Backs is a large muscle... reps in the range of 14-16 are more effective than lower reps 6-8.. thought I would add that

I keep my exercise selection pretty basic for back and it has worked great for me. This is my typical workout

Warm up
3 x 8-10 Barbell row
3 x 8-10 Hammer strength lat pull downs. The type dorian always used, and because my gym doesn't have the normal kind
3 x 10-12 t bar row
3 x 12-15 single arm lat pull downs.
3x 10-12 hyper extensions

The only other exercises I use besides these is 1 arm dumbbell rows, and this hammer strength row machine and my back is my best body part. I always used to do a lot of deadlifts when I first started but I tore injured a disc in my back (not related to lifting) and haven't done them since.

And I also do my rear delt work and traps on back day
4 x 10-12 of either face pulls, dumbbell rear delt raises, or reverse cable fly
3 x 10-12 dumbell shrugs
3 x 10-12 reverse barbell shrugs

When I work back, well any muscle group I like to focus on one section of the muscle at a time. Example, Tuesday night back work out went like this...

50 wide grip chins.... as many as possible at a time.. usually 15
4 sets wide grip lat pull downs
2 set close grip lat pull downs

4 set bent over barbell row
4 set seated cable row
4 set t-bar row

4 set straight leg dead lift
2 set hyper extension machine *aka dead lift machine

Start from top of back and work done ward...

I found switching attachments, length of your grips, angle of motion all make the exercise more effective, if you list to your muscle and do proper form.

machine pullovers or straight arm pull downs 4 sets 8-12
barbell rows 4 sets 8-12
reverse lattpulldown 4 sets 8-12
seated cable rows 4 sets 8-12
deadlifts 4 sets 6-8

Rows and pullovers are kings for Wing development!...You can alternate Barbell rows with dumbell one arm rows every other workout for variety!

I never really like reverse lat pull down, I've found it to be very unnatural motion.

any time

Anything with pull down machine or cable, chin ups, T Bar and dumbbell Raw at an angle to work the lower lat better.

Pretty easy, one rowing exercise, one pulling exercise, rear delt work and deadlifts.
Lots of weight, progressive overload and good frequency (2-3 times a week).
