+ 3 Recent Nonsense

ad

In light, of all the recent Nonsense post I've been doing a lot of thinking. Have we as of a people, parents and human beings lost touch, Where have we failed or have we even failed. I'd like to think as a smart and logical man and father that I, have not failed that I am a great father to my son. But where has all of this stupidity and lack of knowledge and reasoning come from. I'd like to blame in on society as a whole. The tv shows, the music, the video games and the media. This whole me me me mentality this self righteousness and just flat out dumbassissum epidemic. Who do we as a whole fix this how do we get a grip on it. When is enough is enough. At some point in time parents have failed their children and raised some flat out idiots. Its in plain view as of the present post and and tantrums that some of the children have been exhibiting lately. Something has to change and change soon. This YOLO ATTITUDE is going to destroy this world. Just think these kids are going to be the ones that are running this country when were old and gone. If I ever find my child acting like some of the kids in these recent post I'd beat him half to death because I sure as he'll have not raised him to be or act like that. So what do we do where do we go from here how do we fix all this nonsense. Maby I'm wrong maby I'm seeing this in the wrong light. Please you guys help me figure this out because I'm at a lost.

I could write a book on this subject...but I wont. Not here. Blame the nineties. As soon as main stream media started becoming more accepting of other people and cultures and started advertising intensely all these products we dont need or couldnt afford but we saw people like us on tv and felt if they have it so should we. we became (as a society) accepting of everyone. Not that that is a bad thing but also to start feeling entitled to certain things. Those that where young adults during this time had children. And because they had grown into adulthood this way far too many took it way beyond the next step. And immediately programmed their kids to feel they were special. That they deserved all the attention, all the awards all the best clothes even though they may not may not have deserved it. Example. I coach kids baseball. 8,9,10 year olds. And every year everyone (even coaches) gets an award. Dont matter if we suck horribly. We get a trophy or medal.
I feel one of the best things I ever did for my boys was to cancel cable. Did this about 6 yrs ago and haven't looked back. And even though I raised millennials you wouldnt know it by talking to them.
Unfortunately...they are here to stay. We have them in the work force and cant do shit about it except give them praise that they made it through the weekend and got to work on time. Sad but true.

Here where I work we have 2 girls I'd say in their early 20's and their late for work every damn day and I mean like 10,15,20 and a lot of times 30mins and nothing gets said to them ever. Last week I wrote the one girl up needless to say she got all pissy. 2 days later my manger called me into my office and made me undo her write up said there wasn't any need in it. She couldn't help it and that we couldn't afford for her to get mad a quit I said speak for yourself he'll I hope she does quit ill take up the extra hours. Its shit like that, that lowers the moral of the good workers and effects productivity. Makes me sick

My dad beat my ASS AND I MEAN BEAT MY ASS but you know what I'm a better man for it and guess what I beat my boys ass as well and he'll be a better man for it as well. Some of these kids need to be abused as child services would call it what a joke.

How do you know you are a better man for it?

fusebox's picture

Pale I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that I am a better person because of my dad. And he whipped my ass bad a few times. But I was a little punk that thought I could do whatever I want. He showed me that there were consequences for the bad decisions we make. And if I had taken his advice and followed the path he set in front of me I would be so much better off right now. Both of my brothers are sitting better in life right now than I am and both are ten plus years younger than me. They listened. I didn't. Not that I'm bad off. I'm sitting pretty good considering. But with that being said I've never spanked my kids. I don't have to. All I have to do is raise my voice a bit and they know shit is real. So I see both sides of it

I think you and shaun are missing Pales point. The discipline is good. How you were disciplined, maybe not so much. Read my post above. For me, this was one of those, "I'll never do that to my kids" moments.

Exodus 34:7 God "visits the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children to the third and fourth generation."

(1st generation) My father's father beat him in anger. My father probably uttered, "I'll never do that to my kids"

(second generation) My Dad always spanked us (palm, belt, or paddle) but never in anger. But sometimes unjustly. I uttered, "I'll never do that to my kids"

(third Generation) I've never spanked my kids more than once or twice and even then it was more cerimonial (not a hard spanking but emotionally upsetting) But to hear my kids talk of it you'd think I abused them. They have uttered, "I'll never do that to my kids"

(fourth generation) My kid, sober, 4.0 grade point average, has his life planned out at 16 years of age. probably will not raise a hand to his kids.

So, to re-ask Pales question, Are you sure the beatings made you a better man? Or the discipline and guidance?

shaun1's picture

I see and understand where you and Pale are coming from I truly do. I think I owe who I am to both the tale beatings and my fathers guidance. My father didn't abuse me by no means of the world but he enforced his way both by belt and love. Like you said above I told myself I'd never spank my kids as my father did me unless it was something that truly warranted it. The 2 maby 3x I did have to thought my son hey I can't do that and he learned he knows when I give him that look that he better stop and think about what he's doing and change whatever isn't right. I never enjoyed having to spank them. My boys are 20 and 13. Their very well mannered respectful and well behaved young men. I can onlypray that they take what I tought them and what I'm trying to teach them and make the most out of themselves as they can. At the end of the day you must show your child your love and compassion let them know what they mean to you and that you want nothing but the best for them and that you will die trying to give them nothing less than the absolute beat that you can.

I finished my post by saying I've never raised a hand to my kids. So yeah it was the discipline and guidance. But he was my step dad that adopted me. The guidance I received from him in life far exceeded my own flesh and blood deadbeat father. I'll take the ass Whoopings and just be thankful that he actually stuck around and cared enough to offer to give me his last name. But I agree with all you both are saying boss trust me. My situation is much more complicated than most and I wouldn't be able to elaborate more on here. But I still accept what he did and I'm ok with it.

fusebox's picture

And both my kids are 4.0 students. No drug or alcohol use and are open to both my wife and I on what is transpiring at parties and stuff. I must be doing something right. I'm not a complete fuck up.

I finished my post by saying I've never raised a hand to my kids.

And that point wasn't lost on me. Both you and shaun seemed to equate discipline as spanking, or as a whoopin'. I would bet what you fondly remember is that your dad cared enough to discipline you. How he disciplined you, maybe not such a good thing,

Bottom line, no matter the mistakes or "sin", you all are righteous men, all wanted their kid to be better than them. And all of you, through grace, succeeded.

Pale's picture

You are, you are talking to them. As did I with my own. And by no means am I saying I don't forgive my father, I do. It was all he knew and tried to do better by me than what was done to him. Although he was an angel compared to me lol. My point is if you cannot out reason a child you are really not prepared to be a parent. Sadly most of us find out too late that we were not ready.

fusebox's picture

That my friend is the truth right there. I am not condoning people doing what was done to you or me or even Shaun and I'm sure Greg. That's the way it was. It was all they knew. I've heard horror stories that I will never repeat about what my grandpa used to do to my dad and his brothers.

Pale's picture

My dad suffered PTSD too, so I forgive a lot. They didn't do anything to treat it with the Vietnam vets.

fusebox's picture

I'm sending you a pm pale. I need to say something but not in the open

shaun1's picture

I've never been in trouble with the law I work hard and I earn what I need. So I figure my dad being tough on me was a good thing. I've seen friends who's parents didn't give a carp and well lets just say I feel like they could have turned out better.

Well I think the disconnect here is you don't have to show you love your kids by beating them.

shaun1's picture

Your right and I make it a point to explain to him my reason why and the wholethis is going to hurt me more than Its going to hurt you and to be honest I believe it did hurt me more.

I couldn’t agree more and honestly after about two it’s ineffective. Takeing things and restrictions work much better. Ruling with fear is not the way to do it. Degrading talk also is bad unfortunately a lot of that stuff is generational. I would wager Sean’s dad told him he would get an ass whooping. If he’s wise he will break that chain.

Society and social networks destroying the young generation, friends of my daughter have an ipad, iphone and some of this other crap... we try to show our daughter the "real life" (no multimedia and so on) and how to behave! We also invest $360/month for a private elementary school. I hope she'll follow our education and stays a good girl.

Stop giving out participation trophies and start keeping score again. Kids these days have no concept on how to deal with losing and when they grow up and get thrown into the real world they don't know how to cope with losing and throw fits. lol

Pain, loss, failure = the recipe for success. Tell people they suck once in a while and they might actually try a little harder.
