Gym etiquette

ad

Can someone please explain to me why people feel they need to get right on the cardio machine next to you when there is a whole empty row of the same machines. I'm sweating and breathing heavy and have some jackass practically up my ass when there are plenty of other machines available with space between us. Biggest gym pet peeve right next to people blocking the dumbbell rack when doing their sets.

Can't say, I'm 100% this guy

JakeKO's picture

I can go on about this all day. How about the people who text for five minutes between sets??? It’s like, get off the fuckin’ bench if you want to text for that long. Nothing wrong with a quick text, but wtf with these Instagram posting selfie mooks?

press1's picture

Yep - people are more obsessed with taking pictures of themselves than lifting proper weights these days. Back when I first got into training going to the gym was all about how quickly you could get to some respectable lifting numbers, now its about how quickly can I get a picture up on the Internet - hence why we have so many dickheads taking steroids that shouldn't be.

I hate it too, but noticed for the most part that it tends to be machine preference. Hardcore/OCD cardio fans tend to like using the same exact machine every time. Even though machines look exactly alike, there could be small differences in the programs/functions that you and I don’t even notice. You won’t realize it until someone does it to you and is now on your Creep radar. Pay attention after that, and you’ll say to yourself “That creep is on that same machine again today.” Don’t get me wrong though, some people are straight up creepy and want to imagine what your Liver tastes like with a side of Fava Beans and a nice Chianti, LOL! My major peeve is the naked dude doing stretch exercises in the sauna/steam room. I fucking hate that dude!!!

i actually has a guy jump on my squat rack tonight when i went for a drink my weight belt and towel hanging on the barbell with 315 on it. i come back and this ass is doing hanging leg raises... i said im squatting clearly this rack is being used i added weight and did a rage set once he fucking moved

ericnonaya's picture

mine is some one pulling weight from my squat rack mid set with 300 something pounds on my back fucking assholes! or worse some doosh curling in one of three squat racks in the gym makes for some serious anger i just want to bash their head in with a dumbell is that weird of me?

mTor's picture

Half benches! Half squatters! They are the worst! They strut like they're hot shit but they have stooped shoulders and tiny pecs!
The best was one asked me for a spot for his PR and he has 365 on and he goes down halfway and can't get it back up so after about 10 secs I grabbed the bar. He looked at me all pissed and asked why I didn't help sooner and I just replied "I was waiting for you to actually bench, not just bend your elbows a little"

JakeKO's picture

How about the Bench Steppers??? I always want to say “Hey Douchebag, that’s why we have benches with ripped vinyl, you selfish dick!”

IrishMack's picture

"I was waiting for you to actually bench, not just bend your elbows a little" LOL!! I cant even count how many times I see this on a daily basis.

I hate the people at the gym that want to start and continue a lengthy conversation while you are trying to workout. I few words is fine but I am not there to socialize the entire time I am at the gym

JakeKO's picture

Those are the guys that tell everyone their workouts are three hours long, yet still look like shit! I have a friend like this. I ask him what time he’s lifting today so I’m not at the gym at the same time he is. Very inconvenient because he is literally at the gym for three hours. If I was at the gym for that long five days a week and looked like that, my wife would be stalking the gym, LOL

Last time I had a discussion about gym etiquette some young lad came over from one end of the gym where he was busy chatting on the phone and said "sorry I'm using that".

My answer: "not anymore you're not"

Weakclumzoof's picture

i have always trained at home between this and the post about the antics in the locker room it sounds like a nightmare training in a public gym it is amazing anyone could make any gains having to put up with all that goes on in these buildings

People blocking the dumbbell racks strikes a nerve with me as well. They all seem to want to do their sit ups, leg flutters and jump rope right behind what I call the college star rack. This is the 105 to 150lb dumbbell section and It seems I'm one of the few who use them in my gym. Pain in the arse to have to carry 150's 30 feet across the gym to an open bench. I guess I'm getting an overall workout doing this but dang I'm late 40's and on Tren so I'm out of breathe before my set even starts! I've tried getting my wife to carry them for me but she has some lame excuse about they weigh more than her. LOL

Haha funny, u need to do weight training and when u see him come near start ure set and start growling and making under pressure faces, finish ure set up like be all pumped and then look at him and if he's watching tall him WTF are u looking at? Bet that solves the problem

This kid was standing in front of something I wanted to use at the gym. He had no weight on it and was just staring into space. I asked if he was using it and he looked at me looked back at it for about ten seconds then back at me and was like "umm... Yea?" I wasn't too happy. I gave him mean look and rhetorically asked "had to think about it?!" And walked off. So frustrating

I'm glad to see that there are others who are just as intolerant of others as I am. I feel so much better now! ;-)
I do five miles on the elliptical before I lift and there are at least 20 of these machines in my gym. For about a month, there was an older oriental woman who would always come to the machine next to me to work out. There would literally be no one else using the other 19 machines, but she would come next to me every time. Then she would proceed to do all kinds of strange routines on the machine. Just pure annoyance. Luckily she just disappeared one day. No, I had nothing to do with it....

Lmao!!

My gym just recently acquired a jackass that sets up stations all around the gym for some pointless circuit bullshit, and literally blocks about 40% of the gym equipment while hes there. When that happens I just use whatever I want regardless of if its part of his retarded workout, and when he comes back to where I am, he looks at me and just moves on because he doesn't want me to tren rage all over his ass

superman75's picture

this right here jg gets my shit boiling over anything most, I think lol, inconsiderate fuck tards setting up circuit shop in the free weights and dumbbell area's. no Clark Kent, straight up superman on there ass.

irishbnsf13's picture

I prefer the treadmill behind you. ;)

lol..... me too!

eastcoastmuscle's picture

Omg i made the mistake of staring into space one day, then i caught myself and realized i was staring in this guys general direction, ever since then its like this weird dynamic going on where the guy is always trying to put himself in my line of sight and always trying to make eye contact with me. i can feel him staring at me , its so creepy.. wtf some people are wacky lol

IrishMack's picture

SHIT!! So thats why that guy in my gym followed me to the locker room.

awagz's picture

How about when you are doing cardio and someone sits next to you on their phone the whole time walking/peddling at 2mph, chatting up a storm? Usually I have headphones in but if I don't, that shit is annoying as fuck

After some time if its the same people doing the same stupid shit every day; they get used to seeing you. We have these guys in our gym that follow people around and whatever set they were doing they would follow right behind and do the same thing; except try and go heavier. its funny because they will only do the set when others are watching them. I literally asked them after they did that with me if they were trying to prove something. These are the guys that get in the way of the free weights so they can stare at themselves in the mirror. Fkn hate that shit. I guess they look at how big you are or whatever and think by mimicking your moves they will be the same; a bunch of followers.

awagz's picture

That's the same as going to the urinal right next to you...every other one is protocol, no neighbors needed...My biggest pet peeve ? When Johnny 150lber is doing deads or cleans and needs to throw the barbell down and scream like he's getting ass raped, and he's only got 135 on the bar...SMH every gym has one...

My pet peace is the copycats. The arc trainers were all but ignored until we started hitting them hard, now of course they are super popular. SMH!
