Oral EDTA chelation...?
Hello gents,
I was curious if anyone had any experience with using oral ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid, or EDTA for its chelating properties. EDTA is a chelating agent that, put simply, binds to heavy metals and minerals in your body, and then you piss them out. I heard Dave Crosland briefly mention this in a podcast after running a cycle to clear out any heavy metals that may accumulate from running UGL gear. Crosland has been using steroids for about 20 years and now trains, helps with contest prep, and runs a lab for blood testing other athletes/bodybuilders. Also known as the guy with the biggest biceps in Britain. Although I always take everything with a grain of salt in this area, him mentioning it got me interested. After doing some digging on the internet, I still don't feel like I have a solid understanding of EDTA. Though it is used intravenously, and even FDA approved for lead poisoning, I can't find studies on the oral usage of it, though I see positive references to them.....not to mention the IV chelation is not cheap at all. Although there are claims(often from those selling IV chelation) that oral EDTA is completely ineffective, there ARE tons of anecdotal reports of it working orally, though I gather it is only ~5-10% as effective, gram for gram. There are plenty of anecdotal reports of people clearing calcium plaque out of arteries and vessels with it, improving heart function, lowering cholesterol and BP, etc. As we know in the world of anabolic steroids, science doesn't yet know everything, especially if they've never specifically studied it, and mainstream medicine honestly can't be trusted all the time. Some of the other points I have gathered upon looking into it are:
-Needs to be used for at least 6 weeks when used orally, and other necessary minerals(magnesium, zinc, etc.) should be supplemented when using it, as it doesn't discriminate on what it chelates.
-should not be used in high doses by anyone with kidney problems, but then again, neither should AAS, and that's the angle I'm looking at it from.
-removes accumulated toxic metals, such as mercury, lead, arsenic, etc.
-has saved people from needing a coronary bypass surgery by "cleaning out" the heart
I could keep babbling, but I assume if anyone has used it, they will have some input, which would be greatly appreciated. I want to try it out but don't quite feel safe to pull the trigger yet. If anyone else becomes interested and does some digging, anything interesting you find that I haven't covered would be greatly appreciated!
