Are weight gaining shakes an acceptable way to get 4000 cals?
ad
First cycle and finding it a bit hard to get 4000 cals a day. Are weight gaining shakes an acceptable way to get the calories i need? Or are they filled with a bunch of stuff i wouldn't want / need? Maybe throw one of those shakes in a day to get that extra bump?
Thanks guys

Old thread, but I'm in the same boat. But I found a pretty good site that helped me find what was easier for me on diet. I don't always have time with work and school, plus father at home. Try eatthismuch.com and plug in your numbers.
Food first then shakes. Do what you can handle as a daily routine for your body to get used to
food is always better but, if you need to get calories in.. do whatever it takes... when i was in high school i used weight gainers.. i had no choice back then.. it worked but also got a little chunky from it ,..
Mr KfizzleI've been there at trying to get 5000 calories a day and you just gotta eat man! Shakes will work but you get bloated and or constipated bad! Here's a few quick and easy things just to help. Take cottage cheese and eat a thing of that throughout day it's cheap and loaded with protein! Also a jar of peanut butter just eat it by the tablespoon throughout the day wash it down with a glass of milk. I'm guessing if your needing that many calories your a hard gainer so a lil fat your metabolism can handle. Hell I start my day off with a large little cesars $5 cheese pizza Haha 250 Cal / 12g protein per slice at 8 slices. Not saying you should do that but it works for me pretty well. When you do have a protein shake a blender is best and u can throw all kinds of shit together!
Protein powder
Oats xx2
2 tbsp PB
1 C 2% milk
Banana
880 kcals, blend and drink post workout then Eat a meal an 1hr after.
Try eating 1000 kcals at breakfast
5 whole eggs, 2 whites
Whole wheat pancake w/ blueberries & granola
slice of whole wheat bread
Apple
1 C 2% milk
1060 Kcals
Eat like a fucking viking!
Real food is better, but shakes will help you if you can't physically reach your 4000 calorie goal. Try blending oats in your protein shake if you want some extra calories cheap and healthy. Hope I helped
waltrWhat are you presently eating on a daily basis?
4000 isn't so hard, 5000 takes some cheat foods in my opinion
In a nutshell ( and im not very good at this yet )
Steel cut oats w/ banana, peanut butter sometimes honey
Apple
Chobani yogurt
3 slices of pork roast ( this week ) with broccoli
protein bar
Chicken with brown rice ( throw in a yam from time to time )
Protein shake
Pistachios or almonds
Protein shake before workout.
Chicken with rice and veggie or substitute pork roast or loins
That's about it. I've been trying to look at meal plans and mimic them ( with food i like ). Thought that if i were able to throw in a weight gain shake it might help.
Any help would be cool.
waltrJust adding a cup of oats to your protein shakes and maybe some pb would probably make you hit the 4000 range. Also substituting red meat for the pork could bump the calories up.
The problem I have with weight gainer supplements they sell is that they tend to have higher sugar contents than I personally like, and they're overpriced. It's more cost effective to make your own with oats/pb/eggs (or egg whites if you want to go low fat).
Eggs / egg whites - good idea
Just add some steel cut oats into my protein shakes? Interesting, never really thought of that! Thanks for the all the help.
Do you guys pre-cook your eggs for breakfast during the week? Or is that something you do every morning? Would they keep that long?
waltrI cook them every morning, but I wake up around 5 AM every day.
