Weak Knees!
ad
I have been doing weighted squats lately and noticed its starting to do a number on my knees which are not that strong to begin with. Can anyone give me some advice on what I can do to put less pressure on them? Please do not give me advice to stop doing squats because its not an option for me. Thank you!

dickjuiceDon't bother with knee wraps unless u go really heavy remember u want strengthen then keep at it maybe try tb-500 help with many injures
Find a somebody that has track recored of sqaut u could have your feet in the wrong place or bar to high could be a number of things but. Your knees will get stronger and just supp up
Continuous correct form exercise is definitely the right path to strengthening your knees. As you grow stronger the pain should be less present. I had the same problem a few years ago and introduced glucosamine (used to reduce joint pain) via the recommendation of a friend who trained. Over time with continuous training and taking glucosamine I found I no longer had knee pain. This was roughly 5 years ago. I haven't taken glucosamine for a few years now but have found since I've started upping my weights and started running I've had some knee pain, so will be adding glucosamine back in until it subsides again.
Ty
The form is on point now.
there are a lot of issues.. .. where is the bar on your back? is it up high on your neck or down low on the back.. I have horrible knees from years of abuse playing various sports.. what kind of shoes are you wearing? how wide is your stance? a wider stance puts less pressure on the knees.. I saw someone suggest squatting on the smith machine but the machine does not allow for natural body movement and thus makes my knee issues worse.. ... try this.. flat shoes for one, like chuck taylors from converse.. have some one video tape you when you squat.. hit you tube and look for the videos on form for squatting .. If I have time and remember .. I ll try to find some of the better ones for you to watch.. the main thing is going to be form though .. once you get your form down then add weight .. weight before form is just an accident waiting to happen
Thank you for the advice. I do see power lifters in my gym wearing chucks so I will have to go get some sometime next weekend. I am trying wider stance now and seems to be helping.
I've actually dislocated my knee so on days that mine is giving me trouble I squat on the smith machine. Moderate weight and take a step out. Don't let knees go past your toes as you go down. The step out takes a lot of the pressure off the knees and also lowers back. Picked up that tip from an older guy at the gym and it has really helped me on days I didn't even think i would be able to squat. When i do those, moderate weight and high reps. Gets the quads and the butt burning!
This might be elementary but are you already taking fish oil or a similar supplement? When I get elbow or hip pain during leg and chest workouts, I up my fish oil intake to 2x or 3x and it seems to help.
No I haven't and I honestly just started taking a multi vitamin. I will try the fish oil though. Good for you so I will definitely try it. Thank you
AnonCould be a number of things. Do you have prior injuries or knee issues? I'd look at your squatting form first-- foot placement, technique, speed, bar path, etc... I have noticed that MANY people believe that they have great form, when it actually blows. How long have you been squatting? What weight are you using? Are you using squat rack or a smith machine?
Some people cannot squat because of knee issues and will adjust their leg workouts accordingly... Focusing on lunges, leg press, hack squat, extensions, etc... Strengthening the muscles surrounding the knee will help.

Train SMART and work around injuries if they persist.
No prior knee injuries but sports in high school beat them up for sure. Volleyball etc... Thank you so much for the link. Exactly what I was looking for
AnonIf Kali isn't on your friend list she definitely needs to be along with KodiakGRRL. They definitely know what they're talking about.
Kali is
I will request kodiakgirl. Thank you for the advice
There are specific knee wraps and sleeves to help with this issue. You could also try diff foot positions to take some of the presser off. Have a coach/trainer watch your form, they could make minor tweaks that you don't notice or see.
I blew my knee out in college. Took a while to find the right foot positioning and form. Good luck!
I have been playing around with position and form as we speak. Seems to then place some pressure on my lower back which is a sign I need to do some workouts to get this area stronger. I appreciate the help
I do "sumo squats" on days my knee is bothering me. Not sure if that what they're called but I stole the form from sumo lifts(dead lifts). Feet wide, toes pointed out. It will put almost all the pressure on your glutes n hamstrings.
This sumo squat position with pain medicine and knee brace when I go heavy seem to be helping to relieve pressure. Thank you for the advice
Like!! I will definitely try this. I know I will get the stare down lolll. But I do not care especially if the pressure is directed where I need it...thank you!
Wrap em, take joint meds, i take aleve before hitting legs
Wrap them with tape? Thanks for the advice with aleve but is there something I can do during the squat to prevent pressure. Just looking down the road I do not want to run into an issue where my knees are all messed up. I am increasing weight after each set but of course the knee situation is not helping. Also any advice on workouts for making my knees stronger? I am doing traditional warm up with leg extensions but doesn't seem to be correcting the issue.
AnonNeoprene sleeves work well. I use them for my elbows during any chest or shoulder press movements. They work very well but sometimes honestly I think it's a bit mental as well.
Another tool many lifters use are wraps. You can order them just about anywhere online. Just google knee wraps and look for sales.
Here are some higher end wraps and sleeves for knees

Awesome. Thanks for the site attachment for purchase. Makes things easier. Wasn't sure how effective they were but seem to be working well for you. Maybe now my knees will stop shaking as I push through those last reps when I am trying to burn it out. Appreciated
He is not talking about tape. There are specific knee wraps for doing exercises. You can go to a sporting goods store or find them online for fairly cheap. They are just elastic bands that help support knee joints.
Ah k. Thank you. I have seen those but wasn't sure how well they worked...
