I want to rate some sources and need some karma. Im sure its to combat spammers but im going to admit this is getting annoying because how do i even get it?

Not the way to go about it.
You'll get grief from a mod for "trading karma", it's against the rules. People have been penalised for unfairly bumping each other up.
