Powerlifting bar

ad

So I have this bar at home. I'm just looking to see if anyone can offer some insight on it. It's one I inherited a few years ago. It is 8' in length. No center knurl. The spread from collar to collar on the inside is about 4'9". So the weights are extended roughly 6" more than a standard Olympic bar. The bar itself is just under 1 1/4" thickness. I love this thing. I can throw 350 on it and it will make me grunt. Then I go to the gym and everything feels a lot lighter on a standard bar.
You can definitely stack some serious plates on this thing. With the wider spread of weights, it gets a good bit of flex doing deads and squats, even with the thicker shaft. It's not home made by any means. And it still has bearings. I'm just looking for some insight to its purpose. Google didn't know much.

I would think its an old squat/dead lift bar. Would not recommend for bench of any kind. From my experience the longer the baf the more stress it will put on the shoulders. Olympic style bars are a perfect length to ensure that any type of bench, inclie, and decline exercises distribute the weight correctly to each mucle group. Bench, incline, and decline are combination workouts so having a bar that is too long or too short will put more than the necessary stress Intended for each musle group. Again this isnt a fact just my opinion I got from my own experience.

I think it's just made for Neanderthals. I forgot to mention the finger references are at 40".
Most powerlifting bars I've seen are stiffer, so I'm not understanding the wider spread. I know the flex on some bars is to aid in momentum on certain moves, but I feel like a lot of that is offset with the cantilever of the weights. Maybe it was just a poor design. I have no way of telling how old it is but I'd guess within the last ten years.
My grip doesn't change with it, everything just feels heavier

Yea prolly a poor design. Throw it out lol. Its gotta put more strain on the chest and shoulders taking the triceps out of the movement.
