How do you get yourself back in the game

ad

I just want to take a moment to thank the members on eroids for all the knowledge and wisdom I've gotten from you guys in the past few years.

When I was younger you guys told me to take some time to do my research, gain as much as I can with a good diet and workout routine. And safe the sauce for a few years. I'm really grateful I did. And I've been able to help alot of my uneducated gym buddies.

So with all that being said last year I got fucked up at work trauma to my neck 5 herniated disc 1 in neck 1 in mid back and 3 in lower back. Bunch of nerve pain bunch of Dr visits and now I'm on my way back to the gym after a bunch of pain meds and physical therapy.

I'm gonna be honest now I'm a fat fuck. All this shit kept me from the gym which has always been my number one therapy. Now that I'm cleared to go back I instantly want to be cut and strong and not a fat fuck anymore. But all the info I got from you guys keeps me telling myself diet diet diet. But I'm having a hard time with it.

The meds they had me on made me super depressed and it's been really hard to kick myself back on track. So right now I'm just seeing if anyone else has had an experience like this and what you did to help get yourself out of the house and into the gym. And getting back to eating right.

Hello Sir,

As you understand this is not about knowledge but more about mind game. Main thing here is consistency, don't be one of them guys that says I will start my diet from next Monday or I will start working out next month. If you have decided you need to get in shape, start today not tomorrow, go to the gym right now.
Same time after had such a long break, you can't just start hitting gym twice a day as you will get fed up quick and will more likely fail. So plan it, start with 3 full body workouts a week, so there's not too much stress on your body and mental state while increasing this and maybe adding some cardio somewhere in between. As you already mentioned, diet is the key to success, start paying attention to the labels on the products that you are buying so you are aware of a total calorie intake, this will also help you to recognize the foods that are high in calories that you want avoid. High quality foods in measured amounts is the key to success.
Take one step at a time, if you start working out 7 times a week and will stick to super strict diet you will more likely burn out and fail, get your body and mind a chance to adapt to the changes.
Now the actual motivation factor, I like to use my anger, my animal instincts to motivate myself when needed. I try to remember all the people that might have upset me in the past one way or another and now I want to show/prove them that I am the strongest animal on the planet, I work harder, I lift more, run faster and longer, I can restrict myself from unnecessary foods, I am different than anyone else and I am better than anyone else.
I guess everyone has their own way to motivate themselves but this works for me quite well.
Think I got too excited lol
I am getting ready for the competition myself so I am quite sensitive to this subject.
Hope this helps at least a bit.

Regards

One day at a time. Make small goals like this week I am going to lose 3 lbs. Don't set yourself up for failure with a huge goal of like I'm going to be the biggest and leanest guy in the gym.

I know that saying very well. One lb at a time I suppose. One plate at a time, one meal at a time. I guess I gotta keep it simple.

Like bioscience told you, don't ask yourself if you want to go to the gym? Regardless of your thoughts, put your underwear on, socks, pants and shirt. Listen to music and go to gym! or walk and walk and walk some more. It clears your thinking. If your thoughts are controlling you, stay
busy. Cleaning, walking, reading. Ignore the bad thoughts and don't react to them. Simply wait and better thoughts will come. Set simple goals each day like making my bed every single day. Put one foot in front of the other.

There is no complex answer nor magic pill. You just have to do it. The resolve to take action regardless of how you "feel" is always essential toward success.

To help combat this depressive sluggishness. I would recommend becoming active in locking down your diet. Remember that you have control over everything that you put in your mouth (no homo). Make a shopping list and prep your food so it becomes routine and a no brainer. Make it simple for yourself

Another helpful trick is get up early and do some stretching and cardio first thing in the morning. Enough to get a good sweat, raise the heart rate, and get the blood pumping. This will give you energy, oxygenate the blood, and raise the metabolism throughout the day.

Also another big help Ive found in recovery and in keeping my proper spinal alignment is daily inversion. Not sure if you utilize this technique but Ive found it to be invaluable.

Thanks man. I just started dialing the diet in, and have been waking up a half hour early to do some yoga which has me feeling gay but fuck it, it works really well. And I have an inversion table it's still packed up just moved a month ago so still haven't found a place to put it yet. The women won't let me just put it in the living room, I told her I could watch porn upside down while she blew me, she didn't like my idea lol

Time for a new women.

First off put your table where ever you need it. Making demands that compromise the healing process of an injured man is in my opinion, real weak.

Plus you wouldn't be saying yoga is gay when you are at a proper studio surrounded by hotties in yoga pants. Certainly helps with depression

It’s always a cycle bro, downward or upward it’s up to you. I’d recommend some low impact cardio like elliptical or swimming (if it’s cleared by your doc) and cleaning up your diet. You’ll be amazed how motivating a little progress can be. Excellent nutrition advice here on the boards.
Wishing you the best of luck! I’m battling 3 herniated disks pressing on nerves in my L5 as well. Hoping to get back to ripping 5 plate deadlifts soon though brother! Take care

Thanks brotha I appreciate it. Doc cleared me for low impact cardio and light weight just nothing over my head. The ego has me hard tho is hard for me to not have a bar on my back when squatting. But I'll you what tho physical therapy, chiropractor, accupuncture and a good ole rub n tug do the trick for them herniated disks lol good luck
