Question regarding karma and up/down votes
ad
Is karma gained and lost through the 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' symbols to the right of comments?
The reason I ask is because I thought I read that you need 50 karma to give/take away karma. On some threads I have the option to give a 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' but on others it only gives me the 'reply' option on the right. It's odd why this isn't consistent for me. Also, under my profile it says that I up voted someone once before (which I do remember doing because he posted some funny shit). That's why I ask if up voting is the same as karma.

The act of voting thumbs up/down gives or takes karma points (if you are over 50 karma points).
The off topic thread does not allow for voting. I.e., karma is not given for off topic banter. Therefore only the reply option is shown.
Your vote will record +/- 1 for the comment but not increase/decrease karma for the poster until you are over 50 karma points yourself.
what about adding a thread or picture to favorites? does that increase karma too?
Yes,if you click the heart to add something to your favs,it gives the poster a karma point.I believe it is a glitch in the system.
There it is!
Thanks Greg
It will allow you to give a thumbs up, but unless your karma is over 50 it will not raise their karma when you do it.
Got it, thanks
Yes,thumbs up or thumbs down affects karma. Some parts of the forum don't offer the ability to give or take karma, such as this one.
Do you know why some threads can and some can't?
No,I'm not exactly sure.
