Medial miniscus tear

ad

Whats up guys been having knee problems lately so i went to the doctors and he sent me for a x ray and thinks i have a medial miniscus tear in my left knee, next step is a mri.

I was just wondering if any one else has had this injury and if they still trained and what they did about it any advice would be great.
Thanks

You're supposed to avoid twisting stress to the knee like planting and swinging a golf club or bat but it depends alot on how you feel and basically whatever you can do that is not painful and potentially making more damage you can do as tolerated. With meniscal tears they encourage strengthening the legs, glutes and calves so you should be able to resume lifting when you are up to it. Just dont go too heavy with your squats.

getting in scoped is like 4-6 week recovery...if it isnt catching you can try to hold off on it

I had this and recovered well with non-operative therapy.
I have some arthritis, some clicking and am a little weak and dont squat very high but otherwise training is fine- I dont use a brace. How you will do and what you will be recommended depends on how bad/ the extent of tear you have and what position/location within the knee is damaged. Lateral tear is better than more medial tears due to greater blood supply for healing. Obviously worse damage means more symptoms and more likely need for surgery as well as more likely complications and arthritis down the road. Best wishes for you and hopefully your scan is (-).
