Alcohol and how it has made me a fat slob again

ad

I dropped from 300lbs to 198 and was good and healthy now im back up to 260 and fat. its depressing as hell. The only time I have been sober is when I was on probation with the law and couldn't drink, I also was able to get into great shape during these bouts of trouble with the law. Now that im off paper I usually get drunk at minimum 2x a week, i mean belligerently drunk to where I eat non stop while hungover and while drinking. I am now fat again and depressed, my confidence is completely gone, im lazy, i feel ugly, its horrible.

Why can I not stay sober? Ill lift good and eat zero carb for 4 days while im on shift for work and after that everything goes out the window, Ill get off work start getting drunk and im completely fuked for the next 4 days til i go back to work and repeat the cycle.

Anyone got any tips? I loved being in shape getting attention from girls, looking good, feeling confident, but I also love drinking alcohol and socializing. Any help would be appreciated.

Im honestly considering running another cycle to get back into great shape because I will not drink on cycle i know that is not something i should use as a crutch but maybe it could help? i dont know im just tired of feeling like crap but i know im an alcoholic and AA and shit like that dont work, only the gym has ever worked or being in trouble.

I know a lot of people who are drunks/addicts and I've been there myself.
I would look into a 12 step program and go to meetings and meet people who actually want to quit.
Bottoms line is that you gotta want it bad enough to quit.
I'm almost 3 years clean from my addiction bro and yeah I still get urges but I don't act on them anymore because of the support group I have behind me.

You clearly have the willpower to stop or you wouldn't have done so during probation. So you're stronger than you think. You said you wouldn't drink on cycle? So actually you can stop....

I used to drink hard- got the wife pregnant and she couldn't drink so I didn't either and I hardly do now. I used to smoke cigarettes but stopped for the same reason. Drugs I stopped years before after a fight where I lost control. Just need to find the reason to stop, which you have. Don't swap drink for roids. Swap it for a different level of focus, structured training and eating good healthy food, even when it's a chore.
I have to be honest, I don't drink at all now (except a small bottle of beer this Christmas)- I get soft drinks instead and I tell the guys I don't drink. They don't question it.
One of the guys said to try cooking. It sounds simple but trust me, when you eat as much protein as you can you'll want variety at meal time!

I know AA doesn't work for everyone, but find someone you can talk your shit out to. It may be a mate, priest, girlfriend, whatever. Took me a long time to find the right ear to speak to. Stay strong!

I think you are on the wrong forum. steroids aren't for you Sir.
I've used this as motivation once or twice. May be you can too:

You're able to not drink when you're on probation and know that you will be tested.

And when you're not on probation you have no control to stop drinking.

On second thought,...... I'm with Flash, you need to grow a pair.

Adversity in this life is one of the things that cause you to grow as a person. Your choice, man up or fail and repeat.

You need to quit drinking if you don't want to be fat and here's why... Alcohol contains no fat but during the digestion process it converts to acetate in your body, So now your body uses it as fuel instead of carbs, fats, and proteins so these get left behind and stored... this is why alcohol makes you fat.

Any help would be appreciated.

Consult with a lawyer, plead guilty to someone else's bullshit misdemeanor, take the long (endless) probation instead of county jail time option.

Problem solved.

Be careful not to replace one addiction with another.

Listen brother, I know aa/na is not for every one but it would at least be a good place to start and couldn't hurt. I said the same thing you did, at the time I just didn't want admit to MYSELF that I needed to be there. There are other ways but from my experience it's shown to be the most successful long term. It would at least get you a foundation of recovery and a support network and give you an idea what's going on and why you drink. If you decide to you don't need it anymore or have another way of staying clean then coolat least you'll have gotten clean. I promise it's less miserable then where your at now. I'm An addict and na is the only thing that works for me. I actually had to give it a chance and actually work on it before it did. But my life in recovery today is FUCKING INCREDIBLE! ! I'm in Florida at Disney I took my family today. 4 years ago I was 6ft5 200lbs and serving my 3rd prison number homeless and fuct. Give it a chance bro. There it's also a recovery group here s well check it out. Good luck off you need anything hit me up. I can help you connect with a meeting where you live and people.

It'll take a lot of willpower on your part. Take yourself to an AA meeting, get a sponsor, work the steps and figure out the root of why you drink. The alcohol is just a symptom of a much bigger overall program. Trust me when I say I know it's hard. I was in and out of the rooms of AA for a couple years before I got my head out of my ass. But as everyone said do not cycle until you first have your alcoholism under control. Then get your diet down and then some blood work before deciding to cycle again. You don't need the unnecessary stress on your body or mind right now.

Not a good reason for running AAS man.

kibby's picture

Only YOU can put an end to this vicious cycle.

The truth is its easier to get hammered than go to the gym and get fit/healthy.

Alcohol is an horrendous drug if abused will destroy the strongest of minds.

You need to decide what you want more an alcoholics lifestyle or a bodybuilder/gymrats lifestyle.

Go to your doctor and seek help but ultimately the final decision has to made by you.

You've got a family on here 24/7 when you need to reach out do so! We can get through this together man ;)

So then what happens when you are done with the cycle......you start drinking again and end up right back where you are now.

You need to fix the root of your problem which is the drinking. Sounds like you need a support group to get it under control.

Alcohol is a real mother fucker bro, I been there done that... I had my first born and RARELY drink now, my kids keep me motivated to stay myself.. Not some drunk guy smoking cigs n blacking out etc...

Just have to quit, stop hanging around people who you drank with and take it a day at a time bro!

Shit I'm fighting cigs right now, my 3yr old told me she wanted me to quit for her Christmas present, so yeah I haven't smoked in little over 3 weeks, it's hard, but fuck cigs.

Good luck

I would recommend talking to your doctor if you cannot control your drinking. They may refer you to a therapist and either your regular doctor or the therapist could help you with nedication that can help to curb the desire to drink. I think "Naltrexone" is the most prescribed for this application.

TheFlash85's picture

Yes, grow some balls, and dont drink, simple.

zeb0312's picture

Really....... Alcohol is a drug like anything else and sounds like you have had no exsperience with it destroying people and there lives......

Why would you make a comment like that......

And no I didn't neg you either.....

TheFlash85's picture

Coz its the truth, grow balls and quit or be a pussy and whinge about it on a steroid review site.

I was an alcoholic for.most of my.life, It runs in my family. To this day my brothers and sister are still alcoholics in denial. 1 day I woke up and went in my kitchen and dumped all my booze down the sink. That was 4 years ago and I never once have a craving to get drunk or even drink. You can quit cold turkey anything. I even quit cigarettes after smoking for 30 years. Same thing, I took my smokes and crushed them. I am not special, I had no support group, I said I was fkn tired of it and that was it. Addiction is a bitch, but if people here tell this guy running cycles will cure him will only turn him into a Steroid junkie. You cannot replace one addiction with another, it's a recipe for disaster. All around this place are posts after posts of guys who were addicted to pills or heroin or whatever that now they replaced their addiction with steroids hence Steroid junkie. They now blast and cruise without even a fkn care in the world and looking at their self pics you see no gains at all. So all I did was man the fuck up and drop it. Been alcohol free 4 years and smokes for a year. Coming up with excuses is a lot harder then quitting. Alcoholism is a disease and the cure is not drinking anymore plain and simple.

zeb0312's picture

True. My mom has smoked all her life I told her that it's bad for her, she said I know but I like it.. now she is on oxygen...

You're right someone can only quit what ever it may be a addiction or anything in life when they are ready and no one else....

I think when there pushed to quit it makes it worse.....

IrishMack's picture

Same with my mom, it took cancer to finally make her stop smoking, one of my friend's it took liver cirrhosis to make him finally quit. You should never ask yourself why do you keep drinking or doing drugs, the question you need to ask yourself is what is the reason why.

zeb0312's picture

Good point, there always a reason for everything..
I agree should find the source and not just try to put band aid on it....

Just like alot of other things like shootings or other....

Just awhile back guy shot some people and the guy never was in trouble in his life and didn't have a record..... Police arrested him on trial for several murder counts, but not once has it been said what caused him to snap, it's just a murder case.....

Something or someone caused him to do this people just don't do shit for no reason like this dude did.....

JL's picture

It may not be the most tactful way of saying quit. But I agree. Op has to be strong and make the decision himself. Only the person fighting the addiction can make the choice to quit. It all starts within ones self. Tough love.

jr42160's picture

Agreed! Some people will never understand. Alcohol causes more damage and destruction than any other drug.

zeb0312's picture

First thing is first...... Your biggest concern right now is getting the alcohol under control at this point nothing else is more important that period.....

I have been on the other end and seen alcohol destroy not only the users but there family and friends as well who doesn't drink....

That being said I was raised in that mess and that is one if the reasons I never wanted to do it because I seen the destruction it does.....

Alcohol is the biggest drug period in my opinion readily available on any corner where anyone lives and is pushed by the government and states.... That part is a fucking disaster money money money for them us all they see......

Get the alcohol under control first....

Start the new year off right get help and get sober bro.....

Peace and be safe....

You do not take steroids to get back in shape. You're supposed to get back in shape on your own and then take steroids when you cannot genetically grow anymore.

For me it was like a switch. One day I just shut it off. It wasn't anything in particular. I was just done. Once I started reinforcing that way of thinking to myself one week turned into 2 weeks, into a month and so on.. I also removed myself from people that would encourage my poor choices wheather they were doing it intentionally or not. Over time it gets easier. I will say the hardest part is learning to be me without alcohol in social gatherings. This took time and got easier as I made more and more new friends that were not part of that previous life. Happy New Years bro and stay strong!

zeb0312's picture

Right on bro.....it's the biggest drug period and it's legal along with tobacco it's to big money for the government and states not push it....

Both go hand in hand........

smfh......

Ronburgundy's picture

As jr42160 mentioned, a cycle is not ur answer and shouldn't be used to get back in shape. Make it your new year's resolution to quit drinking and once you hit a significant milestone ( i.e. 6 months sober), reward yourself with a cycle. I don't have an addictive personality so I can't directly relate, but you are the boss of your body and if you want something bad enough, you have to make it happen. Good luck and happy new year!

jr42160's picture

I would highly recommend against starting a cycle to help quit alcohol. I've struggled on and off with it for 15 years. I had one 6 year stretch of sobriety & now working on a 2 yr stretch. I am an atheist so AA doesn't make sense to me with all the higher power stuff. It does work for some though so give it a shot if thats something you think might help. I found some useful information in the SMART recovery program. With that being said, the one thing that helps me most is going to the gym everyday. Sat, Sun, any days off. Even if its just to stretch, sit in sauna, ride bike.... It makes me feel like I have achieved something for the day & is that much easier to avoid that first drink. Get your head on straight & some sober time under your belt before adding anything else to the mix. One of the hardest things for me to do is distance myself from the people I drink with, but I am successful at not drinking when i do. Probably lose some relationships, but IMO none of those are worth my health or my freedom. Good luck bro. Every day without a drink makes the next easier. Many paths forward, none back!!
