Consciousness

What's your best description of Consciousness?

DragonDog's picture

The I that creates the is.

simonmagus84's picture

How about the" I "who imagines before he creates.

DragonDog's picture

Perhaps, one in the same. At the very least a part or function of the self. Instincts', modified instincts', and created instincts' value are determined in relation to their returns, and their alignment to other parts and to the whole.

When i king hit people in the head and their brain knocks into the side of their skull.

Thats " concussion" to me.

Oh yes the ayahuasca ,The refined DMT is suppose to be a lot better, without the vomiting, though you may shit your pants.

simonmagus84's picture

Pharmahuasca is good too, they're capsules of baseified alkaloids of both the Maori and DMT derivative

Greg's picture

Ask yourself, "Who am I?"
Then ask, "Who's asking the question?"

DragonDog's picture

And that my friends is who we should be talking with, the ones that know this part.

Its that movement you haven't had a soda all cycle, then you take you first gulp, and you can't help but to jerk your head back and fourth as your throat burns.

Dmt is the closest answer to consciousness I've ever come across but I still can't explain it!
Also Morgan freeman does an amazing documentary called 'through the wormhole' series two has an episode called sixth sense! It try's to prove we are all somewhat connected, it's mind blowing, highly recommend watching it

Mind at Large is a concept from The Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell by Aldous Huxley.
Both books are worth reading.

simonmagus84's picture

Any of you ever read works on manly P Hall? He speaks of the doors of perception as well

Faz's picture

I didn't know that, I will have to get reading. Thanks!

simonmagus84's picture

I have to see that

Faz's picture

It's on YouTube. Honestly it will blow your mind. It's more fact based than theory, the scientists in it are actually credible too.

giardap's picture

Nobody knows what consciousness is or where/how it occurs, other than to say it is probably/possibly a quantum-biological effect/product of the brain, possibly within small tubules
Therefore it is currently impossible to accurately describe consciousness

Manshit's picture

I watched a video of Joe Rogan saying that DMT made him aware of his,and changed the way he felt about everything.I think its called "The God Particle".

simonmagus84's picture

No, that's the Higgs boson. You're talking about the spirit molecule. I got you

Manshit's picture

yes you are correct

Christophany's picture

The problem is, those enlightened states are fleeting. As time goes on, most people tend to forget their trip experiences.

You lose that sense of connection with the universe after it wears off.

Oh, and Psilocybe Cyanescens can provide quite the wonderful experience as well. ;)

(Metaphysical)......existing......becoming awake.......becoming more aware as consciousness ever expands and evolves.......then enlightened Smile

Consent.....

Really I think consciousness is more primal than we believe, and we're very out of touch with it. It's hard to embrace when we force ourselves into the ideaologies of social constructs. Religion, our careers, social status, pretty much everything is fabricated bullshit. None of these social constructs really align, and we're left with this mess we call society.

Limitations.

For most people, consciousness is Mon-Fri before hitting the bars.

It's a faculty of the central nervous system. Out of my league to explain further, buy I highly doubt it's anything ethereal. I don't believe in a "soul" or "spirit" or anything like that.

TrenAllDay's picture

Talk to a medium then say you don't believe in a soul or spirit.

helloBrooklyn's picture

Oh yes. My fiancée is really big into those. Swears by them. I think they're charlatans, and that's exactly what I tell her. Skilled charlatans, but charlatans nevertheless. Let's say a medium did impress me, making it seem as though he or she indeed held knowledge from beyond the bounds of our plane of existence. Very well. It would still just be an illusion to me. Cold reading is a skill like any other, and I can respect the understanding of human psychology and salesman-esque chops that it takes to appear esoteric. But, there're still peddlers of false hope to me, giving people who need something--anything--to have closure, exactly that. If the mind wants it badly enough, any chicanery flies.

Now I would counter with, go watch an illusionist and say you don't believe in magic.

And

TrenAllDay's picture

I would go into detail and argue that it's not what you say, but you can't argue with the close-minded.

Maybe put a little trust into your fiancée and give it a shot, just may give you another outlook on life!
