What are your BEST or EGREGIOUS macro hacks
ad
I'm deep in a year long cut, and trying to think outside the box for all things diet related. I want to hear what your guys favorite "hacks" or whatever are for Carbs and Fiber especially. We all know how to down protein theres no secret in that, I want to hear how y'all get your 500g of carbs in, 100g of fiber where do you find the most DENSE ratios at. Give me your tasty ideas then give me your down right wrong ones but work.
My unethical one has been downing sugar free syrup pre workout getting 5g of carbs per 10 cals is killer. I crush abunch of keto bread french toast daily for about 9g of fiber per slice.

I keep it pretty simple. Most of my carbs come from rice, oats, potatoes, and fruit. For fiber, I eat plenty of vegetables and berries, especially raspberries.
In summer, watermelon and fruit ice pops are my go-to when I want something sweet and refreshing --
But 100g of fiber a day? That would definitely be too much for me --
Im addicted to haribo gummy bears, especially while on tren for some reason. I can smell the dextrose in them
Jasmine rice in rice cooker. Keep it on warm and dive in when you need it. I mix a little cottage cheese, soy sauce, hot sauce, or mustard depending on the mood. I would be lying if I said I’m consistent with carb intake as I don’t enjoy it. I tend to fill up more on fats.
How do you prevent the rice on the bottom from burning when having it on keep warm? That’s the only reason I throw mine in the fridge
Pasta, rice, taters, oatmeal mostly. Then some from veggies and fruits. Broccoli, carrots, peas, corn, green beans for veggies. Mostly berries for fruits.
Btw keep in mind there’s 4 calories per 1 gram of carbs. That 10 calories of syrup is sounding more like 20.
reminds me when my gf was smashing tictacs and I'm like "that's a lot of sugar babe"
"no it's not! it's zero calories" had to inform her that under 5 calories (per tictac) FDA doesn't require them to report it. Multiply that by 100 and it's a lot of "zero calories" lol
Jrihard89Taters! People forget how tasty some gold potatoes baked are! Little pink salt, little spritz of butter spray. Good stuff
Indeed. Love me some baked sweet potatoes too.
Damn I knew smuckers was scamming me
I think there can be up to a 20% discrepancy in amounts as well so maybe you’re close to being right? Lol.
@Jrihard89 already dropped a solid idea.
Honestly bro, if you can’t eat that much, the only real move is increasing food density. Some guys need the carbs because they feel flat, low energy, glycogen depleted … especially when training hard in a growth phase. Off-season is literally: eat, train, recover, repeat.
My approach is pretty old school. I’d rather have a short, repeatable menu and execute it daily than try to be overly flexible and never fully dialed in for the goal of the season.
The food shapes the physique. Training directs it. Gear just multiplies the signal.
Eating clean is mandatory in my opinion — unless you’re genetically built like Lee Priest or Ronnie and can stay shredded on donuts LMAO. Even then, for health reasons, clean food wins long term. Junk food should be strategic, not the foundation.
Dieting is about sustainability. Pick foods you can tolerate for months. That’s how consistency wins.
Right now I’m finishing a growth phase, last 6 weeks … around 4k calories, 600g carbs. My main carb sources? Rice, oats, boiled potatoes. Boring. Effective.
500g carbs honestly isn’t hard if you can handle volume.
Example:
• 300–350g cooked rice per meal
• 5–6 meals
• 50-80g Add fruit like pineapple for easy digesting carbs
You can layer in oats, egg whites, cream of rice, bagels, even cereal around training. Carbs around workouts hit different when glycogen is being used properly.
For fiber … potatoes, oats, berries, veggies. Keto bread works if digestion tolerates it. Just don’t wreck your gut trying to chase a number.
At the end of the day, diet is tailor-made. Good or bad, there’s no universal blueprint. You build it around what you digest well and can stick to long term.
You got this, brother man. Start where digestion is comfortable, then increase weekly. IMHO, small consistent jumps beat force-feeding and burning out.
Yeah its the caloric restrictions that are killing me. I'm the same way I need everything to be planned out for the week and prepped to be easy going or ill get off track so I often just eat the same meals over and over.
Volume isn't the issue, I can't wait for my first growth phase I can eat like a horse, well thats why i'm in a year+ long cut though is because I bulked for the first 27 years of my life LMFAO.
Appreciate the advice!
Jrihard89When I was growing and couldn’t eat enough carbs. I did the Chris aceto with muffins! Starbucks had my fav ones.
Didn’t do anything special just ate. No hacks no crazy ideas. Just added in a muffin or two carb dense and go on.
Thomas bagels are another thing I loved. Bagels with some spray better or almond butter was phenomenal
That’s actually a solid tip for sure.
Personally, I’d probably go with plain bagels over muffins … just because I still carry that old-school mindset of keeping fats as low as possible, especially around high-carb meals and insulin spikes. Most plain bagels are like under 2g of fat, so it keeps things cleaner in that sense.
That said, I totally get it. Some guys actually grow better when fats are a bit higher, and for them those dense carb + fat combos like muffins can work great. At the end of the day, calories need to go up somehow.
Just curious … how many calories were you pushing back then? What did your macros roughly look like?
And yeah, Chris Aceto is a wizard. The guy really knows how to dial someone in for stage condition. From what I’ve seen, during off-season he gives athletes more flexibility and lets them manage a bit more on their own. I remember when Rafael Brandao was working with him and we talked a bit about that approach.
Either way, phenomenal coach.
Jrihard89So looking at a meal plan for myself (never had a coach I did it all on my own including preps) I was 6’0 242 on this check up with myself and I had my calories set at 4,275. Macros wise beginning at a growth phase OR rebounding off a show, first id set my protein at my goal weight. Now scale isn’t everything in terms of comparing to the mirror for me but if im going into the off season with a goal to get around let’s say 260 from 242 and hold thinking 260 would be ideal I’d set my protein at that weight 1.2g per pound. For me calories going up as I gain weight was the carbs. Next I’d do fats and found .5 per pound of CURRENT weight worked for me. Add that in and the rest be carbs.
I trained at 6-7pm usually always so Meal 1 would be very high protein, low fat, high carb. Every meal from then on until pre training meal would be higher fats and lower ish carb. Ideally carbs based around training and mornings only really.
My biggest fault was I couldn’t really eat after training idk. Training as hard as I did and just as intense low volume in terms of total sets, it fucked me up. So my last meal of the day would be my post workout shake with fast carbs and good fats. I know it fucked me. Not eating a whole meal after training and then going to sleep but it had to be that way.
Big fan of intra workout carbs like karbolyn, and such. With how much carbs I ate pre, intra and post I cheated a little. That’s where the muffins came in pre, the karbolyn intra and post I loved me some gummy bears for 15-20g of fast carbs and then add in some more carbs through potatoes. I could stomach that. Weird eating a baked potato, gummy bears and a protein shake with 60-70g of protein lol
Lack of appetite for a solid meal to reach macros is what lead me to raw egg intake. 1.5 cup muscle egg, 3 whole eggs, powdered beef liver, and powdered peanut butter twice a day for me.
Jrihard89Fair enough! I should look into muscle egg! My issue was back then I was a college kid, I was so fucking broke… LOL I would buy bulk whey at the store in the bins and relabel it hot coco powder because they sold it for like $1.50 a pound. Lol I did whatever I could.
RP4U if you remember them. Ron sponsored a lot of my cycles. I gave him what $$ I could and he would take care of me. He knew I was a poor college kid with dreams of a pro card!
I do remember Ron! That’s awesome he helped out.
When I was in my early 20s I could put it down lol. Ate a ton of chicken (which was so much cheaper 15 years ago). I hated buying whey, it was so overpriced.
If you’re chasing dense carb ratios:
Dextrose is pure carb at 4 kcal per gram. There’s no beating that efficiency.
Cream of rice is predictable, low residue, easy to digest pre-workout.
White rice is controlled and repeatable for higher intakes.
Potatoes win for fullness per calorie because of water volume, not because carbs are different.
All digestible carbs are 4 kcal per gram. The food weight changes because of water.
If you’re actually running 500g carbs, that’s 2,000 kcal from carbs alone. Make sure that’s by design, not just chasing macro math.
On fiber, 30-50g covers health and performance for most people. 100g daily is more of a gut stress test than a hack.
If you want dense fiber without wrecking digestion, berries, oats, chia, psyllium in small doses beat crushing keto bread all day.
Dextrose is a good one, I was doing scoops of it consistency in my protein shakes last year just ran out. I do get scared of the what the instant heap of sugar will do acne wise on blast though.
The 500g carbs 100g fiber was just throwing random numbers out there, I track cals and protein hard on the cut but have been trying to be better about getting more carbs so I can train better.
I have was having trouble meeting my 300 carbs a day. Dextrose 120 cals and 30 grams of carbs in each of my waters was a cheat code.
