tricep tendonitis

ad

I am not sure if I posted in the right place. I want to get straight to the point

I deal with tricep tendinitis more than a year. I tried almost everything. At the beginning I tried Rice therapy ultrasound, ibubrofen, creams and massage. it was not getting any better and i decided to go back and lift weights. This time the problem got worst and I immediately stop and rest for 6 months icing my elbow. Unfortunately, again it didnt heal properly and i went back to the gym. This shit lasted only 3 months and i stop again. After i went back to my country and made around 15 physiotherapy. A combination of tecar therapy, acupuncture, electrotherapy, massage, laser, and wavetherapy. The doctor said that my tricep tendon which connects to olecranon develop microtears. It is inflamed or degenerate in the chronic phases

Anyone deal with this njury before? I cant train and i am sick with training. Please quys post any similar experiences and share your thoughts

I have bro. I will be back to edit this when I have more free time to fill you in on my experience. Unfortunately it is very, very difficult to treat. I am currently pain free using light weights only, but I struggled for over 6 months with it.

Please share your experience with me.. so I can improve my recovery protocol.

I can only share what has worked for me. This is a very difficult condition to treat as I mentioned before.

First, I took 2 weeks off of putting any load on my triceps. I used NSAID's twice a day for those 14 days (naproxen 550mg). The next 4 weeks I saw a PT who did dry needling and electrical stimulation directly onto and around the olecranon process, as well as the rest of the distal triceps tendon. After the first two weeks of treatments I began ECCENTRIC ONLY training, 2 days per week, spread equally apart. I also used blood flow restriction during that training. Taking voodoo bands and wrapping the affected arm. 3 sets of 10-12, very light weight. After 2 weeks of this I began 3 days per week. After another 2 weeks I started adding in ONE CONCENTRIC set at the end of my eccentric sets. After another two weeks I increased the weight 5 lbs. Another 2 weeks I increased weight another 5-10 lbs. Then I shifted to 1 eccentric set to start and the rest concentric. Etc. Etc.

I no longer have pain during light isolating tricep work. No pain during bench or chest exercises. I have no progressed to heavier loads directly isolating the triceps. I'm still taking it slow and being cautious.
This injury fucking sucks.

Best of luck to you brother.

That's what I am doing now...eccentric exercises. Try collagen medication because is very important.in fact your tenton need collagen type 3 to heal. Thanks for editing your post

Gh0st's picture

Correct on collagen type III. There are no medications or treatments I'm aware of that increases this. None that have good research behind them anyways. Even using hgh... while research does show an increase in production of collagen types (mostly I and III) there is also evidence that the collagen is not laid down properly and leads to tendinopathy. The only thing I've read about that has good evidence of helping with type III collagen synthesis and formation is eccentric exercise.

Please post any research you've seen on Meds/treatment protocols i would be interested to read it!

I tried it...not helpful

I had an injury caused by skull crasher (i was performing a bad form of), after that training triceps became impossible, thought it was an epicondylitis, so i went from a physiotherapist friend of mine, and he discovered it was an epitrochleitis, after some months of kinesio's tape i was able to train heavy the triceps, but now i do skull crasher rarely and only at high reps. The pain isn't gone at all so i use to wrap my elbow, it seems to be a good choice.

Exact same thing happened to me, performing heavy ass skull crushers. My therapists can't seem to resolve the problem after 3 months. The only thing they're offering are steroidal shots once a week.
The pain is probably a 7-1/2 out of 10 so I try to be a big boy and wince through the pain haha.
So that kinesios tape helped? I'll have to look into that

miticco's picture

Yes bro, they did, give it a try (obviously only a qualified person can apply it in a correct way). I'm not saying i recovered 100%, but with a longer warm up and paying a little more attention i turned lift heavy on triceps, but not on the skull crusher this time lol. Like i said in the first reply wrapping the elbow helped me to feel less pain, sometimes none at all.

Youngshadow's picture

do you feel pain and weakness? I cant even bench 50 kilos without pain. I dont know what to do..seriously.

miticco's picture

Yes of course, I understand this, bench was a problem for me too. Lifting heavy on injury like this it's not a good idea, it's only going to get worse. In the worst phase i can't even rest the elbow on a table, touching it means pain. I'm not a doc nor a vet, the only advice i can give you is be sure of what the problem is. Just out of curiosity, where the pain is concentrated ?

Youngshadow's picture

training with pain is a waste of time.....without muscle connection there is no bulk. The pain is at the lower insertion of the tricep..to the olecranon.
