Coronavirus and working out

ad

Does anyone that's currently training at the gym during the pandemic actually think you can do it safely without the risk of acquiring the virus. I know that no matter how cautious I am, its only a matter of time before I could possibly expose myself to it.

If you feel differently. Please share why

I work out and there have been absolutely zero cases or outbreaks at gyms. I would be more worried about protesters screaming in each others faces inches apart, strip clubs, packed bars and block parties at the colleges. Every body gets to do what they want and live their life partying and burning but I’m expected to stay home? Fuck that. Of its out there your going to catch ot from some body partying probably not at a gym where they make you take your temperature, wear a mask and fill out a bunch of questions. You know, the gym, the place where people are worried about those health and not worried about getting wasted.

And here comes the silliness. Time to close it

i think it 100% relies on the gym and how closely they follow the CDC guidelines as well as the members. if you have members who don't wipe down their equipment after use (shoulda been doing this before corona) and are constantly in each others faces you won't be safe. if the gym doesn't properly clean the equipment themselves or provide cleaning supplies, yeah it wont be safe.

my gym only has around 10 people at a time and everyone basically stays away from each other and wipes down equipment. the staff mops the floor every hour and does routine cleaning. is this 100% safe? no, we're still at risk. is it safer than these major gym chains that don't care and hit member capacity? oh yea. you wont be 100% safe from acquiring the virus

stay away from each other, wipe down your stuff, and lift heavy.

Do you not think it depends on the gym and the number of members in it at any given point? If I'm alone at 5am in a warehouse of a gym with a filtered HVAC system and sanitizer am I at more or less risk than someone working out in a cramped, hot gym with people queueing up to use the equipment?

...actually think...

Yes, I actually think people should follow the CDC guidelines and exercise common sense. Sounds like you are taking too many risks and not listening to your gut when it comes to going outside.

I am just going to close this one before it turns into an argument. The answer to the OP's question tho, is No.

...thin[k] that the current protocols are actually going to keep you from acquiring the virus.

No, they are not going to keep you from getting the virus. They are going to GREATLY reduce the risk of you SPREADING the virus.

If an infected person is 20 feet away and has a cough that can quickly spread to you and fill the room with droplets. Wearing a mask greatly reduces that. (When we talk spit can travel 6 to 7 feet without a mask.)

Hence, the mask isn't going to protect you so much as it protects others by reducing your ability to spread the virus when you talk, sneeze, or cough.

When an infected person is within your "zone" droplets that escape their mask can get around yours or even enter through your eyes.

It comes down to this, and I've said it before. USE COMMON SENSE.

If you're in a gym where people are huffing and puffing and sweating, you might want to make sure they are wearing a mask and are way further away than 6 feet because what they are doing is more like a sneeze than talking.

So do you get it now? Can we stop beating this dead horse?
