chiropractor helped me immensely to regain movement in my entire right arm in early nineties after sustaining 12 broken bones after having been run over by a Toyota, I saw the regular docs first, and went to him for Sports Medicine Physical Therapy three times a week for a year.
You could pop it back in yourself... Save the trip to the ER.
Or have medical professionals do it. Either way it can be done.
Yeah right,
It means a helluva lot to me to take care of myself the best I can to continue to be able to workout as long as I can, so I'm getting proper medical attention. What if there's more to it? Clint Eastwood movies aren't what I consult when injured.
:-) Lol
Cmon man, mad Mel bustin out of that straight jacket in lethal weapon didn't teach you anything? Lol
Yeah!
That's the one I couldn't think of!
Lol!
That's some ignorant fictional shit which
should have the disclaimer, "Do Not Try This At Home!"
Ouch buddy! Hope you heal up fast!
