Striated chicken
ad
I bumped into an older dude grocery shopping. He was a big mofo. He had the usual 9 dozen eggs and was loading up all the chicken they had. We started out asking about how shitty the chicken is these days. So do you guys find chicken without all the white striation shit these days? I really don't mind it as much. I usually shred it and mix it with my rice, sauce it up and go on. My family doesn't like it though. It sucks baked, on the grill, on anything where it isn't chopped small or boiled. It's just tougher than ever.

Someone please inform me. Wtf is a striated chicken?
Anablolic Chicken!!! lol
The shit I'm getting these days almost looks like salmon. I didn't really notice it until the past 6 months or so.
I don't really care, but my wife complained I'm picking out shitty chicken. So I started looking, and that's all there is.
I've noticed a lot more fat melting off of it on the grill too.
Chickens on gear hahaha
The link right below explains it brother
Wtf, read a link!? What am I a scientist!?
So that's what the white shit is? Never paid it any mind, all of it turns crispy after enough time on the grill!
Sorry i wasnt trying to be a wanker
I'm just fucking with you (err... No Homo). I followed the link and read it. Is this what those tough parts in chicken tits are?
I figured just didnt wanna sound like a knowitall and i guess it is i always just thought it was sinew its probably from chickens on chucken roids haha trying to grow them bigger in a shorter amount of time i buy from the farmers in my area so ive never seen the striations till this post
How does the local chicken compare to more mass produced chicken? Size, price, flavor wise etc. I've been looking into switching to local but most of the protein I buy is so cheap it makes it difficult.
i buy my chickens whole they average 5-7 pounds dressed out i pay 1.25 a pound if i buy at least 30 they knock off 40 bucks so i pay around 145 and some change for 30 chickens i dont eat alot of store bought chicken so i cant answer flavor comparisons but the chickens i get are free range so im sure they are more flavorful store bough free range chicken averages 4.99 a pound and up so cant beat the price and i know what is in my chicken now mass produced commercial chicken is about 1.99 a pound around my part of the country and full of god knows what
Store bought free range whole chicken averages out to the same price, if not a little bit more per LB. around me. The breasts I get in bulk are store bought mass produced and come in at 1.79 per lb so it's hard for me to justify going elsewhere.
Yeah cant beat that price at all !! How r they flavor wise??
Sorry it took so long to reply! Flavor wise they're fine, especially if you've got a gifted wife who prepares them well. She marinades them differently each time for around 2 days then I throw 'em on the grill and that's that.
Honestly I've had free range, organic, etc. and when all is said and done I can't tell the fucking difference except when Im at the cashier lol.
That's really not bad at all. I pay $8.50 for a roaster chicken here. For the small whole ones that amount to lunch I pay $5.50. I'll often buy the pre cooked 30 oz rotisserie ones for $7.00 when I'm in a pinch for time and kill it through the day. Those are all young chickens so they're half bone, other than the roaster one.
its hard for me to beat the Tyson breasts at $12 for 4 pounds, but you occasionally get chicken assholes mixed in your bag, free of charge.
I found a few articles on it. Supposedly the fat content is now higher, and the protein lower.
Everything in my area is covered with it. You just pay more for the striations at the Whole Foods places. I think I'm just gonna get some chickens.

Thats what i do i buy in bulk from the farms in my area
Me too 5kg box every other week
You buy em whole?? Its the only way to go if ya live near farm country by my beef that way to half or quarter side at a time save alot money
No I get breasts. sometimes I'll get a box of sirloins from the Farm shop too, everything else from the local superstore
Are they nice breasts ;)
Small and perky just the way I like em
Not a fan of the ones pumped full of fake shit
Hahaha me to:) mmm perky boobs
I'm fucking anal about that crap. I have a pair of kitchen shears used exclusively for cutting out the bullshit. Just did this last night. 8lbs chicken took around 10 min to clean up. Throw it all in the crock pot, shred it up and boom! G2g without worrying about chewing on some chicken fat. Lol
Off topic but, I find it hard to find a decent butcher that sells chicken that hasn't been injected with water.
There was a mini-scandal good few years back where by they were masking out of date chicken by injecting it with water to make it juicy. Now it's common practice to do so and sell by weight.
When I was a kid I worked in a butchers shop. The sh!t that goes on would make you puke.
Yes I have noticed it tougher. The size of the breasts has become crazy. Looks more like turkey breast
I bought a chicken breast 1 chicken breast that weighed 1.5 lbs wtf I asked the kid for 3 lbs of chicken breast and got 2 pieces
Even the chickens are running gear these days lol
Its so true lol
RustyhookerSounds like laying hens. Tough and dry. I buy them by the bag but agree on flavor isnt the best
I love chicken and brown rice and i crockpot everything so its allways tender
My favorite is like a chicken buffalo dip. I'll throw 3 pounds in the crockpot, 2 blocks of low fat cream cheese, 2 cups of cheddar and sauce it up. I'll eat that with a fork or on a tortilla with rice all day long and not mind it.
When I'm in a hurry meal prepping I'll just bake some breasts and chew on the cold rubber chicken, and work the jaw line thoroughly.
Sweet another good recipe to add to my recipe stash:) i have three crockpots that way i can cook a weeks worth at a time this is my most recent one ive been using
I throw it in the cook for 4 hours on low and chicken falls apart
6-8 chicken thighs
1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce
1/2 cup honey
2 tsp yellow mustard
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tsp sriracha
I love chicken and I eat it twice a day. Cook mine on the George Foreman and I have no complaints.
They say it's from supply and demand, and having to produce bigger birds in a shorter amount of time. Everything I've seen out there is covered in them though. The thinner breasts are just sliced that way.
Maybe it's more predominant in my area, but it's not as tender as it was, and I don't see a difference in the " organic" shit around here.
It's definitely cost more to get organic but it's well worth it
