+ 12 Life is so fragile

ad

Let me preface this with an apology if this is posting in the wrong place and/or contains any spelling/grammar errors feel free to fix Greg/BFG.

I have told 1-2 of my closest buddies here, but thought I’d let everyone know if I’m MIA for a while. I had a seizure or passed out while driving on the interstate Thursday night. I have zero memory of the crash- woke up covered in blood, smoke filled cabin, and airbag off. I got out trying to flag down a car and woke up again laying in road with people shaking me.

I speculate seizure because eye witness says I sped up and just slowly drifted off the shoulder and hit a concrete light post passing them at 80, but I vividly remember last thing having cruise on 75 and listening to podcast last thing. After the first collision apparently I kept going and went all the way back across the interstate and into the right median before finally stopping. Back of my right leg has the contusion like I was stepping on the gas when the impact happened hence my seizure speculation.

Had to go in ambulance as was so out of it and throwing up blood covered in blood. Nothing major broken thankfully minor brain bleed, abdominal bleeding that has stopped, severe concussion, lots of small cuts/bruises, and quadricep contusion… for the speed I was going and how severe the wreck was I have no idea how I escaped with only what I did.

My puppy was in the back and a higher power was watching… I randomly decided to put pillows along the walls of her kennel and buckle it down so she doesn't even have a scratch thankfully was just shaken up. I never buckle it in was just so lucky. Did acupressure on her ribs/spine/limbs before I let the ambulance take me and thankfully had an aunt 20 minutes away from the impact site my mother called and had her pick up so didn’t have to go to pound.

Rest in peace to my baby 55k 6.2L trail boss… she was paid off in full so hopefully insurance gives me a pretty good paycheck… really just grateful me and my puppy are alive. And that nobody else was involved in the accident- I truly thought I killed someome or someone hit me I just have no memory which is the scariest part.

Most of yall know I have been sober for over a year and that’s the same thing cops/hospital staff thought too. No drugs in system, no blood markers wrong, blood sugar was on point, etc. no obvious reason I should’ve passed out or had a seizure, but sometimes these things can’t be seen on simple scans and/or blood tests. Praying, praying, praying that this is not a continued thing- if I have another one I get license suspended for 6 months which would be terrible.

Moments like these are really sobering… life can end in a flash. Don’t sit idle and let opportunities pass. Be nice to your fellow brothers and family. Go for that girl you’ve been thinking about. Seize the opportunity- Carpe Diem!

Love y’all guys for better or worse haha. Hope everyone ended their holiday season better than I did.

Am doing great! Brain bleed and abdominal bleed gully stopped naturally zero invasive surgery. Lots of blood tests, 2 cat scans 1 abdominal with dye and 1 contrast MRI on head. Nothing too major just wanted to ensure the brain bleed didn’t continue or swell and it hasn’t! Concussion has me feeling very limited and strange, but that’s really nothing compared to what could’ve happened- it’s already getting better. The quad contusion is going to suck for a few weeks trying to get back in the gym, but right now I’m not that bothered.

Thank you for the prayers. Everyone here truly helped a lot with the dread/anxiety I have been experiencing

Everyday from this point forward is a bonus. The odds were in favor of you not being alive today versus sharing your experience. I’m happy you’re here with us and you’ll heal up quick.

I’m sorry to hear that brother! I hope you recover fully! Glad you are safe man! Congrats on being sober too! I know how that goes, I’ve been sober since April and feel a whole lot better. Sending prayers brother!

Yes sir! It really is an amazing feeling and gave me a new take on life. Being sober I actually WANT to be here and continue to better myself… in active addiction I would have some days I just wanted to OD.

This is really even more scary because they could not truly determine what happened to me- all speculation no obvious markers and nothing in my system.

I really appreciate it! Am discharged and now going through the insurance process.

I agree bro! Wanting to actually make life fun and thrive to continue to do great things and want better for ourselves. I ge the OD part for sure! Happy that shit is behind us!

We got this bro! One day at a time! Glad you’re discharged bro! Keep us posted man! Have a great 2025 my dude!

I’ve started off with the flu. My and my lady got this shit so I’ve been out 6 days already. Just a bump in the road lol take care bro!

Your lucky man. One time I had a seizure, completely unexplainable also. It’s been probably 7 years now and still haven’t had another one. My girl said it looked like I jumped in the air and dove head first into the bathtub. Weird as hell. My girl said it was super embarrassing because i asked the EMTS to sell me drugs lol I have no recollection of it and was 100 % sober. I really don’t remember much of that whole week, it was very strange

Anyways, life ends so fucking quickly man. Never waste any of it, sometimes these events are good for teaching us things like that

smurfdude1234567's picture

Oh yeah man cops and hospitals was grilling me about being fucked up at first, but I truly have been sober and take pride in it so I was being pretty combative and standing up for myself in those terms. I have bruising across bottom of abdomen and across chest/clavicle from seatbelt but cop was trying to say he “knew” I had it off. Just trying to get me to admit something but they let him do that as ambulance was wheeling me in which kinda pissed me off- don’t even remember a majority of the conversation.

I’m glad you’re here too man… it’s tough to imagine the times having that happen but I guess at home is the best you could hope for. I think I pulled a pretty short stick in terms of timing but damn near the best one in terms of injury avoidance!

1000%. I honestly have been a little mundane and not the happiest just working lately. This made me grateful just that I am still breathing.

The memory is a really concerning part- I’ve been forgetting passwords, names, messing up sentences, etc. pretty normal for a severe concussion I’m told but it’s hard to realize it. Like I sent pictures of my truck to family members 3x over and kept doing it thinking I hadn’t yet the first day after hahaha.

I appreciate the kind words!

You need Mac to pop over and get ya plugged into his diagnostics kit - see if any error codes are coming up smurfers!! Do be aware though he likes to run his own diagnostics first to make sure he is in good working order before he'll do yours LMFAO Lol

Glad you're alive man, 5 years ago I hit some ice without a seatbelt on and got ejected through the windshield in a rollover, ironically being thrown free saved my life, my passenger died at the bottom of the canyon my land cruiser rolled down.
Life is fragile, fleeting, beautiful and awful.

Jesus man sorry to hear that. I agree- really it’s short so might as well make it worth it while we’re still here.

I appreciate that a ton brother man! Hurting like a MF, but I always deny all pain meds as I was a prior opioid addict. Really got out so so so lucky for how bad it was.

100%. No worries at all man that’s why my messages have been so incoherent/short haha. Concussions suck.

Materialistic things can always be replaced. The fact that me and my dog were spared is more than I could ever ask for. Happy you are still here as well!

Thank you for the kind words!!

Sucks that it happened but it's great that you and def the puppy survived. I'm Betty you probably had driven plenty of times you shouldn't have when still in the middle of your addiction. I have no idea how I never got in a serious accident when I was an alcoholic or later when I got hooked on opiates. Hopefully they get the cause nailed down so something can be done about it.

Since you're spending all of your time in a hospital bed for a while I'm guessing you'll be on here basically 24/7. I've only been in the hospital to stay once and it sucked giant donkey nuts. Hope you have A speedy recovery.

smurfdude1234567's picture

Oh yeah man that’s what I said… almost wish it was when I would be nodding and high or have something in system so always I could attribute it to something… seem perfectly healthy. I’ve been spared so so so many times and it really makes you think.

Yeah haha the concussion sucks with being on phone too much but I’ve finally been able to get a little bit of sleep. I anlways deny all pain meds except acetaminophen because of my past.

I appreciate the kind words brother man!

Hopefully you get back home to that sex doll of yours soon! She's probably lonely home all alone.

I hope you have yourself a shovel buddy owning something like that. Every man needs a trusted friend with a key to clear out all the embarrassing things in your home if something were to happen to you. Imagine the looks on your parents faces if they found your fuck toy.

smurfdude1234567's picture

LOL! I do and have to because I keep an egregious amount of the stuff we get here and some various other things certain 3 letter agencies frown at hahaha.

If I even feel a warrant is popping up or when I’ve had stuff seized have had to move some stuff to incognito places before haha

Maybe you should wine and dine her when you get home. Show her how much you missed her.

Or just use her as the fuck toy she is and back in the closet it goes. Whatever floats your boat.

God Damn Brother,
I’ve been seeing shit like this my whole life, could have been so much worse. In reality, you got away lucky even though that’s messed up to say. I wonder wtf happened. We are here if there is anything we can do. I’m glad you’re still with us man, that is too close to call. Fuck. Praying for a fast recovery and I’ll be practicing alittle more gratitude this week.
Sending prayers and Love Bro.

I appreciate the kind words and wishes brother! Absolutely… I still have no idea what truly happened I try to replay it and lost quite a bit of memory. The support is more than I could ask for- everyone here is special in their own way and care a lot more about an internet buddy than a lot of people I know in person. Hope you are doing decent brother !

Crazy story, glad you and the pup are ok. From the looks of the damage it could have been much worse. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

smurfdude1234567's picture

100%. Last thing I remember was cruise on 75 listening to a podcast called PKA. Witness said they saw me speed up and pass them 80+ then just slowly drifted off to left median wrecked into concrete light post and then kept going back across interstate and wrecked into the right median after. Woke up probably 2-3 minutes after because people had time to exit highway get to service road and get out of car to my truck. Not 100% on everything still. Have a dashcam but definitely getting a camera that faces me for next vehicle!! I would give anything to know what truly happened.

Thanks for the well wishes brother!

Owes a Review × 1
OogieBoogie's picture

The scariest part is not knowing what really happened. Dashcam is a good idea. Also bring food with you while you drive, its a good distraction to keep you awake. Also could help if it had anything to do with sugar levels, hydration, etc.

smurfdude1234567's picture

Yep was munching on peanut m&m’s and Gatorade can’t lie haha. They did finger prick in ambulance all was normal. Blood markers everything’s is in check. No major brain systems or signs except concussion.

Definitely the scariest part.

I am 99.9% sure it was not tiredness. Had been up less than 7 hours and was day time. No drowsiness or heavy eyes or drifting like I’ve experienced just one second there the next almost dead.

Damn bro, I’m sorry to hear this but very glad you’re not too banged up. Keep us posted and get yourself well. I notice in the picture your luscious head of hair does don’t get messed up, fucker. All jokes aside, get better my friend, hopefully it can be easily treated.

smurfdude1234567's picture

Hahaha I always get told I have a ton of thick hair. Very lucky genetics wise in that regard. My mom’s side granddad lived to 79 and had a full head of hair the whole time so hoping for the best!

Right leg is hyper extended quadricep contusion pretty badly I think that’ll be the biggest limitation in terms of getting back to normal day to day. Concussions suck but normally start to get better very quickly after a week or two.

Thanks for the words my friend!

Man I’m sorry to hear this happened! Is a blessing for your Pup, & You. It would have been a terrible thing to ; not have answers and something serious happened to her. I hope you get something figured out and it’s all in the past now!

smurfdude1234567's picture

Means a lot my man! Oh 100% highway speed or higher into head-on collision and don’t have anything worse than a concussion? I say that’s damn blessed. Hell many of you know my addiction story, and using fentanyl I have definitely been spared dozens of times that I shouldn’t have. Like I keep saying I almost wish I WAS under the influence or extremely tired or something just to attribute the cause to it. Right now everything is just hypotheticals.

smurfdude1234567's picture

Oh yes all is well. Concussion/bruises/contusions are nothing I didn’t experience from football honestly. I got very very lucky. More concerned about the cause and future seizure risk.

I definitely used up a life if this was a video game or I was a cat lol! Just know if I was in my old Camaro I wouldn’t be here.

No need to get emotional over my dumb ass… I truly appreciate the words though man! We may bicker and talk shit, but it really is a family- this community tugs at my heart strings and I’m not afraid to say it hahaha

Damn dude!!! Make sure drs do a thorough check for clots in your head. Between warnings on vax and the chems we use just to be safe. Glad the pupper was safe! Speedy recovery and get rested.

smurfdude1234567's picture

Yessir they did MRI with contrast on head and CT with contract on chest/abdominal. Doc said bleeding was nominal pretty normal for concussion/head injury and not to worry about it- just not to do anything too strenuous and keep a close eye for next week or two. I threw up most of the stomach dark blood I believe.

My pupils upon admit were 4mm and 7mm they thought the head injury was much worse than it turned out to be. They also said that the confused/slow state I was in could be leftover effects from having a seizure or shock on top of the concussion.

Was only 20 minutes away or so from a Level 1 trauma center so luckily have a really good team of people around me.
