The C word

ad

Im sure most of us here try to keep our diet on point and go to great lengths to make sure everything that passes our lips is doing us good and benificial in muscle growth.

One thing i've overlooked and has recently come to my attention is cortisol. Specifically cortisol production from drinking coffee.

I am a regular coffee drinker in that by noon i'll have about 3 coffees from across the office to keep me the way I am at work. I heard something about cortisol and fat retention and catabolism and did some reading online. Turns out it's not so much the caffeine that spikes cortisol, but more the organic acids in coffee beans that do this.

So im thinking maybe it's time to cut coffee outta my diet alltogether. IS this overkill?

Coffee is ok in small doses 1 think you should only do 1 8oz cup a day just as a pick me up the acids can assists in breakdown of muscle fibers(catabolism). But IMO i think if in the morning you are waking up from fasting hitting some BCAA's to hit your muscles ASAP and awken them for slumber and get them anabolic again. Then you are ok for a cup of coffee with your oats and eggs ect.

I avoid coffee for numerous reasons and have found that caffeine pills do the trick without any of the negative sides of coffee. I don't believe coffee is a make or break for your diet by any means though. I say explore other options and if you can't find a better alternative, just try to cut it back a little.

Glad you posted this, you got me thinking. I drink coffee all day and night, now I'm switching to green tea. Hope this helps
