good gains with poor diet

ad

im somewhere between an ectomorph and mesoporh. i have some dificulty gaining weight and keeping it. I am borderline hyperthyroid though. i keep a close eye on it. when i am on cycle I pretty much eat anything i want to eat whenever i want to eat. i have no set rules for intra cycle diet, just eat eat eat. I do have very strict supplement guidelines though. funny thing is I dont put any fat on during cycle. i get well over 5000 calories of not great food and still stay lean as hell. does anyone else experience this as well. i know i should focus on eating healthy during cycle. I did eat a very strict diet for years. I ate a whole foods paleo diet for several years. i had no dairy at all in my diet. no beef, milk, cheese, or such. i gave up that diet, i couldnt gain and i never got the right carbs so i always felt run down.

since i pretty much eat what i feel like eating now, i feel better and gain better.
I dont eat candy, or junk food though.

Everyone responds different. What works for one guy may overtrain another. I say stick with what you find works best for YOU.

If you can eat what you want and get away without putting on fat then go with it. I do the same thing with a combo of "good" food choices along with "bad" to make up for the calories/protein/carbs that I am looking to get in daily. Every meal does not have to be pizza, ice cream, sushi, etc but more of a balance. Make sure you are getting proper vitamins, etc from good food. This has worked for me and then when I want to get a more defined look I will eliminate the junk food.

There are several guys on here that will run what's called a dirty bulk. Basically you just shoot for a set number of calories per day and eat whatever you want, within reason I would think. A nutritionist will tell you that all calories are not created equal. But there are many scientist who simply look at a calorie as a unit of energy and believe a calorie is a calorie no matter how you look at it. It ultimately comes down to how efficiently your body is able to utilize what you take in. If your plan of action is bringing about the results you want, then go with it. Just don't neglect your overall health. Keep an eye on blood sugar, cholesterol, vitamin and mineral levels etc.
