Layne Norton's PHAT Routine

What are your personal opinions on Layne Norton's PHAT routine?

It consists of 2 power days one for upper body and lower, and 3 hypertrophy days which obviously are higher reps. Just curious on your thoughts about this routine and if any of you are on it?

tried this for 8 weeks. Squat and DL went up somewhat significantly (10-15lbs each) but body size and hardness made little improvement and actually stalled because even at 250mg Test/week I could sense overtraining was very close if not present.

Its been hard to transition back to my normal training program. I still want to do power sets.

Really all you need to do to gain size is the following:

1) Eat enough - 1.5g x bw in protein and enough cals to gain
2) Adequate volume - you need to degrade enough protein to induce hypertrophy
3) Get stronger - strength is the limiting factor in hypertrophy

You don't need to do layne's routine, it's what works for HIM, that's what he feels works best for him. He genuinely believes undulating periodization is the best form of training. He simply believes in his routine.

I've tried layne's routine, and I personally prefer a 5 day split better where i'm doing 6-12 sets per body part. There are a lot of high level natural bodybuilders (better than norton) who also use 5 day splits, so they work just fine....

Started it today, it's psychologically so freeing to do a completely new workout and new approach especially if you've been lifting the same way or same split for many years.

It's a bit intense, so go light the first week to make sure you don't overtrain yourself and then catch a cold.

Yeah I'm going to start this next week after the new year. On week 3 of a 12 week teste/deca cycle so thought it would be a good time to try something this intensive.
