Came here to recommend this, Red Rising is fuckin legit. And stormlight is definitely a slow burn at first, but fuck it's worth it. After storm light I went down the entire Brandon Sanderson cosmere rabbit hole and it's a fuckin ride when you start putting the pieces together. If you're into anime/martial arts stuff also check the cradle series by will wight, up there as my one of my all time favorites, multiple re-reads and listens.
I needed this encouragement. The second chapter did give me a little taste of what's to come, I generally go into books not knowing anything. I take a slight recommendation and then figure it out from there, don't even read the synopsis. This one def has anime ninja vibes which I didn't expect but it'll be a good change.
Without spoiling anything, after stormlight 1 read Warbreaker before stormlight 2. It's a standalone book that's great in it's own right. There is one sentence in stormlight 2 that if you've read Warbreaker first will make you go WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS GOING ON and make you rethink what you know. Absolutely fuckin worth it.
