+ 3 Any Hunters here?

ad

Just curious if anyone here hunts. Or am I the only one from September to January who lives in the woods when I’m not working or hitting the gym?

TankMech78's picture

That’s a nice one!

Khandum's picture

Nope no animal hunting, only pussy hunting or bussy hunting if that’s the way you swing. I know many of y’all go both ways anyways lol

Scipeno's picture

Coming in here, I gave it a 50-50 chance that he was actually talking about pussy lol.

I know, but I am lol

I hunt and fish damn near all year birds, ducks, deer, small game doesn't really matter. My boys and I live on the water or in the woods.

Jockstrap's picture

Yup! Bird hunter and eat everything i shoot. There's recird sized big game here but I'm just too lazy to drag and butcher. The local places you can buy butchered beef...elk..bison...deer...hog...etc etc. Small game is just easier imo.

Squatch710's picture

I grew up in moose country with them nobody is impressed you shot it. Getting it out of the woods on to your plate is the hard part with them.

I put in for moose in 4 states every year. Have yet to draw, but racking up those preference points.

Squatch710's picture

Did you try NH? They came pretty easy there when I was there. That was a long time ago though.

TankMech78's picture

Every year. I think I’m up to 6 or 7 preference points.

Squatch710's picture

Wow 20 years really changes a place I guess. Shit I thought I was going to go all day without saying something that made me feel old.

Jockstrap's picture

I've heard the meat is excellent!! Fill 2 fridges for sure!! Love elk and ate a lot of deer etc. Gotta try moose some day

Squatch710's picture

It kinda depends on what they have been eating but that is all about where you choose to hunt them.

Our here the deer have thousands of acres of corn. Maybe i just need to try bigger game again

Lived a better life than any farm animal and died faster and more humanely than any farm raised chicken, cow, or pig. Plus I don’t really like fatty cuts of meat so deer and elk are perfect for my diet. Sadly I can’t kill enough per season to make it my sole meat source…

OscarWildwood's picture

I need 3/year to last me and the wife. It’s not our sole source of protein, but it’s durn near. Only got 2 last year and the freezers been empty a couple months now. Ready for bow season to kick off!

You Tight Bastard!

SeeOhShow's picture

We had to stop eating pork in my house after my wife watched some video of industrial scale farm raised pigs for slaughter. Industrial farming, while necessary to feed the population, is what is truly evil to animals.

TeaBody's picture

The new FARM Bill (US) allows pig farmers to but pigs in cages that dont even allow them to turn around (maximize space)... that is disgusting

SeeOhShow's picture

Like it said, industrial scale farming is truly evil. But there’s only one way to produce meat in the quantity needed to sustain our population. I can’t bitch about it when I go to the store and buy 5-10lbs of beef and chicken every week

Squatch710's picture

Pig farms like that are evil to way more then just the pigs it rains shit in the town the farms are in amongst other horrible stuff

Had an emergency response back during Hurricane Mathew that happened to be right next to a pig farm. I will never forget that smell. Nor do I know how any of those people could live there. No way olfactory fatigue blocks that scent

Squatch710's picture

I responded to a event at a dairy farm where we pulled a guy with a broken hip out of Olympic size pool vat of cow shit. It was like a cut scene from a saw movie.

I did some welding at a pig farm for slaughter. They're in spaces so small they have inches to move in any direction. When their food came, every pig screamed . Im pretty confident they're insane. The Piglets that dont grow to a certain size in a certain time frame are killed by someone grabbing the hind legs and slamming their heads against the floor...truly made me consider becoming a vegetarian.

TankMech78's picture

Best protein source there is! Our state basically gives us unlimited doe tags, and a season from Sept to April.

SeeOhShow's picture

April?! Goddamn. I’d be able to get my necessary amount with that kind of window. I just grind the entire thing. Mostly plain ground and about 1/4 as breakfast sausage. Deer sausage, even with fat added, is still leaner than that shitty jimmy dean at the store. My wife loves sausage, egg, cheese biscuits in the morning with that breakfast sausage

TankMech78's picture

I typically make sausage in 50 lb batches. I do smoked sausage, summer sausage, and breakfast sausage. But we do a lot of primal cuts. I fill the freezer before I decide on sausage and jerky.

SeeOhShow's picture

If you could just feel the jealousy through the internet… I used to do the primals but had kids and got lazy. Much easier to just slap tubes of ground on the pan and mix it with rice for all my personal meals. Or the occasional chili. There’s a maple pumpkin chili my wife loves that I make every fall. Sounds off putting but it’s delicious

press1's picture

No, I don't 'hunt' defenceless animals with a telescopic sight and feel happiness from sticking a bullet in them.

Greg's picture

Of course not. De fence keeps them trapped so someone else can hit them over the head with a hammer so you can have the privilege of meat without dealing with all that death nonsense.

No08's picture

Yeah. Meat bought at the store is far more humane. Definitely no animals harmed in that process either.

press1's picture

After all the help I've given you after your many PM's to me over the years - I never learn.

No08's picture

Yes, you have helped me over the years and I am still grateful. However, nothing I said was meant to be angry or malicious. Nor was it untrue.

You are accusing not only me but my wife and lots of other people here of being some bloodthirsty murderous psychopaths that kill for fun and fun alone. All of that is simply untrue and any attempt to refute that claim simply seems to bring out a tremendous amount of hatred from you.

If you disagree or dislike something someone does, it’s very simple to express that without becoming emotionally charged, insulting, and generally hateful.

The fact of the matter is that it’s obvious to me that you aren’t listening to understand, you are listening to respond, because your mind is made up on this subject.

No amount of anecdotal information or conservation effort statistics that show that hunting is actually good for the herd population - like how introducing wolves into a state park actually increased herd health as the herd was too large and the plant life was unable to sustain a population of that size - will be received warmly with an open mind. It would likely only generate more of your rage.

You’re not here to learn. You’re not here to debate. You’re here to insult, demean, and demonize people who do things that you perceive as evil, with no concern to the possibility that your perceptions may perhaps be based on emotion and prejudice…not facts and understanding.

I’ll never convince you that hunting is actually a good way to preserve herd health, animals harvested ethically experience a much quicker death than they would should they die of natural means, or that hunters feel a deep connection and empathy towards their harvest and that they have an incredible respect for the sacrifice that animal made. It’s a deeper connection than just buying meat at a grocery store.

I notice you unfriended me because of this and I’m actually really saddened. Not because I won’t have access to your advice anymore, but because the hatred in your heart is so powerful.

Like I said before, you weren’t here to debate or learn or politely disagree. You came to demonize, insult, and lash out emotionally. For someone who was preaching empathy, I’m sure you can imagine how I felt when you ascribed all those negative aspects towards me and my family, and lots of others here. It hurt, man. It hurt to see you carrying hatred.

Anyways, @press1, I still love you, man. I’m sorry we don’t see eye to eye. I’m sorry you won’t hear me out. I’m sorry that my opinion enraged you enough to hate me.

I truly hope that you can let go of that hatred. Perhaps attempting to be empathetic and see things from another perspective may help you understand those you hate. If and when you ever decide you want to understand the views of people you consider to be murderous psychopaths.

I can see your point of view. I used to share it. But once I understood why people hunt, my views changed.

If your views never change, @press1, I will still love and respect you. It just hurts to see that much hatred in you, and it hurts even more when you direct it towards me, my family, and so many members of this community. Mostly it hurts me to see you carrying hate because I’ve carried a tremendous amount of hatred in my life and I know exactly what it feels like.

Guns are illegal in the uk. So how would you even hunt?

Squatch710's picture

Their breath they kill the deer with their breath

press1's picture

Many people own shotguns and go pheasant, rabbit hunting etc. You need a licence for the gun which is very hard to obtain - have to have no criminal record or convictions, Police have to visit your property and make sure its extremely secure and alarmed directly to the police, secure gun cabinet etc.

Jockstrap's picture

Here we have more freedom but sometimes finding spots to hunt can be iffy.

TankMech78's picture

I’m a bowhunter.

press1's picture

Still - Killing an animal who is only trying to eat and live makes you feel good. Sick

Jockstrap's picture

But you'll eat pussy when she was just trying to live...lol

JohnnyHardGuy's picture

Grow up dude. Seriously. Humans are the most ethical hunters to ever exist. A coyote will rip open a baby fawns guts and eat while it is still alive while feeling zero remorse.

'Did someone order a Cunt? Cos one's just shown up.

Why am I not surprised you agree with all this.

TankMech78's picture

I hunt for meat. I’m sorry if that offends you. I choose to organic meat from the land where I live instead of buying my meat from the grocery store. I could spend hours talking to you about conservation, habitat, endangered species, disease management, and on and on, but as soon as you commented I knew that it was pointless. It’s all good. Good day sir.

press1's picture

So you put an arrow through lets say a Deer, you go over to it because it hasn't died instantly and its there laid on its side bleeding out and taking its last dying breaths wondering what its done wrong whilst looking at you - how does that not make you feel insanely sad or guilty about what you have just done??

No08's picture

That’s a much quicker death than it would experience naturally. Some animals don’t even know they were hit with an arrow if the shot is good enough and close enough. They just get dizzy and fall over.

In a promo × 1
TankMech78's picture

Who said it doesn’t? But I also recognize that the state I live in is massively overpopulated with deer. Without culling the herd, deer would starve to death, disease would rise. Where I live you typically can’t drive more than a mile or two without seeing a dead deer on the side of the road from being hit by a car. But I must ask you, why keep this back and forth going? Are you vegan? Do you own a grocery store? Do you eat beef or chicken? Just wondering what your angle is here.

Greg's picture

You think a deer wonders what it did wrong?

Deer god, what did I do wrong to deserve this?

press1's picture

No, but I'm pretty sure it feels pretty bloody bad when its got an arrow stuck through its lung and is steadily suffocating to death. People who can do this and not feel sad about the suffering animal in front of them have No Soul whatsoever. I will never understand how anyone can get their kicks out of this sick shit.

Married_Dick's picture

Just out of curiosity. Do you think factory farms and the way animals are raised stuck in tiny cramped areas with little to no movement their whole life while being force fed stuff that is super unhealthy for them. To eventually be hauled to a processing plant, shot in the head with a bolt gun, then hung up, their necks slit, and shocked with electricity to be drained of all blood and relax the muscles, etc... Do you think that is all more humane and better for the animal than harvesting one that has lived a free and healthy life? Without hunting and conservation efforts, animals such as deer tend to become way overpopulated which leads to inbreeding and all kinds of genetic diseases, the herd becomes way more vulnerable to viruses, etc... A couple hundred years ago everyone had to harvest and process their own meat. I'm not asking this to be a smart ass, etc... Just legitimately trying to understand your perspective. We all come from different walks of life and from my side, it feels as if it is more humane and respectful of the animal to harvest one yourself with a well placed shot. Where you are aware of the weight of taking a life and what that means towards feeding your family. In comparison to being so disconnected you think meat just magically appears in packages in the store without animals being hurt. "I used that example because I seen a woman upset with hunters in a video because they could have went to the store and bought the meat where it was made instead of harvesting a animal for it."
