Tobacco and steroids?

ad

Being brand new, I have been reading up on this due to the fact I have been dipping for years. I know dipping can increase blood pressure and can reduce blood flow among other things. Does anyone know to what extent dipping or smoking will increase stress on the body while cycling. I apologize if this is somewhat of a dumb question, because as I'm typing it kind of sounds self explanatory... Anybody have experience/ input?

sounds like after reading these posts, Bill and Iron are making the decision to quit. my hats off to you brothers, it might just be one of the harder things in life you'll do, but hey remember we are bodybuilders and we like it hard. quit smoking after I returned from Iraq and got my head right again only to be tobacco free for 3yrs to start dipping. thinking it's about time to let that go as well, like Iron said it has no place in what we do.

Bill6191's picture

Hats off to you to my friend, I'm very hooked man, spending so much time in the desert, you ain't got much to do besides tobacco and lift and get shot at by terry... But I think it's time, I'm trying to take this body building to the next level, gotta pull out all the stops

I quit smoking a few months ago cause i love to run and i really couldn't anymore. i train more for endurance and aestetics than anything else and smoking didn't help with either. quitting is the hard choice and you'll keep negotiating with yourself and finding justification not to but once you get past that it can be done.

Minus's picture

I chew and smoke, I never had any issues. Shit sometimes i'll smoke while I'm lifting.

derpderp's picture

That's retarded...

Bill6191's picture

Ha I has to re-read that, could swore it said you shit sometimes when lifting...haha

Minus's picture

Nah bro, that's when I lift too heavy lmao.

Quitting smoking was one thing. But quitting dip. Oh boy. I did both. At the same time! Started when I was 15. Quit when I was 21. Within weeks I HATED the smell and taste of cigs. But to this very day almost 4 years later.... I still crave a dip every damn day. Nicotene gum worked for me. 2 4mg pieces, chew it up and put it in your lip like a dip. Then work your way down the nicotene levels. Then do the same thing with regular gum. Something with some bite, like cinnamon or wintergreen flavor. It's 99% mental bro. Nicotene withdrawals only actually last like 3 days then its done. The rest is habit and obsession.

BEST OF LUCK

irongame427's picture

Damn bro that's discouraging. You still crave it 4 years later. Damn this is gonna suck when I quit.

Bill6191's picture

Appreciate it man, it's gunna be rough.. Smoke for like 6 years, and been dipping for like 4... Told my wife I'm going cold turkey, all she said was "oh fuck"

birdbear27's picture

Hahaha she's got the right idea. Cold Turkey is the ultimate for staying off. But you're gonna be such a DICK. LMAO
It's a rough time.

Bill6191's picture

Haha I'm already a dick so nothing new lol

Dickkhead's picture

I'm an ex smoker. You intend to stop it? Or, you just want us to tell u go right ahead, it's fine? "I made great gains on 3 packs a day." "It's OK to workout while you are smoking - way to relax between heavy sets." "I like to keep a lit cigarette in my mouth in the squat rack - improves focus." C'mon bro . . . :(

Bill6191's picture

Hey everyone on here thus far has gave me great advice, and the consensus so far is quitting is the way to go, so I'm gunna give it a shot. And he'll even if quitting dipping doesn't really give me much of an up in the gym, at least I'm reducing risks of other stuff in the future

Dickkhead's picture

Thumbs up from me. You can do it bro!

Bill6191's picture

Shit, I'm gunna give my best shot, thanks brother

RickRock1086's picture

Dipping grows hair on your chest. That's all I care Blum 3

cdyrdes's picture

Good one!

Bill6191's picture

Shit, no wonder i have to shave it so often

Bill6191's picture

Damn you guys and your good advice

Tobacco/nicotine constrict blood flow therefor not allowing oxygen to flow as it should in the blood stream. It definitely can hinder gains brother I know 1st hand. My 1st cycle I ever ran I was a smoker and the results were mediocre to say the least. So I decided to quit and after that it was a different ballgame

irongame427's picture

Hmmm, I'm gonna have to disagree here. I smoked during my first cycle and gained 30lbs on 500mgs of test a week for 12 weeks. Smoking def bad but it's not the reason you didn't make gains. If you don't believe me check out markus ruhl or Dennis wolf, both smokers.. Wolf just won the arnold classic and was 3rd in the olympia. Forget about it hindering gains, it gives hit cancer! That's what I worry about.

How did you quit btw? Cold turkey, patch, chantix? I'm gonna do chantix in about 3 weeks I need to finally quit.

vhman's picture

Gains being hindered is debatable. Cancer for sure, but raised blood pressure and heart disease will usually kill you sooner or contribute to it much quicker. Never want to mix raised BP and gear.
Very best of luck on quitting.

irongame427's picture

Ya man forget the gains lol, it's the health aspect that I hate. I keep a very close eye on my blood pressure tho and I've never seen it above 123/80. But Smoking is stil very bad for the heart. I gotta quit for good this time.

vhman's picture

Long term it's almost certain death in one form or another.
I was addicted to chew for many years when I was younger. They didn't have all the "helps" that they do today. I just had to do it cold turkey. I still think that's probably the beat way, but it's all I can speak to.

cdyrdes's picture

Thats what I mean by it hindered my gains....bp was high and not enough energy to put into training and lack of breathing ....from my personal experience

Bill6191's picture

Interesting, I just don't know what it is, but lately in the evening, I'll throw a pinch in, and I get all shaky and feels like my heart is racing... Kinda freaky. But it's only after I hit the gym. No clue

cdyrdes's picture

Cold turkey my man, smoked for 10years. It was rough at 1st but you get over it the only time I still crave a smoke is right after my last meal of the day.

irongame427's picture

Drinking coffee will nebvet be the same when I quit. I've smoked for about 8 years now. It's time to stop. I can't be a fitness freak go to the gym religiously, not drink no drugs and eat healthy then smoke cigs. It totally contradicts everything I do in life.

cdyrdes's picture

Fr sent bro

irongame427's picture

Accepted

cdyrdes's picture

Lol....the struggle is real brotha!......fyi coffee taste much better when your tastbuds aren't glazed with tar trust me

Bill6191's picture

I prefer a Starbucks chai tea haha

Bill6191's picture

Yea, I've always wondered what my gains would be like if I wasn't dipping, I really didn't know if I was holding myself back, I'm like a can a day kind of guy... So I'll try and give it a shot, see what I can accomplish

cdyrdes's picture

Yeah I used to burn a pack a day and just decided to quit. It was rough the 1st couple days not gonna lie bro but then I figured out how to use that aggro feeling from no nicotine to smash the plates around and haven't looked back. I always suggest the cold turkey approach because the steps of fighting threw an addiction make it much more rewarding when you complete the task of quitting.

Bill6191's picture

Yea, once I fully wrap my head around it, I will no doubt go cold turkey. Plus all the quitting aids all have nicotine, would kinda defeat the purpose in in my opinion

cdyrdes's picture

Exactly!

allday222's picture

No question is dumb brother. I smoked when I was younger and I know first hand it raises blood pressure substantially so IMO I would stay away because it's not worth the risk. When I started working out ten years ago and started doing cardio I couldn't breath for ship and that was enough of a reason for me to stop. Hope you can do the same brother even if it's just dipping. Ain't nobody got time for some yellow teeth lol

Bill6191's picture

Yea i hear ya on the breathing, I could breathe for shit either when I smoked... But I guess this gives me a solid reason to cut the dip out... I know my gums with thank me
