To aspirate, or to not? That is the question.
ad
Who here aspirates; & how the fuck do you do it with one hand? Maybe I'm asking for trouble, but I never really have. In quads I can see, because you have use of both hands. But, what's the real danger in not? I don't think my doctors do, as far as I know. As long as you're hitting your spots, it's all good. Right??? If this has already been asked on here, I apologize. I couldn't find it. But, in my defense. All the newbs, don't put in the work, why should I. & at least this isn't in the review section : )

always aspirate. simple technique works for me in glutes and delts. brace the top of the barrel where the plunger enters with your thumb, place two fingers around the plunger just under the top of the plunger, using your thumb push down on the barrel.
Yep, I hit something in my quad a week or two ago. Aspirating with one hand is pretty difficult, I'm just glad that I'm pretty flexible...and yes, I aspirate everytime.
Hit a fucking gusher in my delt today.. would advise asperating anywhere besides the glutes.. usualy with a 1 1/2 incher u get it deep enough to not have to worry
I pulled blood 2 weeks ago in the upper glute at 1 1/2 inches, just backed it up 1/4 inch, no more blood.
Yes bro... aspirate every time!!!!
switch from 2 or 3ml syringes to 5ml ones. the plunger has less distance to travel. If you inject into a vein it can be... unpleasant
TxBigBoyI aspirate every injection no matter what. The one time I contemplated not aspirating I drew blood and it freaked me out. As far as aspirating with one hand it takes some technique. Once I get the needle in I move my hand to the top of the barrel where the plunger meets it. I hold the back of the plunger with my pinky and palm and with my thumb and pointer finger grip the bottom of the plunger and apply pressure to the barrel until I see a bubble start then your g2g. It's all about taking your time and not paying attention to the needle you have in your muscle.
When you aspirate without hitting a vein, what gets drawn in, air or something else?
If you get any resistance trying to aspirate you're not in a vain. I.e., nothing gets drawn in.
tread-mMost people unlike yourself think you have to drag in some meat or marrow to properly aspirate. As you say, any resistance at all and no vein..when I drag blood you barely pull this thing and it flushes with blood.
TxBigBoyMan it kinda hurts if you pull to hard. When I first started out I'd pull up a big ass bubble, now I leave a tiny bubble in the barrel and just apply pressure till i see it start to increase a tad bit. Even when I get blood its only 2-3 drops.
Anonif you cant pull back the plunger, that means that you arent in a vein, so its safe. If you are in a vein, it will show blood almost immediately and there wont be much resistance to it.
I never aspirated for 7 years when I started pinning and frankly didnt even know what the word aspirate meant. About 4 years ago I met ifbb pro Luke Wood (rip) and in discussion he mentioned that he never pins without aspirating. I asked him "whats that?" he just laughed and thought I was fucking around so I just played along with it. When I got home I did my research and it happens to be one of the fundamentals of injecting, well nobody told me! So now I aspirate because its a part of the safe injecting protocol. I must admit that I draw blood atleast once a month so aspirating has saved me from injecting straight in to a blood vessel or two. aspirating in the glutes and shoulders isnt easy, you gotta be very good with the fingers and put up with the occasional cramping. Better to be safe then sorry!
AnonPlease trust me guys, aspirate. I do this for a living.
AnonAlways aspirate, I have hit veins before, you want the oil in the muscle slowly releasing slowly, not going straight from the vein to your cardio pulmonary system, possibly giving you an embolism and killing you.. No reason no to do it, its like using sterile procedures, its retarded not to do it.
DT-SwoleI aspirated every time I did my shots. There was a time where I actually poked a vein and blood leaked out immediately. Just alcohol swabbed it clean and moved down half an inch.
i always make sure i aspirate, however i have never once drawn blood (knock on wood).....i do have a question though, if you do draw blood... do u restart the whole process? is your gear in the syringe bad now once it is mixed with the blood? or are you good to re-pin and continue to inject?
Anonhonestly, just pull it out, find a new site and clean, and inject it. Just dont wait long or you can be injecting a clot which is a whole other situation
IMO the gear is still good, just back the pin out 1/4 inch and aspirate again, no blood inject.
I do, I hold the tube thumb and middle and lift with index. I've got blood twice and just pulled back a bit. I think the issue with pinning in a vein is that the dose goes right in the blood stream so you don't get the slow release over a longer period and waste the shot. Just my thinking why I do it.
I aspirate because Ive always read that you had to. Some people are giving what sounds like legit reasons here not to so I don't know now. I can say out of every time Ive pinned yet I still havn't yet pulled blood into my pin.
I didn't aspirate for years.Didn't even know you were supposed to.One day hit a little resistance right before the plunge.Started to push and felt really light headed and flush. Pulled out quickly and almost pasted out.Since then I have aspirated every time and only pulled a small amount of blood twice. The larger veins run on the out side of your muscles so you should be safe.I still aspirate though.
I've aspirated b4 and seen a little blood after the pin, cause I.couldn't see it when I was pinning 500 mgs of test and nothing bad happened. You can aspirate one handed, but the challenge would be whether or not you would see the blood. I use a 23g 1.5" for all my sites and doubt at that depth that I would hit a vein or artery as their far closer to the surface, so in closing, no I don't, if I were new to this, I prolly would till I got comfortable with technique. So if your new to this aspirate, until your technique is mastered.
sgtstedankoI have as well. I've also felt light headed afterwards, a couple of times. I'm more curious to see who does, who doesn't type of thing. On my phone, & don't research from it; wanted to know potential pitfalls to avoid. If old school guys did, or didn't vs newer school guys, yada yada yada... I learned from bro science in 94 (Turns out, a lot of it was out dated). & I've learned so much since I joined up here. So i figured I'd put it up for debate. Just constantly striving for more knowledge; until my heads explodes anyway. Thanks : )
put it this way, I know a doctor very well, in his opinion, if you are injecting something at 90 degrees to a muscle, which your sapose to do in an intramuscular injecting, the possibility of putting the needle into a blood vessel is slim to non. just what i am told. that is why when somebody is doing intravenous the needle is help on a 30 degree angle. Im sure everyone has their opinions though
sgtstedankoOK, so we're all tied up. Although my go to guy aspirates. I may have to look into this more : (
There are situations where I just cant pull the plunger back. I just go for it. The worst that ever happened is a headache and funky taste in my mouth. Never had a real problem. With tren it's a little different. Chest tightens up, you might cough, headache, but still, nothing serious. This is just my take on it. I don't really know the possible dangers. I've got to read more about it now that you mentioned it. I just know that i've had to go at it without aspirating before and i'm still here.
I have had a few nurses that have told me you don't have to aspirate unless its in the shoulder. I had a big conversation about this and asked them "can you die if you hit a vein," because i was pro aspirating. But they said even if u do for some reason you won't die from steroids. They said it would make you react a lot more violently, like you could break out and feel like straight shit. The last few times I haven't aspirated in the quad and glut it felt much better. The also said that there is a lot less damage done to the muscle.
They told me there has been a lot of research done on this topic recently and they are saying not to aspirate. It is supposedly an out dated technique.
Just my 2 cents
I aspirate Sarge and hit a vessel at least once a month. That includes gluts and quads. Or to be more accurate I do not know that I hit a vessel I know that I get blood into the syringe and pulling the plunger back when I hit blood is easier. I pull the plunger with the first 2 fingers on my hand and hold the syringe back with my thumb. So, take the first 2 fingers on your hand and touch them to your thumb and then open your fingers.
tread-mI agree, docs seem not to but it is inevitable as mucbh as we pin. Will it kill you in a vein, not likely as I have known a couple who have and lived. One said he knew as it plunged in he got light headed and had to drop for a while. I have hit right next to one such as the other day and got a little dizzy thinking the pin head was literally right outside the vein and it drew a little in from the pop because the aspirate was a bubble. I have on a few ocassions hit vein, drew back and filled with blood instantly so I landed dead in it. The chances as your veins get bigger over years and turn into garden hoses go up. If you do land in a vein you realize how easy it is to aspirate because when I did i "barely" pulled back on the plunger and it flushed QUICK with blood. You then know you don't really need to pull back so hard and get a bubble. If you just take a finger tip and apply a little pressure and don't get blood you're good. If you ever land in one you will see what I mean, it pulls back with less resistance than in mid air, just no resistance at all literally. I would aspirate brother unless subc and then up to you. I do think docs and nurses know how easy it is when you hit a vein so they may finger tip aspirate often and you didnt even realize it given they used same hand and did it so fast. Like you I know for a fact some don't so not sure if its protocol and they ignore it or not protocol given the tiny odds. I DO...
Always. Never hit a blood vessel but I seen them hit on internet videos. I don't know... I think the proper spot is the proper spot. Everytime I'be ever gotten a shot at the hospital they didn't do it. I don't do my shots at the hospital tho, I do mine in my closet and I'm not trying to be found like David carradine. Not a good look!!!
NastyNatejust got to be coordinated enough to do it, after u aspirate enough with one hand its really not that big of deal, slow and steady works for me. My long ass fingers prolly help too...at least my girl thinks so ;-)
sgtstedankoOK, so that's 1 for aspirate. I hope I'm not the only dumbass that doesn't. That's me all right, brother. Little T-Rex arms, almost no fingers, & skinny little bird legs : ( I'd probably fall over if I just had to do two things at once...
NastyNateI was just taught to aspriate..so I've always tried my best. Long arms and fingers definitely are an advantage in the aspiration area...I will admit that delts arent always the easiest...weird angle or something
sgtstedankoCool... Like so many things, i didn't even know it existed before I came on board here. But i don't get out much.
