most painful gym injury
ad
So we were talking about dropping weight on toes in another thread so I though I'd post this. What is the most painful injury that has happened to you in the gym? serious injury or just hurting yourself.
The worst pain I have ever felt in the gym was when I was burning out on a curl or something when I put the dumbbell down I smashes the tip of my ring finger between the grip on the dumbbell and the support bar under the bench. I have never felt such a hot shooting pain. I yell the threw the dumbbell about 10ft instantly. Then had a black nail for 3 months.

Anonshrugging 495 I use a wide grip because my arms are bendy, set it down and pinched the skin off my pinky finger.

BigBmajMy workout partner did that on a fly one time. He came down with this finger between two large dumbbells. His finger exploded. There was a doctor in the gym and he told him to hit the ER. He needed a bunch of stitches. His finger still hurts him sometimes.
I did a squat one time listening to some super heavy music thinking I could lift more than I could and I tipped my back. I was out for quite awhile with that, physical therapy, and massage galore.
i was doing decline dumbell presses with 35 in each hand and as i sat up there was a steel bar in the middle of the front of the bench and the 70 lbs pulled me forward with such force and my you know what smashed into the steel bar....the weights went crashing to the floor and i was in so much pain i could barely walk...i managed to get to the front of the gym to ask for ice and when they asked what happened they were like ooooh eeewww oooooo...i proceed to sit in a chair with an ice pack between my legs.....i was mortified
A torn sternum (your inner chest) has to be the most painful injury I've ever experienced. Never doing deep weighted dips with my elbows flared again. That shit was intense.
Injured it 2+ years ago. Can't do a single dip to this day without the pain returning. It's too bad too cuz I was a dipping stud.
ripped tendon. any.. hurts more then a broken bone
Should not have mad this thread, a 25lbs plat tipped over and landed on my big toe today, then I flung my phone onto the same big toe about an hour later, now I'm feeling it
CleyonWhen that happens it makes very little difference if the weight is rubberized! Ouch bro! BTW, stop throwing your phone!
my last one always seems to be the worst. That is until the next one lol.
Kid on the boat with me was sitting on a milk crate doing overhead tris with a dumbbell. At full extension the nut flew off and two plates followed shortly there after. I don't think this accident could ever be duplicated. The ten pound plate landed squarely on his sack and he dropped the rest of the dumbbell on the back of his head. He begged me to survey the damage but since I'm not a medical professional, I saw no reason to subject myself to that view. Two days later he had surgery and I haven't seen him since. Call it a stupid tax if you like, I call it Darwinism in action.
somebody called his injury a stupid tax, funny, but true lol
be carefull on the seated leg presses bro's. I was going heavy and ass came off the seat, hips started coming toward chest pulled or popped something in lower back had 2 call 4 help 2 get it off me, felt super hot near my spine could barley walk needed 2 lay down on the gym floor for a while eventually limped out of the gym, thank god it healed with time and rest, my lower back a testicles ached 4 weeks!
This isnt really physical pain but more like just emotional pain. I was doing squats next to this hot chick that i was talking to and on one of my reps when i bent down to the floor i accidentally squeezed a fart out and it was pretty loud. She gave me the omg face and walked away. I put the bar down and tried to play it off like it came from my shoe or something but she wasnt buying it. I swear i had never been that embarrassed in my entire life. lol
zewisWifefor me.. nothing. However, zewi on the other hand. Was doing sit-up and i saw him looking at another women so i dropped a 15lb medicine ball on his nuts.
CleyonIt is so awesome having you here!
zewiI really don't like this.
CleyonI wouldn't expect you to, but it is highly entertaining!
zewisWifewell he turned his head right away. I can tell you that.
CleyonI bet! Still that's a pretty harsh punishment for that offense.
It seems like the perfect way to keep a man focused on his workout--once he recovers. Thanks for the idea
Bwaaaaahhaaa It's Cleyon's lady. Lol.
Now maybe Cleyon will quit trying to get me to send naked pics of myself to him.
CleyonNot a chance. We both LOVE Napoleon Dynamite!
zewisWifeo it keeps them focused that is for sure.
CleyonDamn.
zewisWifewell it was learning environment.
CleyonI didn't think Nurse Ratchet was a teacher?
zewisWifewell now i know how to treat and injury like that.. So it workout just fine. for me
CleyonI'd ask what method you used, but I'm worried that Zewi's about to reach his breaking point.
zewisWifeIce lots of Ice.
CleyonToo much shrinkage. ;-)
MOST PAINFUL GYM INJURY:
When I had my heart broken after being rejected by the desk girl.....it hurt worse than the broken arm I got from Grrrl for asking in the first place.
HAHHAHA that's great. I'm always incredibly offended and feel ultra rejected when the cute girl takes the treadmill 2 away from me rather than right next to me. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?!?!
CleyonI'd just get off my treadmill, and go get on the one right next to her!
You and me both, sometime gotta go to the one in front of her and hold my back shoulder and calfs in a constant flex
CleyonOr go to the one behind her and just enjoy the view!
That to but gotta show off all the hours and hard work we are putting in the gym
CleyonI do that by taking something heavy into the "arobics" area. I make sure to fles a lot, and use the ripple method.
This wasn't extremely painful, but could have been. I was doing tri's and took an incline bench and placed it back side towards the cable pulley. I started doing overhead tricep extensions with a straight bar. Well I dislocated my right index finger playing ball the week before and I still couldn't bend it enough to grasp over the straight bar. So I was going pretty heavy and pulled up the weight, 1st and 2nd rep went fine, went up for the 3rd rep and the bar rolled forward and off my right palm. Smacked me right in the forehead hairline and glanced the bridge of my nose. I didn't even want to look at myself in the mirror. I thought for sure my nose would be plastered to the size of my face! Luckily not!
It was heavy weight too. I'm not a monster or anything, but I do overhead dumbbells at 115 lbs for 4 sets of 10. So I know it was heavy enough to fuck my shit up, lucky me.
CleyonI've been contemplating which story to share here as I've paid the "stupid tax" multiple times at the gym. However there is only one that has caused actual injury that sidelined me for any real amount of time.
The summer before my junior year my high school built a brand new wrestling room and weight room. Our first week back we weren't allowed to use the weight room (the football coach was also the Athletics coordinator, and a giant tool). On Thursday of that week me and my wrestling brothren were tired of it and decided to take over the weight room!
We waited until everyone had left, and went into the beautiful shiny new weight room. When in a new weight room, what would YOU hit first? If you said legs you are a lying bastard. Chest it is! We got on the bench (I went first of course), and started in. Kept it easy for the first set 135, then went up. At the time my max was 205, so I HAD to put up 205 in the shiny room! Well I did, and as I went for a second rep the bench below me just dissapeared. Not everything had been bolted together yet, and the bench and I dropped about a foot before being stopped by a crossbar. So the bench stopped, I stopped, but my arms could not stop the bar from continuing onward to my chest. It was the most sickning crack I've ever heard in my life, and all of the sudden I couldn't breath.
Anyway, two days in the hospital, and a month at home (not to mention three days detention) later I went back in there, and could barely put up 135...
That hurts just reading that DAYUMM!!
I was doing dumbbell presses & my nose started itching - I decided to stop at the top of the rep & tilt my head to the side & rub my nose on my upper arm. Well I did so but didn't notice my arm slowly going backwards, when I did notice I tried to stop it but momentum took over - my shoulder (rotator cuff) made a loud pop & my arm went limp like a flaccid dong. To this day I still have issues with it. Very painful lesson :(
Poetry right there brother. "Limp like a flaccid dong" Pure poetry...
I pride myself on my poetic prowess ;) "Penile Poetry"
i was in a hurry and was trying to knock out some weighted dips. I put the belt on and strapped a 45# plate to the chain. that was my first time using a 45# plate and i was unfamiliar with the size of the plate and how far it stood above the ground when rested on its edge. I hooked the chain into the belt and stood up and immediately racked myself with a 45# plate. Sent that plate right into my nuts. That hurt bad. no blood or anything, but my workout buds started laughing and as soon as i could start breathing again i laughed as well.
CleyonAs soon as you said "weighted dips" I knew you were taking one to the boys! LOL! I think we've all done that before.
I've done it, the strap was plenty long enough I just pulled the 45 up to fast and it caught some momentum but luckily my nuts were there to stop the plate.
they are exceptionally good at stopping things. feet, knees, plates, all sorts of stuff.
CleyonI really wish they'd learn to dodge! I've got 4yr olds (yes twins) that are at the exact right height... If the run up to me I get hit with a head, if I pick them up it's a foot.
Nature dropped the ball on this one, why would are nuts be on the out side where we can take a crippling hit, it would make more sense to have them protected lol
