Do You Work Out?

ad

I've been on TRT for over a year now, and run the occasional cycle of tren, or deca. Lately people ask me "Do you work out?" It comes from both guys and girls. I was getting my colonoscopy, and 3 nurses and 2 doctors asked me the question, I mean bejeezus, I'm sitting here waiting to get a probe up my nether regions. Yesterday I sign for my TRT shipment from the FedEx guy, and he says "Do you work out?", I say a little, and then he says "Yeah!" and smiles. WTF!

It's like fitness shaming or something, I never heard anyone ask a heavy guy "Do you eat?" I mean yeah, I've put on some mass over the past couple years, and I used to be very fat out of shape guy. I guess I should be glad that my supplements and routine are working good for me.

Just wondered if any other 50+ guys on TRT notice any changes like this where people will come up to you and say "Do you work out?". Over the past couple months it's become a regular thing for me, and I'm not used to it. I guess I could bitch about other things, but I'm old and crotchety.

@ErieToPitt, you're well aware at this point that "loose lips sink ships."

I've gotten loads of comments in the last year that, "dude, you've gotten HUGE! You've been lifting!" Which is hilarious, because my biceps went from 16" to 16.5". So I simply reply, "you'd get huge too if you eat like a horse, lift hard for twenty years, then spend a few years pushing hard while focusing on deadlifts and squats!"

So I've told only two people with whom I'm closest that I've started my own TRT. Turns out, they've been on test for a long time and simply understand the value of keeping our lips sealed in our judgmental American culture. I can't blame them for not sharing. I have seen a few men who I can tell are "slipping" as they age, and although I know for a fact that testosterone replacement therapy would help them, I keep my mouth shut. Maybe someday, but not today.

Loose lips sink ships, indeed.

So today I'm walking down the hall and my CIO says "You're jacked!"

What is there to be bitching about? People are obviously complimenting you by asking if you work out because (I'm guessing here) you look like you do. I get that all the time here. Strangers will say 'macho' (which is a compliment BTW where I live). I like it. 60+ and guys and girls giving my physique compliments. Start complaining when they ask how many donuts you eat a week.

Makwa's picture

I just get asked if I have a license to be carrying those guns around.

Ozninjaguy's picture

Good one.

Before running any steroids people used to ask me if i work out. Now they ask me "damn" how many times a week do you work out.

vhman's picture

I normally don't get bothered and it's mainly because of what I wear. I'm a professional and wear business casual or a suit most of the week. People know I work out, but I don't get many questions. When I wear a a tee shirt on the weekend, I've gotten a comment here and there. I don't walk around in a tank top or the like.
I guess if you don't like the questions, maybe change up what you wear.

ErieToPitt's picture

I wear business casual at work and thirst at home. I'm not going to start wearing suits. It was more of a do you type post. I'm ok with it.

vhman's picture

I hear you. I don't get much of it unless I'm coming from the gym and are in gym clothes. I'm not a monster by any means, but a solid 230, at 6'2" and about 13% bf.
The only comments that bother me are when they are referring steroids. I'm trt and do t ever blast.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with working out 5-6 times a week for years on end. Must be the roids.

ErieToPitt's picture

Got it. I did a couple cycles but I'm primarily hrt both test and Hgh. I run 6.1 225 13%. And I hear ya. 5-6 days per week or more. Hell, yesterday I got bored and went to the gym twice.

zeusmarada's picture

To you & vhman, I have put a few inches on my shoulders over this past year, so my old suit jacket that I had custom made for me is now "small." Unreal. Gotta love TRT "muscles."

vhman's picture

I hear you. My suits are expensive and to outgrow them is financially painful.

Drop-set's picture

I went to a large public pool yesterday. Sucks because I was with my ex and our son. I took off my shirt and she proclaimed I was already red. I said I was sitting in the sun trying to tan a bit. Truth is, I'm always red on cycle. She put sun block on me and quite a few people were staring. I'm not a freak, but definitely not the norm.

ErieToPitt's picture

Right, I agree. The other part may be they're not used to seeing a 50 year old that's muscled.

whiteNcrispy's picture

I'm not 50+ but I get annoyed by it too at times. A couple years ago I was flying west for nationals in my sport, and I swear nearly every person that spoke to me from when I got on the plane to the literally everyone in the hotel made some comment about my size, lifting, etc. I don't mind that people acknowlege it, but when I become nothing more than a muscly object to be gawked at, it kind of bums me out.

Drop-set's picture

My boss is a dick. I usually wear loose clothes or my work coat. I'm pretty new at my job, and one day they wanted me to help a coworker move something. I said "no thanks, looks heavy" then I laughed. Then my boss blurts out "yeah right, you ever see this guy in a T-shirt? He's jacked". I then laughed it off.

Later a coworker lady told me I took lifting too far, and I should have stopped when I just looked muscley. Wtf?

Gymjunkie01's picture

I actually love it .. Young kids will come up to me and ask how did I get big and they will show off there guns to me lol then there hot mothers come over and that's when I move in for the kill.. Win the kid over mommy throws him in day care at the gym your banging mommy in her mini van in the parking lot ..

Ive never gotten that question. But the question i get alot AND itsalways by old men of course never a sexy girl is ?? How much can i lift. And these guys have no idea, I could tell them anything
Why why never a sexy lady

MedDx's picture

Most older people have a tendency to let themselves go....if you're an old fart and still looking good, it's probably obvious you eat well and lift, or you wouldn't be getting noticed, unless you had a car like Irish...lol!
So, kudos to you!!
Anyway, I enjoy engaging in conversation about anything, and I'm so instrumental about people being involved, I would have had the FedEx man down on the ground doing push ups...lol!!

IrishMack's picture

My mailman looks in my driveway and he says " Nice car!" I stop at a stop sign and guys and girls all day the same thing. Is this car shaming? I mean seriously anyone can have the same car if they worked for it. Noone ever approaches me and asks if I workout, but they do say things such as "that muscular guy" or the built short guy. Being humble is about taking a compliment and moving on, bragging about it is a sign of insecurity and low self esteem. At least you are approachable, people go out of their way to avoid me. I like that sometimes because I'm antisocial.

fusebox's picture

antisocial

You too. Funny thing is I have a small group of friends that don't believe me when I say I hate people. But I do I just don't like people in general. When I'm in the gym or at a store it seems like everyone is always trying to get out of my way.

IrishMack's picture

But I am the nicest guy in the world, honestly. BUT if I hear another person outside of the gym ask me how much I bench press I just might fkn lose it.

ErieToPitt's picture

Yeah, part of me wants to be a smart ass, and say something like "Uh no, it's just genetics".

MedDx's picture

After hanging out here for a couple months, that may be your new answer...lol!! Smile

Makwa's picture

Everyone seems afraid to talk to me also. Guess I need to smile more or something.

tonytulo's picture

Everyone thinks I'm friendly and approachable lmfao -_-

fusebox's picture

I bet in real life you have a real bubbly personality. Lol

fusebox's picture

I would smile more but then people think you want to talk.

ErieToPitt's picture

True, I can't stand chatty people at the gym. Dude leave me alone, I'm hitting my chest today!

whiteNcrispy's picture

I got kicked out of a pro's private gym once because I told him to literally "shut the fuck up and lift". I wouldn't advise doing that if you get the opportunity, but we couldn't access his gym until late evening, and he'd show up and talk for like two freaking hours before he lifted anything. I found it unbelievably annoying. It must be nice to get paid to lift whenever you want. The rest of us have jobs, families and shit to get back to. Plus I don't go to the gym to socialize.

fusebox's picture

Yep. Same thing in the grocery store. Get the fuck away from the chicken

Makwa's picture

Don't get in between fuse and his chicken. Kind of like getting in between mama bear and her cub.

fusebox's picture

Lol. But it's the truth.

Makwa's picture

Make sure you are wearing a shirt next time the FedEX guy rings the doorbell. Also wear shirts 1 size larger than you normally wear. Then they will be asking, Do you even lift bro?

ErieToPitt's picture

It doesn't bug me. I take it as my training is working. I'm just being a crotchety old man. The weird thing is when I'm at work. I work mostly remote, so I'm there every other week, I can feel people checking me out with their eyes. Some even say, "Are you leaning out?" I had one guy come up to me and feel my bicep, and say "whoa"
