how often do you guys break froom the gym?
ad
I have been busting in my ass in the gym hard for a while now without a break. I am starting to wonder if I should give my body a break for a week or two. Maybe do just cardio and lay off the weights? I did a very light back workout today and I just felt tired/sluggish the whole time. I did 3 sets of pullups, 4 sets of cable rows, 5 sets of db shrugs, 3 sets of lat pulldow, 2 sets each arm for single arm rows and I was pretty damn tired. Tried to finish with abs and did 10 minutes on eliptical after that. What do you guys think?

I take at least 2 days off in a week to recover and take full 1 week breaks every 4 months or so . I also try to get in light weeks once a month where I do half the weight and increase the reps.
always good to take rest time, maybe a day or two a week if your body is telling you it need a break its probably a good time to take one.
I go sometimes 5 to 6 times a week.when I over train I definitely feel it.listen to your body.I see nothing wrong taking time off to fully recover and come back fresher and more motivated than ever.there is no feeling like being fully motivated, rested and full of energy giving your best and all out.
I tend to go to the gym 3-4 days a week. I try to go hard. Every couple of weeks I go there and after about two exercise sets I just give up because I suck. I will say in general, this demotivates me very bad, but normally one of my workouts within a week after this break is one of my best ones of all time. Just listen to the body. If you go and can't do it, don't do it. just make sure to stay committed to going back.
I take a day off a week bro, helps a ton
1jakd_hipyI take days off as my body tells me. It's a bit easier to know in the powerlifting world cause I max each week in some way or another and if my performance is sub par I call it a day
Just flat take a week off. Full relax...good carbs. Relax. A week off and your lifts etc will take a Nice jump up. Gotta recharge sometimes.
Anon^^^^this. no cardio or exercise for a week. focus on complex carbs and well balanced meal, and let your body recover. you might even be amazed at the boost in energy during this time and strength afterwards.
listen to your body man...rest is actually more important than working out. in September, I took about 2-3 weeks off and came back to the gym with a vengeance...actually got a lil' stronger taking a break...WTF?!?!?! LOL
Anyway...and LAST year around Halloween, I also took about 10-14 days off. I take about 2-4 weeks off per year and it helps me out a ton. Give the joints, ligaments and tendons some needed recuperation/recovery.
That's a decent lil' back workout there...how much rest between sets?
Anontry not to take very long between sets. It mostly depends on the reps and weight being used and wat i am going for. Today I just wanted a quick pump so I did anywhere from 10-15 reps (not on pull-ups, for some reason after a set of 10 I always get less reps the next set)and took about 1 to 1.5 minutes between sets. I usually do anywhere from 9-12 workouts on back days and 3-5 sets per excercise and incorporate drop sets on 2 or 3 excercises as well. Seems to work very good but I was just out of it today
sounds ideal man...I do about the same logic with my set breaks and rep schemes. Yeah...get some rest, LOL.
Anonlol will do bro thanks for the advice

I only workout 3-4 days/wk. even on-cycle...maybe an hour tops weight training and I get great results. I think we have discussed something like this before about doods training 2-a-days and 5-6 days/wk. on-cycle or not. Me personally, I just don't believe it...for ONE, I am not attempting to hit the Olympia stage or the Strongest Man Comp though...so things are different in that circumstance, as well as I am not running seven hundred compounds at hella doses, peptides, slin, and GH altogether ;-P
I take days off per week as my body tells me I need rest. If I go three days in a row, I begin to feel drained/tired...intensity falls, etc. But as I said above, I always take multiple weeks off at some point in the year as well. I think this year my time off might be this late summer some point...August'ish because I am planning on running out till then, but I don't discuss things like that in the open here.
Anonyes we have. i am with you on the training frequency and importance of taking rest periods. i typically workout 5 days a week when strength training, bc i like to split up my muscle groups. i keep the duration around 45-60 tops. lately i have been going twice a day, only for the purpose of doing cardio in the am. trying to drop that bf, but i can't see myself doing 45 min strength then 45 cardio in one session.
i am having to take a couple days off at the moment and adjust my diet. yesterday i noticed that it was starting to take its toll on me energy level wise.
