Shoulder procedure questions?
If this is in the wrong section I am sorry please move it or let me know and I'll try and learn how to move to the right place.
This is my first thread I have started and need input/advice on a new shoulder problem I am getting into. For the last few months I have been having weird shoulder pains. From lifting to lifting at work even sleeping a certain way hurts. To be cautious I lower all the weight for my lifts and even eliminating some lifts that caused instant pain or increased pain. So I went to my doctor and they order first a X-ray then MRI. It came back as I have a small break in my scapula and the broken piece of bone is stuck in what my doctor calls tendon canal this was from the X-ray then the MRI shows I have a slap tear in my labrum and micro tears in my rotator cuff with scar tissue. I am going to see a surgeon in 2 weeks for his evaluations and they said first I would be getting a scope to remove the piece of bone then from there potentially get surgery to fix labrum and remove scar tissue. Who has gotten a scope I have been trying to find out more but it is hard what is the normal recovery like? And can you guys recommend everything. My biggest thing now is lighter weight and longer rest periods between lifting days plus I'm on as needed shoulder therapy till I see the surgery. My final question is even from the scope would anyone know if you have to have a manditory time off like say from work? I keep hearing a week but again I trust you guys and anyone previous knowledge from dealing with this type of a injury

I didn't update so will do now my surgery was. Socket was destroyed so they cleaned all the scar tissue out and drew my shoulder up 3/4 inch then used scar tissue to sow around to help hold in place. Labrum was over stretched and had 3 small tears so they cut out and drew over to fix both the issues. The rotator was over stretched and had 2 small tears they cut and sowed it as well. Then cut and drew up the tendons to tricep, bicep, and left pec due to being over stretched. I was in sling for 6 weeks and did not start anything till week 8 I am 85% now at 19 weeks since surgery in 6 more I will hopefully be full released I am only 50% at training/ gym time so I do not reinjury I basically do what I did in therapy and a tad more just up weight occasionally. I'm trying to do it right this time haha!
Word of advice. Do not come out of your sling to early. Do your rehab and baby it in that sling for a week or two longer than say and rehab that shoulder as should be done.
I was mister tough and slung my sling way to early but did rehab. Just didn't put sling back on. Big mistake. Takes time but you'll be new again. Now I got the other acting up. Little deca is actually helping the prior scoped side.
Good luck man. Just don't over do it
Update I am 17 days post surgery I had 2 tears in my rotator cuff and 2 in my labrum that had to be repaired with scar tissue removal. Many of my tendons wher over stretched or torn so they cut them pulled them up and reattached them. And finally my shoulder socket was destroyed and had to be repaired they had to use a surgical clamp to put my shoulder in place and pack tissue around it to help heal in place. I am and will be in my arm brace plus sling for another week for therapy.
I finally got some up dates there is a piece of broken bone from my scapula that in stuck in my shoulder socket but my new surgeon I was sent to this week said actually I had two tears in my labrum that healed wrong with a large amount of scar tissue and same with rotator cuff. This new surgeon said he honestly believes give up lifting and potentially look for a less active job and he would prescribe me pian killers for everyday pain. Then he after had his nurse tell me that I am scheduled for surgery next Friday due to my dissatisfaction of his approach and wants to go in and remove all scar tissue and bone fragment ( what I suggested and said he was a quack if he thought I would settle for pain killers and therorpy). I was able to get some extra help after sending a family member personal surgeon my MRIs and x rays he said he would like to give me his insite and try so I am going to start go to him and quit seeing my last set of surgeons. The new surgeon after looking over what I sent him had the same idea I did but from the start but did say the labrum and rotator for right now should just be a clean up and let's see after that how everything goes I just have to do my part.
I am hoping removing the small piece of bone and scar tissue I can avoid surgery but if I need the labrum done I will have it done thanks any and anyone who has input on this
Removing bone snd cleaning up scar tissue is surgery. Generally since thet are in there already, they will explore as well and fix other things if needed. You only need a scope to do the repairs. There are a lot of risks with surgery; I'd rather have them go in one time and fix everything rather than be opened up multiple times and put under anesthesia multiple times.
Scoping shoulder isn't an issue, but if they go in there and repair labrum you are looking at 4-6 weeks in sling and ~12 weeks to start very light weight. I never had labrum done but just had rc repaired through arthroscope and recovery is similar.
I cannot comment on the surgery, sorry, but re: the scar tissue on the rotator, I partially fixed mine with ART techniques
might be worthy of investigation ahead of the surgery
