Lost my dog today.

ad

Found dog of 10 yrs today on the floor past away. Rottweiler/ black lab mix. Beautiful dog. Was one of a kind. Sat on the couch like a human, arms on the arm rest and on her butt, sittin up. She had the best personality and was loved by everyone.
If you have a dog. Give em some love. If you don't have one, look into rescue. Dogs can add a lot to your life, and you to theirs. Wishing you all well. Life is short.

Sammy (Samantha). Rest in peace. I'll never forget you.

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my best friend about a year ago. She was an amazing pup and no one will ever replace her.

But I can start to appreciate other dogs a little better now. They're all different and special in their own ways.

But I'll always miss her.

I felt this way for my dog named Fred. I swear that he was like my partner. He was the only dog I could walk without a leash, that would sit in the passenger seat of the car and act "human." The day he died, after a year of chemo for cancer, I was away from the house and got a text saying that Fred was dying. I raced home and remember being so stressed out from the news and sad that I started gushing blood from my nose all over the steering wheel. I parked the car literally in the street blocking off traffic from a busy one lane street but didn't care one bit. I ran inside but Fred was dead. I cried a cry that to this day I haven't (thank God) had to replicate. I buried him in the back yard on his favorite blanket and his pillow he would always chew on. Damn I miss my Freddy. Sorry for your loss.

I am sorry for your loss Junior. I lost my best friend of 13 years 3 years ago Friday, it took me until a couple months ago to get another dog/family member. Still to this I cannot talk about him without choking up... They are a part of us bro. No shame in mourning them..

Lost my boxer for eight years last week . He was the only the boxer that would let my 9 month old son play with him. Got a bullmastiff now but still miss him.

Damn, I feel for you. Ive asked myself the question, what will I do when mine passes! It's hard to get my head round, doesnt bare thinking about.
I had to watch her get hit by a car when she was about 6 month old, fortunately none of the wheels ran over her and she got spat out of the rear of the car and ran off down the road, I cant tell you how relieved I was!! If she had been an adult she'd of been dead for sure. Shes 4 and a bit now and alive n kicking in my avi, lol.
No real good advise I can give though, I always thought I'd just replace her when that day comes but thats not really gonna work, their all one offs arnt they!?!
Time will help bro.

I too had a Rott mix. We had him 14 years, was gone for 2 years and came back home. I was away alot and he turned out to be my fathers dog more than mine. His hips gave out, which is common for the breed, and the vet would make house calls to give him saline injections once in a while. He just got to the point where he couldn't walk so it was necessary to put him to sleep. They had him cremated and later buried with my father at his earlier request. My father loved that animal better than anyone in that house, and that was totally fine. When you see the undeniable joy that and animal can bring into someones life, and the bond that has been formed, you can better understand the lengths that people will go to in order to hold onto it. I wish you well, and sorry to hear.

Thank you. Yes it was her hips that gradually made life very painful for Sam as well. It was hard to watch her struggle with the pain over the last few years.

We had quite a special bond as well. And my father loved her too. Everyone loved Sam. Dogs and humans. She had this personality. Especially when she was younger. People were so amused by her. There is this empty feeling in the house. Like her life spirit or something is gone. The house feels empty.

Man, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Your father as well as your rottie. Thank you for sharing your experience with me.

Sorry for your loss bro. I take losing a pet harder then a person even. I nearly lost it last time I lost my last dog. Just like losing your child.

Hope you get thru it soon and rescue or foster another one. Theres always animals in need of a good owner.

Thanks. It's been pretty hard. The waves of emotion come at you hard. I let them pass over when people are around. But in private I have broken down.

I'm gonna let some time go by and if at some point I feel the desire to go and look at dogs I won't stop myself. I just don't see getting that feeling for awhile. But you never know. Thanks for posting your experience and your kind words.

Sorry to hear your news mate, my thoughts are with you. Our Labrador is nearly 15 now, doubt we've got her for much longer.

Thank you bro. Labs are amazing dogs. Hoping you have more years with your friend.

terribly sorry for your loss. My best friend ever was put to sleep two years ago ...

Thank you. I'm sorry you lost your friend as well.

Buff, I could have wrote your words straight from my own heart.

Thanks very much for posting this. I had a feeling I would feel like this. I don't want to feel like I'm replacing Sam. Wouldn't be fair to the new dog. I wouldn't be the same with the new dog. Most say that over time I will be at peace with Sammy's passing and eventually get a new friend. I hope that is the case. But for now, I feel like I would have a similar experience as you've had. I'm just gonna wait and think about a new dog after a little time. Thanks again for posting this and sorry you lost your friend.

I am sorry to hear this. I love my dogs and I know the pain of losing them over the years. I also had a pitbull named Samantha she passed away. She use to watch the kids when they were out playing and they would tackle her and dress her up for Halloween and Christmas. She was truly a member of the family. So my heart goes out to you for your loss.

JuniorHealy's picture

Thanks man, your Samantha sounds like a great dog/friend/family member. Sounds like some great memories with your family.

JuniorHealy's picture

Thank you very much. I appreciate your comment. I really hope for the best possible scenario for you and your family's chihuahua. Thank you for the prayer that means a lot.

Really did lose a great friend today.

Life is short.

Dogs are awesome until I had kids, I have a 85lb american bulldog named Rawco. Hes a beast, if I lost him I would be devastated my man. You have to bounce back and buy another one,to try to get over it. My condolences to you brother. God speed

Hawkdc's picture

I also have an American bulldog. He is a tank, 135lbs of muscle, fat, gas, and a shitload of personality. He's been my best bud for 6+ years and I dread the day he passes away. Dogs truly are a mans best friend!

JuniorHealy's picture

I'm torn between feeling that getting a new dog would be an attempt at replacing her and that it would be honoring her and keeping her memory going. Will put thought into it. But I can't for a little while. Thank you for the words brother. Preciate it

Sorry to read this, brother. At least you had a good 10 years. You will never lose that.

JuniorHealy's picture

Thank you. I'm running through the last 10 yrs in my head. picking her up off the floor and wrapping her in a blanket was excruciating. Had to be strong for the family. But now, privately, I'm a mess.
Thank you for the kind words.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my dog of 14 years last year. Dogs are best. They're loyal to fault and always happy when you get home. They become part of the family. Take care and always remember.

JuniorHealy's picture

Sorry to hear, bro. This is crushing me. It comes in waves.
Miss her.
I know posting it on eroids is kind of weird but it helped me release some of this pent up shit.

Thank you for your post. Sorry for your loss as well.
