Went from hell to heaven and back again

ad

Hi Everyone,

I always wanted to become a bodybuilder, but due to a serious shoulder injury I was never able to become one even though I tried. I got depressed so I focussed on other talents I had. I'm an IT professional, primarily focussed on Apple. And then when I started my own business back in 2005 I started doing business with the wrong kind of people - even though the business itself was quite successful.
So there I was. In 2009. Bankrupt. With nothing left to lose. So I started picking up the love I lost... Bodybuilding. And boy, what a joyride it became. I gained hard from a thin drug addict weighing only 160 lbs to a monster over 240 lbs in less than 5 years time. I got really huge, and I loved it. And so it was that I also got back in the game starting over and being even more successful in business than before.

Until last year when a tragic car accident almost took my life. The insurance company denying any obligation at all even though I was very well assured and I was not to blame for what happened to me. I broke my neck and since then I have to deal with constant pain, 24/7 losing customers by the hour. The dream came and gone, and so did the fire in my soul to pursue both my career as my favorite sport. But I kept on eating healthy, and even tried to train every once in a while although my body and mind count't handle it because of the lack of energy and the much needed sleep.

I had and still have to deal with medication, sleepless nights and a stressful relationship. But I decided it is time to pick it up again before I lose it all and I have to start all over again. So okay, I gained a bit more body fat. But the muscle is still there and so is the flame to keep on trying. Somehow... I have to try to make it.
So here I am, in an almost desperate cry for some motivation. I even do some exercises just to see how my body reacts on things. I started with my rehabilitation program to see what my body can and cannot do.

I know I lost just about 60 maybe 70% of the person I was before, but I still feel like a bodybuilder, I still look like a bodybuilder and damn... I want to be one again! So I try to overcome my fight with destiny knowing there's a lot I can't do anymore that were so easy for me before. So I ordered a cycle. Starting low on testosterone only, still eating like a beast and stopping by the gym more often even though I lost a lot of what I was used to. But hey, at least i'm trying right?

I just wanna prove to myself - and maybe even to guys out here, that no matter what happens to you there must be something inside you worth living for. Making it all worth while. Trying to love yourself again. Trying to live again. Trying to gain again just some of the things I had to let go. I intend to keep a log here and see where it gets me, just to keep me alive and to help me to motivate myself to become that monster again. And who knows, even more than I was.

Well, the thing is that feelings of depression get a hold of you no matter what in the end. But I believe there's a way to overcome them. But it takes a while because you have to put your priorities in the right order first and try not to get the feeling of a hopeless situation get a hold of you - even when friends or your partner simply aren't able to understand and you're feeling isolated. Also, the fact that I still need some medication getting back to a daily routine is hard, and the lack of energy is a real pain in the ass...

Well, in the end you'll end up getting something, but you have to be damn smart to "outsmart" the tricks these insurance companies try to pull on you. The laws here in Holland are very different from the US to start with. It's not that easy to claim when there's no one else involved. There was simply something left behind on the road. Placed there by God knows who. Then the insurance company is asking impossible questions of why it happened, what is my medical history, who was contacted etc. in the mean while I had obligations regarding my customers trying to get them in contact with others to further continue my work. Unfortunately insuring yourself for these kind of risks when you're independent (not an inc. yet) is very expensive and hard to manage.

At this time, we're in the process of a settlement with the insurance company, but the debts are building up and the customers are gone. Fortunately for me, I had a side business that was already becoming an inc. company and some exciting customers were already taking part of. Which is in fact some sort of subscription to my Cloud related services that already were operational. So that gave me an opportunity to keep that alive, although I was unable to further focus on it's potential.

A settlement also involves risks. After a settlement I can no longer claim any on going problems with rehabilitation that is still not finished. So still, there's a lot to do...
But a final settlement is essential for me by now to close this chapter and pay off the debts and move on. I firmly believe in my own strength and will to carry on and the potential of the current lookout for my company. And of course - The body I managed to keep in tact as much as possible.

Even a bad lawyer could get your medical covered and some cash for future issues. A good one could get you a lot. Why didn't you try this? I would now if you haven't.

I have a great lawyer. But I don't trust either one. Doing some proper investigations yourself brings a lot too. In the end things will fall into place. The only frustrating thing is that the bureaucratic way these companies are coping with "us victims" is plain and simple unfair and they are rigging the system because they are the ones in power. Why? Because they have the cash that you simply don't have.

I'm looking forward to the settlement, but the damage is already done. Money helps, but in the end it doesn't solve the problem at all.

It wasn't clear that you were getting a settlement. I'm glad you are.
No, cash doesn't fix things, but it makes things much easier. Good luck

Well, i'm not yet sure how this will work out just yet. We're in the middle of negotiations and now - which is highly unusual - i'm interrupting my lawyer by addressing them directly threatening them that I will handover my complete file to the media if they don't come up with a suitable solution. It's been a whole year now without a solution and they even said that I plotted the whole event. But why the hell would I do that when there's so much at stake?
