PICS and Your "My" SECURITY

ad

I guess I need to contribute more so I can PM if I choose to. So instead of posting a chainsaw beheading I will attempt to post something of quality. One of my concerns about posting pics, stats, ect is security.

  1. How do you take pictures free of any kind of stamp that can incriminate you.
  2. How do you disguise your pic file so it dont say something like user/jsmith/pictures/dbol when you upload it to the forumn?

For you "Muscle Tekies"

EDIT: As of today, uploaded images will be stripped of any EXIF info on the fly (no need to wait for the 6h purge cycle).

If you are a supplier here i would highly recommend learning about proxy servers and how to use them, 100% nessasary! for security

1) You pull the image up in Preview, Viewer, whatever program you have to view images. Then you take a screen shot of the image with the Print Screen button on PC or Command+Shift+3 on a Mac. Then you open up Paint/Preview (depending on operating system) and cut the image out and save it as a new file. Bam, no timestamp, no data from the photo itself.

2) I would do what I described above and then upload the picture to tinypic.com or another hosting site and then post it onto here. It might be unnecessary because I read somewhere that eRoids strips the image of all the data that could be used to locate you. Not sure on that though.

Just use common sense. When I take pictures of stuff that I wouldn't want anyone tracing back to me I always do it on a sheet of paper or next to a white wall. I don't have furniture, paintings, animals, other people, etc. in the background.

Good suggestions here.

I had no idea you could get so much info from a pic

sidrx's picture

You can obtain a LOT of information from a single picture. Even what was mentioned about taking a picture and print screen on it, this may remove the time stamp, that the device codes in to the picture.
I did some "testing" on some of my pictures and surprised about the amount of data that can be extracted. E.g. Device used to take photo (whether that be SLR camera, iphone etc etc and it sometimes will give you an exact model), date/time stamp, location (some devices).
Even by doing a screen dump of an image, it will have a date/time stamp when you saved the image data as a file. In laymens terms, it will contain data regardless unless you open the image in a "program" and remove these pieces of data which can be extracted by someone who has experience in digital forensics ;) or just an everyday joe which can probably find a DIY guide lol
As mentioned above, data can be taken out of the image, so it's bare blank and only have information about the image, and nothing about the user. Some hosting providers do this, and social networking website, though haven't been bothered to look at an image here to see, just too lazy lol

I knew that photos had time/date EXIF data attached, but location too? Really? I don't understand that :X

that is fuckin dope. excuse my language, but really fuckin dope.

I've always been scared to post pics because of a chest tattoo and I'm pretty easy to find with my email and bits of info dropped in here.
Not to mention how I'd hate to get bashed with ppl saying I could improve this or that.
I think pics are fine if you photoshop out ALL distinguishing marks and tattoos because you never know.

B-LOCO's picture

I saw a news report about how hackers can find out where you live by pics on facebook. Everyone was acting surprised. You dont need to be a hacker. Anyone can get this info by right clicking on the photo.

I finally did post a pic but took measures to make it untraceable. I will never put a pic of gear or anything else.

My biggest concern is making it to easy for them. I mean the whole "picture" is painted on this forumn in many cases. IF anything ever happened I would at least want them to work hard for it.

I was attacked a little when I first posted this. Was told they dont care about you. Oh really? It made me wonder about that person and my wonder was correct.

Thank god they scrub the pics posted on here.

Eminemsroyaltys's picture

Yea man I was down with the whole "they don't care," thing at first and used it to shrug off nervousnes about having gear but 1) I NEVER travel with gear 2) I NEVER keep gear in the house or even on my property or around it 3) I always dispose of syringes and gear properly and safely 4) I know it's not legal to have gear but I don't sell or trade it and I will be on testosterone in a few years, doctor prescribed anyway, and will be on doctor prescribed HGH and 5) I don't do enough of it for a "with intention to distribute" tag.

It has come down to this kind of thing these days and today just got wedding invitations in the mail and couldn't even post a picture online because a lot of people may be offended for not being invited or show up and crash it..wtf?!

Pics submitted with EXIF GPS Location data are not show until they're automatically stripped by our system which happens every night.

That chainsaw beheading was grade A quality, one of the best contributions I've seen, I would be more worried about being busted for gear than a pic yo.My 2 pennies

Greg's picture

??? The next time I go to rob a bank I won't worry about the mask, I'll worry more about being busted for the stolen money in my mattress.

everclese's picture

We've already discussed this... you're wearin the mask and the cape.... the heist wont have the same buzz if I'm the only one in costume, You know how stupid we're gonna look gettin on our getaway goats if you're not wearin your mask.... C'mon greg ..

How do you take pictures free of any kind of stamp that can incriminate you.

Pics you take with a digital camera contain certain metadata called EXIF data.
There is camera settings info (exposure, brightness...), filenames, dates, possibly location or other personalized info that you've entered in the camera setup.

EXIF data gets stripped if you open and "save for web" in photoshop, gimp or other imaging softare.

B-LOCO's picture

Again, wtf are u talking about? Being a source? Read the question in my post and post intelligently or not at all please.

B-LOCO's picture

I agree bro. I try. My wife work in psychiatrics even. NOthing helps. Tren makes it worse. Lately Ive been set off easily. Not normal society material. I know.

Sorry

You asked about picture securtiy, and he gave a tip or two.
So the REAL question is, what the fuck are YOU talking about.
It's easy to see why you have a rep of 5 after 11 weeks of membership.
Keep that name LOCO--it suits you well.

B-LOCO's picture

Easy Gentlemen, before we are all throwing our laptops. I know my digital camera tags certain info in files. I want to make sure that it is gone before i post pics and that the file does not contain my name. Thats all.
I am not looking to open LOCOGEAR anytime soon. I did get defensive at some of the reactions and rants by some trying to preach about things that dont concern me.

I love you all....

7gothic's picture

LOCOgear!!! I LOVE that idea. That shit would definitely sell...lol

So your saying I should be good till I win the lottery and then start "GIVING" (as in for free) Testosterone away to every old man that wants it.

HHHEEEEYYYYYY!!!!!
I worked hard on that chainsaw beheading!! It earned me 173 rep points.
If you want to post things that are informative and valuable, go to Oprah.com
This site is for dope-smoking, gear-using, sex-addicted juice heads with no life.

O.K.....just kidding.
I'm not sure about the photos...I noticed the same encryption on mine after the fact.
Thanks Greg for the info.

Personally, I don't give a shit about my identity being hid. I don't possess steroids or anything illegal, and I travel to Mexico to get my shots so I'm not breaking the law. If it were up to me, I'd post videos on here showing me getting pinned in the ass---BY my wife...WHILE fucking her. Hey, it's better than nail scratches running down my back, and not as painful.

B-LOCO's picture

I aint taking a shot at your video. I am alittle pissed about not being able to PM.

KMC's picture

So I need to remove the serial number from my sheep ??

Do I need to do it today?

Easy, It wasnt meant to single anyone out. I just got cut off from PM the 2 people I communicate with behind scenes.

Upload from a folder that is not in "my documents" or the "desktop" folder

e.g. [c:\documents and settings\JOHN DOE\local settings\desktop]

try this:

Thank you for a correct repsonse to my question.

I want to contribute more.
I want to be "careful" about it.
